This is a nice tune and I think it's the perfect background to praise RP for the astonishing audio quality.  This one is particularly well produced and it would lose so much if this was a crappy stream. RP really rocks on audio quality and I really appreciate that. Thank you!

Though he is perhaps the best-known practitioner of it, Mark Knopfler did not invent the "clean-guitar-with-reverb sound", nor was he the first to play those "jabbing", staccato licks.  He has obviously influenced many other guitarists but the electric guitar was invented in the early 1930s; there have been a lot of players since then.  Anyhow, this guy's voice sounds very little like Knopfler's to me.

Jeff Talmadge is a new name to me and Wikipedia was no help but I eventually found a Biography on him... ex-Texas lawyer turned itinerant singer songwriter.

As others have commented about his guitar style I will just say that his singing voice is more 'listenable' to my ears because he is actually singing in his own native accent as opposed to the pseudo-American accent adopted by Mark Knopfler.

Well now, this is exactly what my wife and I like to do, tune in to RP, volume up and drive and whenever we'd PSD we just talk until the next track comes on that we want to crank up - sometimes we get a lot of talking in, sometimes it's mostly rocking out. 

This song does have a slightly dark feel to it (Cohen-ish) and I like it enough to give a 7 rating to it.

For me; this is about how we all wish to change our situation. Add, subtract or simply move someplace new... or just go for a ride. Highway therapy is well regarded as a way to blow out the cobwebs and much less expensive than Retail Therapy.


Real roads and not the endless concrete parking lots are where real people live, real stores sell things and people have time for mindless conversation. Concrete Highways are simply ways to get there quickly. Franchise stores, bored locals who know they'll never see you again...Nobody really cares about anything. Just make a buck and return to the real world...

David Knopfler did a thing called "Lips Against the Steel," and the standout song, to me, was "Whispers of Gethsemane."  Find it. Buy it. Share it here, because it was only released for a short time and then recalled - so whoever has a copy of it is sitting on platinum.

Knopfleresque or not, and the mono thing is not bad, it is part of the atmosphere guys... >.> Even if it was accidental, I like it.
As if was the very first time that somebody use it, plus I don't find the mono effect in this song annoying while there is many others (Beatles) that personally stress my ear with the sharp and treble guitar on a side and the mid tone voice at the other one, not even brass!... anyway, my point is that I like the mono effect.

It's been mentioned a bunch of times but this particular upload is bad.  In fact it sounds like it's been run through some kind of "karaoke filter" to suppress the vocal.  The production on the CD sounds nothing like this and has the vocal up front in center where it belongs.  Considering how much Bill prides himself on excellent audio (and how much this is getting played here) I can't believe it has not been replaced with a proper recording.  Uploading now...
