Darol Anger was the violinist in the original lineup of the Dave Grissman Quintet.  A superb musician.

LoL! Good One!   EXCELLENT  Version!!
RP has only ONE TUNE by them on the playlist.  PLEASE ADD MORE!!  Thank You.

I like classic rock and DO NOT play violin or cello...and I like this WAY more than 'meh' - it's a 9 for me (of course the Cream version gets an 11 for me - and wouldn't mind hearing it here...even though it's one of the more popular 'classic rock' tunes there is....)

Long Live RP and all the string instrument covers of classic rock tunes!!

I Agree!! That is why we come here.  Thanx RP!
Robert Johnson is dancing in his grave
My first thought was: NAME THAT TUNE!

Wait a minute, I know this song!  Isn't that Clapton on the lead violin?

haha, "wait a minute" my exact words before opening this site to see what this was.

  It certainly isn't Robert Johnson..

Well, I guess if you play violins/cellos and like classic rock, this makes sense. Otherwise, meh!

LOL!!  Gay also means Happy!!

You don't really think the OP was trying to say this is "stupid and happy", do you?

totally stupid and gay.

Gay? Does this song find itself sexually attracted to songs of the same gender?

If you were just trying to say "stupid" two times and ran out of synonyms (dumb, lame, idiotic, pointless, unintelligent, empty, vapid, clueless?), may I suggest that you just stop at the first "stupid"? Gay does not mean stupid.

On behalf of my gay friends and family members, I offer you this

Cream's version of this CLASSIC Blues song by RJ is one of my fav tracks ever.  This rendition is also pretty damn cool.  And I love when BillG pulls out a track he hasn't played a lot.  I'd be OK with hearing more of the TISQ and/or string versions of classic tunes.  Long Live RP!!

Nice homage to EC.
Semi-refreshing after the gawd awful - Cream — Those Were the Days
These guys cop Clapton's licks perfectly!
This was a nice mix after Those were the Days - Cream - cool!
These guys are good! I heard them in concert with Nellie McKay at Notre Dame DeBartolo Center a few years back, and it was terrific. A great collaboration of two somewhat obscure acts that clicked together for a couple years.
We be jammin'!!!
So, I'm listening to "Those Were the Days" from Wheels of Fire, the last song, and I'm thinking, why doesn't Bill play "Crossroads?" And damned if he doesn't—just not the same one. Awesome.
Bill ain't F'ing around tonight
do your thing man

And Genesis... Likeable tune.
Good stuff.
Great way to rock out on a Friday afternoon!

Dig it!!!! And how about Kronos Quartet's rendition of Purple Haze... perhaps we can get some play on that?
wow. this is so juicy and melodic.

Extremely good cover of cream. Very good interpretation.
um, cream's version was also a cover. "crossroads" was originally done by robert johnson...
And now for something completely fun! :daisy.gif:
And now for something completely different....

I'm not normally much of a fan of this recent spate of string renditions of classic songs. But this one is good. It sounds fun. It has energy. It doesn't sound like chamber music...which is fine in its own right, but not on rock 'n' roll songs.

Gay people rock!! And such fashion sense!!
omfg, this music is from 1990!! LoL! Thought this was "new" music.

Most excellent! :-({|=
Had been a fan of these guys years ago, before this configuration, and then had sorta lost track and forgotten. RP:
I suppose the same people who complained about Bela Fleck playing "Moonlight Sonata" on banjo will take issue with a string quartet's rendition of "Crossroads"... The rest of us will appreciate it for what it is...damn fine music!
I had an opportunity to see Darol Anger and Mike Marshall play in a show near here and it was truly phenomonal. Anger is a fantastic fiddler (violinist?) and their playlist was a wild mix of fusion, bebop, and bluegrass. Believe it or not they had a drummer who must have been no more than 25 who played at the same level of folks like Billy Cobham and Steve Gadd. Quite a show.
This song totally rocks my house! Thanks, RP
Great cover!
Hehe... someone needs to download some Kronos Quartet too; --d
I saw these guys live a few years ago in Roanoke, VA. Terrific! More Turtle Island, please! :-({|=
.... there's just something about this I LIKE !*!*!* it's such a GREAT song ... especially the Cream version) .... the band I played in back in the late 60's played the song ... always liked the energy of it !*!*! ( I have to admit that the use of stringed instruments on rock and roll is something I've liked since I heard 'Apocalyptica' ... 4 chello's playing Metallica !*!*!* ..... :-({|=
In place of marginal, read annoying... Maybe just too early in the morning?
Also check out Kronos Quartet' Purple Haze... or Fourplay from down under which does lots of covers on violins and good too, incl. Kraftwerk and Metallica ;) I have 2 of their CDs bought when they toured and visited the Netherlands.
totally awesome.
I bought this album when it came out, based on a review in Newsweek, and primarily for this song. Cranked it to 11 once I got it home, too.
Cool man! And strangely appropriate, considering I\'m sitting here, watching my two tortises amble around the yard and graze on my lawn. :D
cool!
Proof again that music need not have drums, guitars, and several \'chicks\' lickin\' each other to be pretty fun and cool.
