Sometimes I'm wishing that the next town was closer
Sometimes I'm wishing it was farther away
I've got some wishes that I will never tell you
But you'll find out someday

Can't you hear the leaves blowing up and down the walk?
Don't you want to take a long drive with your lover where you can talk?
You can talk about the things you want to see
Take a drive with me

Outside it's getting colder
Inside it's been a little colder too
Sometimes I'm wishing that you would act just a little bolder
Maybe then I'd be a little bolder too

Can't you hear the leaves blowing up and down the walk?
Don't you want to take a long drive with your lover where you can talk?
You can talk about the things you want to see
Take a drive with me

Sometimes I'm wishing that the next town was closer
Sometimes I'm wishing it was farther away
If I had two wishes, then one would be to kiss you
And the other one is something I can't say

Can't you hear the leaves blowing up and down the walk?
Don't you want to take a long drive with your lover where you can talk?
You can talk about the things you want to see
Take a drive with me

This is a nice tune and I think it's the perfect background to praise RP for the astonishing audio quality.  This one is particularly well produced and it would lose so much if this was a crappy stream. RP really rocks on audio quality and I really appreciate that. Thank you!
a lawyer who yearns for a career in music at least knows how to litigate the ass off anyone who tries to steal his music, and a good song this is too
This song will forever haunt me 🥹
A lot of Chris Smither influence in this track. Very cool.

And right now I read your comment quoting the lyrics at the exact moment I hear Talmadge sing these words

That certainly struck me. There's a movie script begging to be written, or at least a short essay.
I read his bio and I was like, Wait, what? Huh?
Not even close   no drive wit u, no wish wit u, NO Jeff!   & no means NO!
Good Tune! I never heard of him before.  Thanx RP!
i dont know which one of theses 3 reasons is the most important driver to pass from 7 to a solid 8 ...
the song is pretty agreable to listenthis guy that left a Lawyer job to be a poet and a singeri never found a wikipedia page as well written and showing how much he cares ...

Definitely! More like Cohen than Knopfler, I think. And that's an entirely good thing.

yes i can hear him too

People stealing voices now?

Leonard Cohen ~ esq. exquisite to the max 10/10.

Just as boring so it doesn't matter

Now I want to know what his second wish was!
(I think it may have been something dirty...)
non avevo ascolta prima questo canzone / artista ...mi piace
If anyone other than the actual performer this sounds like "I Am the Ride" by Chris Smither.
What are you talking about Mark Knopfler? The voice is singular and even the guitar might remember Knopfler but ist different.

He wants to be a stone? Oh, sorry, I thought he sung that he'd be "a little bouldet" :o)
So Knoofler!!!
Oh yeah, very nice.

Though he is perhaps the best-known practitioner of it, Mark Knopfler did not invent the "clean-guitar-with-reverb sound", nor was he the first to play those "jabbing", staccato licks.  He has obviously influenced many other guitarists but the electric guitar was invented in the early 1930s; there have been a lot of players since then.  Anyhow, this guy's voice sounds very little like Knopfler's to me.

Jeff Talmadge is a new name to me and Wikipedia was no help but I eventually found a Biography on him... ex-Texas lawyer turned itinerant singer songwriter.

As others have commented about his guitar style I will just say that his singing voice is more 'listenable' to my ears because he is actually singing in his own native accent as opposed to the pseudo-American accent adopted by Mark Knopfler.

I hear that too. The guitar is very Knopfler-esque.

Well now, this is exactly what my wife and I like to do, tune in to RP, volume up and drive and whenever we'd PSD we just talk until the next track comes on that we want to crank up - sometimes we get a lot of talking in, sometimes it's mostly rocking out.

This song does have a slightly dark feel to it (Cohen-ish) and I like it enough to give a 7 rating to it.

Road Trip!
Beautiful...
Great sound...

Solid.
Leonard Cohen meets Chris Rea/Issak and not as good as either.
Nice Production
not bad, but it won't be my favorite version of the song.
Hearing shades of Chris Rea and "Road to Hell."  Not a bad thing, but there's a sameness about this song to about a dozen other songs.
 Agreed

For me; this is about how we all wish to change our situation. Add, subtract or simply move someplace new... or just go for a ride. Highway therapy is well regarded as a way to blow out the cobwebs and much less expensive than Retail Therapy.

Real roads and not the endless concrete parking lots are where real people live, real stores sell things and people have time for mindless conversation. Concrete Highways are simply ways to get there quickly. Franchise stores, bored locals who know they'll never see you again...Nobody really cares about anything. Just make a buck and return to the real world...

To my European ear, it is reminiscent of early Leonard Cohen.
Note to self. If I am hitch hiking and I climb into a car and the driver is playing this song, jump out of the car, fast.
Nice :)
Heh,
This song I admit hits me hard.
Brings back a lot of memories, connects with   the now,
and reminds me I used to be a driver.
Allows to look forward through the wind shield. The future comin at us.....
Like driving through the night in a fluffy flake snow storm.
Ka mone mon, take a drive wit me.
I'll bring jah back, an you safe 'n' sound...haha.. thanks RP !!!

Not creepy so much for me, as wistful longing for...something.
I absolutely love the cover art. Probably a bit more than the song, though I do like the creepiness of it. They both play together well.

Okay, I'm getting the creep factor here. It's still a good song - perfect for a stormy night, a power failure, and some creaky boards, all after having watched a Stephen King movie...

Nu2Me... I like. Good thinking-man lyrics, good guitar, well done... Now another album to buy...
I could stand to hear another song or two by this guy.  Sounds great....
I agree that his guitar sounds a lot like Knopfler.  Good song.  Moody.
I would gladly take the invitation ... {#Devil_pimp}
kind of a mix of Howe Gelb and Mark Knopfler . . .good things.
jesus - I am drunk...
David Knopfler did a thing called "Lips Against the Steel," and the standout song, to me, was "Whispers of Gethsemane."  Find it. Buy it. Share it here, because it was only released for a short time and then recalled - so whoever has a copy of it is sitting on platinum.

"The mono effect" was an encoding glitch which was fixed in July.  So unless you heard this before then the "effect" is on your end...

Knopfleresque or not, and the mono thing is not bad, it is part of the atmosphere guys... >.> Even if it was accidental, I like it.
As if was the very first time that somebody use it, plus I don't find the mono effect in this song annoying while there is many others (Beatles) that personally stress my ear with the sharp and treble guitar on a side and the mid tone voice at the other one, not even brass!... anyway, my point is that I like the mono effect.

And putting apart all that about the mono thing, I like the song pretty much
every time I hear this I think it's Chris Smither with Train Home, then I get all excited, I come here to comment, then realize it's this song and get bummed out.

It's been mentioned a bunch of times but this particular upload is bad.  In fact it sounds like it's been run through some kind of "karaoke filter" to suppress the vocal.  The production on the CD sounds nothing like this and has the vocal up front in center where it belongs.  Considering how much Bill prides himself on excellent audio (and how much this is getting played here) I can't believe it has not been replaced with a proper recording.  Uploading now...

I can totally sympathize. I can't even tell if I would otherwise like the song. I can only managed to be annoyed that I can barely hear much of it.
