I know I have a pretty busy October on tap so I'd be OK with switching with anyone other than July. If not I'll just work on getting it done earlier and have it in the wings.

Thanks !

yes its the 9 minute version of Suzie Q.  This Evil Woman is different from Crow's which is different from ELO's.

That is a psychedelic (reverbed to death I'm guessing) banjo on Stop! Stop! Stop!.  This song got me to look at banjo's in a whole different way.

Alabama Song is also one of my favorite Doors tracks as well as Soul Kitchen in lesser played Doors stuff.  I started to write a reply yesterday and went to look up the actual lyrics and wherever it was I went got the fake virus alert and had to close my browser down entirely.  Pissed me off and knocked the wind out of a lot of sails with a dozen or so open tabs.  Grrr.

I have 5 or 6 Nektar albums that I just have to get to and 2 of them are double albums.  So patience, you can have first crack at them.

Each album or two sides takes 3 to 4 hours to rip which includes cleaning and then playing each side a minimum of 3 times.  Then comes the repair process.

The VPI RecordCleaningMachine is awesome and reveals what you hear, but it does not remove scratches.  It cleans them so well that the hours it takes to get out the scratches are worthwhile.  I remove the scratches from the rips by hand using a pencil tool in wave editing by actually redrawing the wave "line".  It leaves behind what you hear.  I have programs which can do a lot to remove lightweight scratches with a couple of mouse clicks, but they don't get the big ones and they alter the sound too much.  I don't remember exactly, but I prolly have about 8 to 10 man hours just in Suzie Q of just sitting and drawing out the scratches and crackle.  It's just plain grunt work, but it is so worth it.  I wish that I had google glasses so that I could record the process in real time just to make a tutorial for the process.  The results are incredibly amazing, but watching it done would be extremely boring and hearing it is even worse.  The wife hears the process and has yet to kill me or burn dinner on purpose, but I can tell when its time to do something else.

Sird's comment on S Q got me to spend all day yesterday and most of this morning finishing up side two of that album.  This is the 1st Fantasy deep groove heavy vinyl pressing.  The person that I was working with on that album purchase heard the rip of it and said it was one of the most amazing versions / pressings he has heard of it but that it had too many scratches to replace his copy.  But it sure sounds really nice all cleaned up.  It would be safe to say that I have 40 to 50 man hours alone in this album so far.

I never thought of CCR's first album as psychedelic, it was just CCR to me.  But having gotten really familiar with it the past month or so, it sure as hell is.  Side 2 has the song Porterville.  I had totally forgotten about it for the past 50 years, but when I played it and heard it again, I recognized it as one of those long lost, loved tunes from my 'formative years'.  Very trippy and haunting. They wrote many songs about little California towns no one ever heard about.

So I will finish up side 1 and put up both sides tomorrow to grab and hear at y'all's leisure.  It really is a great, great album and this is a great pressing of it.  I'll also put up the side with the most scratches on it just for S&G's in case anyone is curious.  I'll also put up the tracks from the mixtape in case anyone wants the individual tracks.

If it's the 9-minute version, Bill used to play it. Been a while since I heard it, but this says it got played recently. Maybe it was the edited version but I don't think so.

 If I didn't know any better I would think you were an old DJ circa 69 or 70. I was only a wee lad then, but this totally had the feel of the late AM/early FM daze. I could picture it blasting out of someone's Pontiac GTO on the way to the beach.
it was good to hear another song by Love other than Alone Again. I don't know much about them other than that.
Anything Joe Walsh perks me up
Had no idea Evil Woman was a cover and the original was by Spooky, or do I have that backwards
Sometimes I think they should have renamed Fleetwood Mac, the 2 bands have nothing in common musically. Nice to hear some of the Peter Green stuff.
I've heard Jimi's Little Wing so much I totally forgot about the Clapton version.
I picked up the same Association LP at a garage sale last summer so I've been grooving on them of late, so many good songs they had.
Tull is an old favorite, and hey I'm sure there is a girl out there somewhere named "inside"
I might have to get a line on that record cleaner you have. I've been using the spin thing on old stuff I buy. Your rips are spotless, amazing! Glad you are sharing your collection with us. And again if you find any Nektar you want to part with hook me up. Great mix DJ Kurtster {#Devil_pimp}

Never heard Suzie Q like that before, about 4 minutes in thought I was trippin' {#Eek}

Been going through a Zepp phase lately so this hits the spot! Great to hear Bonzo so clear too, no one has the pitch like Bonzo!{#Drummer}

Just saw a documentary on Santana didn't even know the Peter Greene connection; to be honest I don't really know a lot obout Classic Rock other than what I heard growing up and what I learn in documentaries; you are my point man for this kind of music!

My favorite phase of Fleetwood Mac, this period similar to the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon/Wish You Were Here phase is personified with more than 1 album.  Great to hear this one so clear.

CSN harmonies and Kurtster productions; a match made in heaven.  The sound is as clear and pronounced as Crosby's ego.{#Tongue}

Man, I don't think I have heard this one since the 70s; had totally forgotten it.  Good stuff, not as good as version overall as Hendrix but I daresay the guitar playing is a bit better....blasphemy!

The incomparable Moonie!{#Drummer}

Insuffrably inescapable Mccartney hooks....can't......resist.  Never gets old.

One of my favorite Doors songs, I just love the raw honesty of Morrison and this is probably the rawest and honest of them all.  I highly recommend the Moon of Alabama too BTW.

Stop Stop Stop!  Ok, this is my favorite song so far. Totally forgot this one and I am probably getting into it more than I should.  Feeling that guitar thingie whatever it is. The Hollies are one of those bands where there is far more there than there is.

TULL!!

OMG! I have the version of this song off of the Allison Krause/Robert Plant collaboration (of which if you haven't heard you need to)! Had no idea this was a remake, so cool!  Actually duh, you know that it was on my Gypsy mix. lol
Superb sound quality as always!  May you always have medical grade!{#Cowboy}

So here we go ...
RPMCC 15 COVER CROPPED
RPMCC 15 PLAYLIST CROPPED

100% Vinyl  M = Mono

So this is the story.  For years I've wanted to do a mix with songs that are the names of girls or about girls.  There are so many.  But I just never got around to doing it.  The past several months I went through a bunch of albums that someone was interested in buying so I had to focus my ripping on the albums on the list, cuz once they are gone, alls I have is the rips.  So that kinda limited my list, but I found a work around and the title song, My Little Red Book by Love gave me the beginning and the excuse to go where I did and tell a little story and Fortune Teller by the Stones gave me the ending. Tull was the reflection / regroup transition.   These are basically all some favorite songs from my early teens that I grew up with on AM radio and bought the albums along the way.  Turning Japanese is an exception and also a retread from an earlier mix.  It just seemed to fit and was a transition towards the ending and what can happen to you on the way through the kinda journey this music takes you on.

But we start with the breakup and the plan to work our way through the list in the Little Red Book.  First the wonton rambling and pandering which goes to a more deliberate stage and then the hand on the shoulder you feel before you bounce off the sidewalk and end up in the can for taking things a tad too far.  Then the happy ending.  This version of Fortune Teller is the one I heard first and immediately just fell in love with the story and the totally different sound and beat as opposed to what else was going on at the time, April 1966. I was 13, the end of my freshman year of HS headed to the beach in the OC for the summer which was a short walk from the house.  They all have a meaning and somehow assembled itself unconsciously because I just know these songs inside out or so I thought.  Alabama Song by the Doors is a misheard lyric song which I finally figured out while cleaning things up taking out clicks and stuff and putting this together.  I always wondered what the title had to do with song. At the beginning of the chorus break I always thought it was "oh moon or move or something above the bar"  It never made any sense and I never really looked for the printed lyrics.  Never a really popular song off an album with so many other more important stuff on it.  I finally discovered that the words are actually "oh moon of Alabama".  Took me 51 years to figure this out.  Suzie Q was another love at first listen and on prolly the 3rd album I ever bought.  It also was the song that sent me into looking for the long versions of songs and leaving 45's behind because I thought I was getting ripped off.  It is in fake stereo which I went and made a flipped copy of the original stereo rip and combined the two opposite images into one true 2 channel mono version.  Did the same with Lady Madonna and Fortune Teller which was mono to begin with and just made it sound more balanced.

The Two Fleetwood Mac songs were really from two different Fleetwood Mac bands, and did segue thematically by pure luck.  The Zep was kinda necessary and too hard to pick, but WTF, why not.  Evil Woman is just one of those songs, a real long song that said hello by one of my favorite bands Spooky Tooth which was one of the children of Procol Harum.  College dorm / apartment nights.  There is a ton of songs about Mary's and I have a lot of them because or not my first wife's name was Mary.  I left a bunch behind and picked these two.  Along Comes Mary fit the theme and is actually a pretty edgy song by a band not know for being edgy.  Stop! Stop! Stop! is the same type of song by another band not know for being edgy.  I Saw Her Again Last Night is also a trippy edgy song with the doot doot doot stuff going on in a really intense way.  Strangely it had the highest fidelity in bandwidth of all the tracks which basically had nothing going on above 9 khz.  This song had a signal that still hit 23 khz from vinyl after the tape hiss was gone.  The Beatles have hit 19 khz a lot of stuff but this one goes beyond. CD's don't go above 20 KHZ.  A song recorded with a 10 khz AM signal in mind.  Lady Madonna was pretty simple maxing out around 8 khz ending this trip into the weeds.  Lady Madonna was also going to be the opening track or the original mix that never got made.

I guess the other songs speak for themselves.  I spared everyone Layla and did Little Wing instead.

Hope y'all liked it.  It's what I'm going to be doing from now on until I drop dead.  Its a treat to get to share some of this.  I've got a lot to work with that I haven't yet gotten to.

Here is a peak at the scene of the crime and just a part of what I'm working through.  There are more records in two other rooms.

I love my wife.

The box on the table in the middle of the pile is my record cleaning machine which makes it all possible at this level.  The shelves in the back along the wall are what's left of my Peach's Records crates turned sideways and nailed together.

Pardon the long ramble but this is my story and I'm sticking to it.  {#Good-vibes}
obtw, the Stones in Mono box is all Steely D's fault.  He had to go and show it in the what are you listening to now thread.
those are the two Petty boxes behind it.
