There's nothing I can do
Nothing I can say
You'll do what you want to
You'll go your own sweet way
You'll go your own sweet
Your own sweet way
You'll go your own sweet
Your own sweet way

Now I can talk to you serious
I can talk to you nice
But when it comes to love
You won't take good advice
You'll go your own sweet
Your own sweet way
You'll go your own sweet
Your own sweet way

It doesn't matter what I say
What I do or what I think
You can lead a horse to water
You can't make him drink
You'll go your own sweet
Your own sweet way
You'll go your own sweet
Your own sweet way

Don't think he did very well for himself - I've heard he was in dire straits
Whenever and with whomever I can hear Mark Knopfler's wonderful voice and fantastic guitar playing, I feel so happy.
Yacht rock at best.
I remember returning this cd to the record store because it wasn't Dire Straits.
Definitely my loss...
Oh feckless youth....
Initial listen is a solid 9, great swing to this one.
Great album. Sweet side project, TNH.

Just used the Google machine: Paul Franklin on steel.

ah, the memories.   Mother bring me my air guitar.
Lovely song.

Oh Paul Franklin, caught it the notes!  Answered my own question!

Smoooooth...
Mark playing the guitar his own sweet way. Tasty!
MK's spin off project delivered a masterpiece album that still stands the test of the time, IMHO. Thanks Bill for making me discover this gem <3
Smoooooth…

The Beatles, yes.  Sarah McLachlin and Lana Del Rey - not even close. Artists on RP sorted by monthly plays as shown on Dec. 6, 2021:

Took your advice to move to the couch between the JBLs and enjoy this cut on the FLAC stream....so smooth and great production.
Very first CD I bought when they started coming out. Still have it, still consider it one of my favorites.
That is some sweet steel!

Went the en-suite way during some recent renovations. Haven't looked back!
Brilliant! Knopfler is a genius, rivaled only by Richard Thompson.
Just tossed a few coins in Bill and Rebecca's busking hat. This is just too good to not support.

LLRP!!
From Wiki:

"They gave their first performance at a small club in Leeds, and followed up with a tour".

I wish I were there for that first performance.
Seems to be borrowing from Mason Ruffner.
This is a real guitar players album . . . Its all in the hands, and if you're listening to this album you're in very good hands.
Pedal steel!

I realize Mark isn't for everyone, but in my view, he can do no wrong!
lazy sleepy but nice
Bless you for playing this...haven't heard it in forever and it's just the right tonic for me today. Bliss!

I came across this album by accident.  What a gem.  The guitar work is so amazing.
Never heard of this band.  I like them.  Very smooth.
Smooth as silk for my ears. One of my favs of all times!
This is now 28 years old?  Geeze.  Still love the smooth groove, MK.
Never heard of this group, though I've heard this song countless times! I just assumed it was Dire Straits!

How about something from Muswell Hillbillies by The Kinks?
One of my faves.

Really liked this song.... assumed it was Mark Knoffler solo that I had not heard before.  However when I sampled the rest of the album just now,  I couldn't find anything else I liked.  Maybe this was the only song that of the album that was heavily influenced by Mark??

Yeah, agreed, it's the only track that he sings lead on, and wrote himself, so makes sense...but also makes it the best track imo
A few pearls into this album... this track is the best one IMHO. So unique!
Still a big 9 for me.
Bubba, Sneezy, Fourfinger, Dozey, Flabass and Whistler Notting play just for you.
Sweet indeed{#Bounce}

I'm digging the beat.....cool...
This tune wraps itself around me, smooth as silk.
might've been intended as a breakup song. But listening as a parent, I think it works on that level too.
Gets a 10 for Knopfler's guitar alone...the song as a whole is pretty damn amazing as well. {#Music}

Someone should nudge the Goldsmiths to consider adding their work. Did not know that Leo Kottke and Chet performed together on "Prairie Home Companion":

Will never forget this very moment when I heard for the first time this song. I was into my uncle's new car, riding south-eastern France, we were listening to the radio, I was 16. "Sounds a little boring... but, listen... sounds like Dire Straits, no? The guitar, I mean...". They said the name of the band, I was unable to write it well... then a few days later, went to a CD shop... they oriented me and finally found the album. 2 or 3 great tune into it.
Can't tell you why but I make an mental association between Mark Knopfler and Joe Montana.   :)

Fits my definition of a "CLASSIC"...

CLASSIC: Good the first hearing, gets better with return visits. Always a welcome visitor over the years and decades...

Never has been overplayed to reach burnout... Whole album is nice and welcome in the mix...

Thank You

Love it.
Sounds like he wrote it in 3 minutes. Which is how long it takes to get really bored of this song.

This - and a lot of the Notting Hillbillies CD - is genius.  You'd probably better off going back to top-40 radio.

Umm, if you click the link for the band you will see that no one uploaded "Feel like Going Home."  If you want to hear that track, I'd suggest you upload it.  If Bill and Rebecca give it the green light, it will hit the LRC.  If the LRC review people like it, than it will be played here.

As I understand it, there are a few things that come in directly to RP from the labels or artists, but by and large everything you hear was a listener upload.

Over the years, Mark Knopfler has stood the test of time, and like the proverbial good wine gotten better with age (although this song is 1990).  After tons of Dead shows and fierce loyalty to Neil Young, Knopfler is my favorite of all time.  He is never stuck, although that is so true of Neil too.
Love it, or not love it—it just doesn't get much smoother than this.  This is great stuff by almost any standard.

You'd totally agree if you had been there too, it was a disgrace!!

You base your opinion on one bad show instead of countless rave reviews and millions of sold recordings? The best concert I've ever seen and the worst concert I've ever seen have been with Peter Gabriel. Different nights, different stuff happens. Live shows are risky for artists, you shouldn't base opinions on the body of their work based on a bad night. I saw Dire Straits live and thought it was a pretty good show. Maybe the band was hung over the night you saw them and he was trying to compensate for slow drummers and off key bass? Just a thought.
