Odd.

My bio 1/2 sister had a adoption researcher looking for bio family. Our birth mother was located and contacted by the researcher. Bio mom told the researcher to give her a minute to think as that was a very unexpected phone call.

Bio mom called her back on Tuesday and said she has a family now and they do not know about us. In light of that she does not wish to meet us nor does she want any contact from either us. She was floored that we found each other.

She did want the researcher to pass along to us that breast cancer runs in the family. Her mother and sister died of it and she herself had a double mastectomy several years ago. She had no info on the bio fathers as she did not know who they were.

I never really looked for her because I was afraid that she would either have a family she had not told or that maybe she had been raped and I was the product of that. It was really odd when as a teen I realized that had abortion been legal in the early 60's I would most likely have been aborted.

Anyway, my sister asked if I was good with meeting her. So we're going to try to meet up over the summer. We've talked on the phone and via text a couple of times a week since we discovered one another. We seemed to hit it off right away.

I feel odd knowing that I was right about bio mom. I feel a little rejected again in an odd way. As a teen and young adult my stance had been " she didn't want me so I don't want her".

So I have a sister now.

So you didn't know about her until now? That's kinda cool. What haresfur said; the woman who gave you up isn't making any kind of judgment about you. The fact that she shared the most important medical news right away tells me she cares about you, but she did some quick back-of-the-envelope math and (knowing the people in her family) has made the calculation that it won't be right to share at this time. Maybe she's hiding something about herself from them, that's her right. But maybe she's protecting them. I can think of several people who would be too fragile to absorb that kind of news about their mother. It's all very interesting but don't feel rejected... that's the last thing that's going on.

It's hard to understand other people's baggage. But she's not rejecting you - she doesn't know you. Still kinda shitty, though. {#Hug}

Bummer, that. But a sister! I hope you can take comfort in each other!

Also, I'd like to imagine that bio mom gave you information that might save your life. Maybe that's the best she can do. But it's something.
