An amazing score (Gabriel) to an amazing movie (Scorsese) with an amazing screenplay (Schrader) an amazing actor (Dafoe) adapted by the most amazing book by the most amazing writer (Nikos Kazantzakis). At the time of the premiere, the streets were filled with Christian protesters around the theatres. The "Passion" was real!

I'm sorry. That segue out of BRMC was so perfect I didn't even know we were in the next song.

I first heard this years ago when BBC Radio-3 aired "Late Junction" hosted by Verity Sharpe. It opened my ears to the endless possibilities available in music.🐨
I think like The Catherine Wheel for David Byrne, this may well be Gabriel's Opus work. And I do not say that lightly whatsoever!
Too cheesy to rate this song as "Godlike" given the movie?
Awe inspiring.
Reminds me of "Black-hawk Down" a great film.
Superb tune. Great atmospheric haze in the sonic back drop. Don't need Gabriel's voice when the music is this good.

Please check also for Jamshied Sharifi "A Prayer For The Soul Of Layla" from 1997- amazing
Brilliant. Peter Gabriel and Christ. A most excellent combination.
One of the best Peter Gabriel albums. Confirms his genius.
One of the greatest works of ambient music...and from such an amazing Scorsese film as well
Actually listened to this entire soundtrack straight through over the weekend - Phenomenal!
This album, with nearly no vocals, is brilliant.

When I left to go for a ride Mich Gerber was playing and as I walked back in the door, it initially sounded like the same track was still playing.

One of Gabriel's Opus works for sure, not unlike Byrne's "The Catherine Wheel" soundtrack.

I've spent the last few days loading my Kindle with works by authors like Mundy--H. Did you ever watch "King Solomon's Mines" with Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone? I got through 10 minutes and had to stop--amazingly bad.
Clearly some studio (Oh, Cannon...shock) was trying to jump on the Indiana Jones bandwagon--heck they even got Jon Rhys-Davies to show up for it in between Indiana Jones movies. James Earl Jones (as Umslopogaas!) was in for the "Quatermain" sequel but they couldn't swing it even with Haggard's story.
And yes, this album transcends "Last Temptation of Christ." One of my all-time favorites.

Great to hear today, the day we learn that Peter Gabriel will be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Absolute bliss

Marzz,
Some time back I sent a message to Cynaera after reading one of her many comments here on RP and I found that we shared a love of many of the same artists. From her profile I found we were born on the same date in 1956. I felt a special connection with her, even though I'd never seen a picture of her or heard her voice. I was saddened when I read about her passing several months ago. Rest in peace, Cynaera.

Aaarrgh! How come I never hear this song when I'm putting the moves on my lady or when I'm oiling my pecs before a round of bloodsport? Yet again Gabriel's sultry rhythms work their magic as I sit surrounded by old wincing men in the eurlogist's waiting room.

Always part of my "mixed tapes", this one. Exquisite blend of styles and rythms, excellent driving song. Shame the soundtrack was not nominated to an Academy Award. Not that Gabriel would care about that. WOMAD at its best.
Would be great if Bill would follow it up with Dead can Dance's "Rakim."
This is primal and gets me right in the guts. I'm seeing a roaring fire on the plains and animal-skinned painted people dancing around it whilst I sit in the ring with the other elders smoking some serious herbs. This is pagan. 8 from the atavistic Nottingham jury.
