That ending happens way too often.  Someone is passed over for the job, but is charged with training the person who gets it.  Or  the person who is passed over takes it upon himself/herself voluntarily because he or she actually takes pride in his or her work and wants to do what is right even after, sometimes, being treated rather shabbily.

As previously stated, I am not one of the popular kids... and I do mean KIDS.... the others are in their 30s, and one of them is personal friends with the boss.  He was given a job without ever having to interview or be screened, by virtue of their personal relationship.  He's the one she wants for the job, even though he has a total 0 in the experience department, and spends his days playing with his phone.
Given the fact that he applied for the position, I never actually stood a chance. I just thought I'd give it a try....
Thanks for all of the support, just the same!

Sorry to hear this. Dang, what a terrible company. It would be great if you could get out of there, but the job market is tough for us non-Millenials.

A  few years ago, I was informed by the president of a company I interviewed with that I would be a "great fit" for the job I interviewed for but that they decided to go with someone younger. Ugh.

Clearly, blatantly, it does not.  It's all about who you are, and who you know outside of work.

Thanks, everyone.... I think it went okay.  It was a panel interview, with my boss, my department supervisor, and one person from another office to provide some balance, I guess.  They didn't ask me anything about my years of experience in management and training personnel—how much sense does that make?  My guess is that I was the only applicant with experience.....so I worked that information into my answers to the set of questions that they asked all interviewees.

No decision until next week.

Were they doing contextual interviewing?  In other words, were they asking you questions like "Tell me about a time you had to resolve a conflict between two employees and you thought it ended particularly well?"  That's what we do here with interviews, and folks are generally kind of freaked out that we never ask specifically about their positions in the past or anything like that.

In any event, i'm sure you did great.  Good luck!

16 years in medical billing, 5 of those years at my current job in ambulance billing.
Back home, I was operations manager and trainer in a medical billing office. I had 19 direct reports, and trained all incoming new employees in all aspects of medical billing, from charge entry to payment posting to accounts receivable to collections.

I would say that I am very well qualified to be considered for the position I am interviewing for tomorrow at work: training coordinator.
The only complication is that I am up against the popular kids, in an office that has historically been ALL ABOUT favoritism.  Oklahoma's status quo.

This job could mean a big change for me, in terms of job satisfaction and overall attitude.  I kind of hate my current job, mainly because of burn out, partially because I am not one of the popular kids, and have been put under the microscope because of that, despite my being the person in the office with the best attendance, strongest work ethic, and most responsibility.

The new job would only mean a modest raise of .89c an hour, but that's WAY more than I am likely to get from my annual review.

SO.... toss me some good juju tomorrow morning, Oklahoma time, if you don't mind.

 Good luck - hope you get this! {#Good-vibes}
