Take a deep breath our friend and bang in a 10...!!
Just had to stop what I was doing to thoroughly absorb this masterpiece of vocalizations and music. And raised my rating from 8 to 9. This song was written for k.d. - it suits her voice perfectly.

How does it move you? It's an 8 for me.

There are more.
Sing along time!

One of the most incredible pure singing voices I've ever heard. Just magic.
when this was released. my very young daughter used to sing along to this            'cods in gravy  '
This song (and the whole album) still kicks it 30 years later.
KD's voice is just perfect.
Fantastic..

Definitely. Her 'Shadowland' album is full of great tracks, and her version of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is excellent.
theres a ella fitzgerald  somthness there

That's called a "chorus"; they tend to have a repetition of lyrics.  Look it up.

Damn.
truly dire
It's a fabulous song but really - she must have some other tunes worth playing on RP.
A superlative triptych: Emmylou, Patsy and K.D. Ms Lang has a voice I have loved since first seeing her at The Sidetrack Cafe.
I knew there had been a k.d. lang song that I liked and first introduced me to her.
So, after all my slaps on her, I'll say nicely done on this.
This is Lang at her best love it
Hear that Aimee? That's how it's done.
Constant Carving
I am always hungry, always.  I can never eat enough.  The only way to keep from getting fat, is eating less food.   Gobble gobble gobble gobble.
constant whining...
Can't stand gravy? What's wrong with gravy?
She is so great.
Does anybody else almost hear a Theatre of Tragedy song in this?
Craving a drink from the hairy cup?

. . . I'll get me coat. . .

K.D.'s voice is like liquid gold - I just love it.

Roy Orbison and KD Lang - Interview (1988)

"Roy Kelton Orbison (23 April, 1936 6 December, 1988) "

Do I tire of that sultry, smoooov voice.  No.  No, I don't.
OK but not a patch on Jeff Buckley's superlative rendition.

Anyone who thinks k.d. has a great voice should check out her live version of Cohen's "Hallelujah" at the Juno Awards in Canada. While Constant Craving is jsut okay, her version of the Cohen song is SPINE-CHILLING. Quite simply the best ever. Votes for that one Bill!!!!!

True, flippin' awesome, band as well. Magic song too!

Saw kd in her early wedding dress phase at Lulu's Roadhouse. Wow. That seems so long ago now.
No longer a fan - but this stands out as a classic.

Hear, hear! Cohen's 'Hallelujah' is also on her magnificent tribute to Canadian singer/songwriters: 'Hymns of the 49th Parallel' on the Nonesuch label. Tunes from Neil Young ('After the Gold Rush', 'Helpless'); Joni Mitchell ('A Case of You'); Jane Siberry ('Love is Everything'); Bruce Cockburn ('One Day I Walk') and more, as well as Cohen's 'Bird on a Wire' and 'Hallelujah'.
All of 'em just awesome, please check out this album.
I think you'll want to play more kaydee!

I was just listening to this CD in my car the other day...you know it's good when the hair on your neck stands up.  I second the recommendation—if you haven't heard this album, check it out.

i stole this CD from a lovers house once because of this song.
luckily i had the chance to go back and return it {#Mrgreen}

I've not really cared one way or another about much of her stuff.
That said.
Damn, the lady has one heck of a set of pipes! No?

Incredible talent here.
I am ecstatic to hear this song. It's been a while. Bill, you really do play the best that Canadian music has to offer. Stuff Canadian stations won't play. Loreena McKennet, Neil Young, Bare Naked Ladies, Leonard Cohen, the Tragically Hip and on and on and on. Yay! I'm so glad I found RP. And now the Banshees? Unbelievable. I have this CD. I really like Israel on this album. -Frozen Woman in Winnipeg

Anybody remember the lawsuit between her and the Rolling Stones about this song? If memory serves me, she sued them when they released their (crappy) song "Has Anybody Seen My Baby?" claiming it was a rip-off of this. I think she even won.
I don't think she sued - I heard that Keef copped to the "unconscious plagiarism", decided to avoid the fuss, added her to the credits and paid up.

She did win and is credited as a co-writer of that Stones song

First time I saw kd was at a show in Austin. It was during her "Patsy-Revival" period, when the word about her sexuality was known mostly only to the "L"-crowd. Went to the show, an amazing mix of lesbians and cowboys. One of the good 'ole boys walked up to me and said "Dang.....sure are a lot of women here.....!" I think he was shocked he went home alone.
That's hilarious! I think she's got an outstanding voice, but she's got a lot of material that's better than this. It's not bad, but it's not up there with her best stuff. My favorite is a song called "Full Moon Full of Love".
My X wife likes this song....X wife being the key!

very funny! i like your comment nearly as much as i like the song, and i LOVE the song! (i can see how your native accent might contribute to the ... er ... transformation.) check out the personnel on the album sometime. she plays MANY of the instruments herself, while on stage (when i've seen her) she "simply" sings.

Is it just me or does this song smack of a James Bond themesong? Can't you just picture the scantily clad women in jello or latex paint or something floating around while bond swims amongst them? Constant craving indeed.
er, i think it's just you. maybe the teenage boy bubbling to the surface? ;)
Not a big KD fan, but this has a great sound.

Had a chance to see her perform live. THE best live vocal performance I've ever heard.
One of my kd favorites!
i changed my mind. i like it now. kinda reminds me of king crimson!
What a golden voice she has! Perfection. I saw her live a couple of weeks ago at the Hollywood Bowl, and she jokingly did a medley of her "1" Hit...her "only" radio hit. Ridiculous but true. Such a talent.
"Can't stand gravy" is the line. Great song.
The vocal harmonies in this song is among the most beautiful I have ever heard. Pure perfection.

?? Are you KIDDING me??
I saw kd on vh1 cover an old hollies tune - and damn she turned that song inside out. Fantastic voice.

ditto, big time. I just turned off RP for a few minutes. KD=Whiner.
Comment about the personnel: the co-writer and producer is Ben Mink, formerly of the Canadian experimental band FM (where he played electric violin and mandolin, taking Nash the Slash's place for two albums). I also believe he played violin and guitar on the studio version of "Constant Craving". He also is an integral part of Geddy Lee's solo CD, My Favorite Headache, co-producing, co-writing, and playing guitar, violin, viola, and synths. Raven
i really like this song. but can't stop laughing about the "constipation" quote. reminds me of the bruce cockburn song that had the refrain that sounds like "dried intestines" (tried & tested) :)
Beautiful song from a talented woman.

Y note has made me laugh a lot, o yes. Y bro got quite an imagination. Nonetheless, some how, neither u nor y bro didn't change my attitude. I give firm 8. So I'm still smiling. What makes it even more delicious is that Tamara is a Russian name. So, a Russian-named-English-instructor from Korea has a bro whose perception of Kd drama is locked in the bathroom. Quite a wonderful mess. 8O

Ditto to everything you wrote. I don't like everything she has recorded but she has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard (and I can say that after seeing her perform live a few times).
a very great classic, from little sis K.D., who I've loved since she was kicking around Vancouver clubs in crinoline and cowgirl boots. "Constant Craving" a truly great theme, at least to this horny gay Buddhist. Layers and layers, like Nagarjuna's onion.
This darn song was waaaaaaaaaaay overplayed here in Canada back in the day and I still can't stand it as a result.
kd has one of the most beautiful voices around. This live version is an okay change, but I prefer the studio production.
I\'ve never been so shocked by so many negative comments. I think this song is gorgeous, and has really become a classic. It\'s nice to hear the live version too!
I find it hard to admit that I really like this song now. Back when this song was released, I was still in high school, and working on my parents farm. Working in a tractor for many hours a day with only an AM radio leaves you few choices (especially since I had yet to discover CBC), and often found myself listening to one of the local country music stations. Of course they played the crap out of this song when it came out. Combine the overplaying of the song with the strident sound of her voice coming over really bad speakers, and I grew to detest the song. Now, admittedly, I think it is beautiful! I guess that\'s progress.

That very well may be, but this particular song does not inspire me.

I'd have to guess you haven't listened to much music. While this is far from a personal favorite (I would give this one a 5 or 6), those are extreem words.
Bill, why do you persistantly (constantly?) play the live version of this? Her voice sounds so much better on the studio version.
This is where I turn off the radio.
there isn\'t a stronger female vocalist! she\'s a fab singer/songwriter.
Whenever I hear this I am constantly craving to change the channel. :p

This song made her, eventually, join copyrights with Jagger/Richards cause their Has Anybody Seen My Baby was quite similar. Well, the ol' boys sometimes don't remember songs from the past they wrote themselves, so you can hardly blame them they forget others as well. ;)
The kind of voice that puts most pop singers to shame. And this is one of her best since \"Torch & Twang.\"
I LOVE gravy, and k.d.\'s voice is the perfect sweet dessert.
Good Gravy! :p
I am not a huge KD fan, but I dig this live version a lot!
