Blue skies come down on me
White clouds are now in view,
it rained forty days you know
it rained fory nights you know
Blue skies came down on me.
Be careful what you say
You said that yesterday,
Tell me something new
It's always, always you
Blue skies come down on me
Gray clouds are far away,
I sought it for days on days
I sought it six weeks or so
But blue skies came down on me.
Be careful what you say
You said that yesterday,
Tell me something new
It's always ocean blue
Blue skies come down on me
White clouds are now in view
and you should see the view
and you should see the view
Blue skies

Happy music.
Thank you RP for bringing back memories of Central Pennsylvania in the early 90’s. They played in many small clubs back then, I was fortunate to see them many times.
Larking occurred when this song was playing.
I don't know how this slipped by me for 33 years. Thanks RP!

I hear it as well. Nothing wrong with being influenced by JC!  Good stuff!
Roxy Music, meet The Church
X-Files?! Anyone…?!

i don't know, but he played this a day ago...doesn't need to be played again so soon.

I hear a lot of echo them and the Bunnymen in this
Damn, I think I have this cd...will have to blow the dust off and see if its any good or not...

One negative 'like', for that? You kids need to get a sense of humour!

Laughably lame lyrics sung very nicely.
Nice voice, nice style, just plain nice.
All in all an instantly forgettable song that was pleasant at the time.

NICE! I woke up to cold gray skies today thinking that I sure could use a dose of The Ocean Blue... Again, RP to the emotional rescue!
More Julian Cope I'd say, maybe a mixture.                                            Didge wrote:

Seems too long since I heard this one here... This forum on RP was probably my first real introduction to who actually did this song. I always loved the mix of sounds in this, similar to The Samples, The Cure, even a hint of Psychedelic Furs here and there... Truly swoon-inducing, for me, every time. I wish this band got more credit and playtime... I think that their recent work is quite good, too...

A terrific band with a great sound and really good records (sadly too few of them, they only put out one every 8 years or so). Very good in concert too, again way too infrequent. Great to hear them on RP!

Yes! Their first hits ("The Office of a Busy Man", "Drifting, Falling") really nailed the feel of the late 80s-early 90s. But the songs still sound fresh and true. Somehow they remind me of an American version of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, although that may be down to both bands liberally using an echo effect in their music.
Still love their sound...ambience creation.  Every time I hear them on RP, it reminds me to put an album on the playlist.

Only way to improve this would be to follow it with The Big Sea (Funki Porcini)..
Such a wonderful song...  Always seems to end too soon!
Slick production...stands the test of time.
what a sweet song!
Good set this morning!
So nice to hear this as the first really blue skies in a while shine down upon us here in Boulder! And I vouch for the Ultramarine record!
Shades of Echo and the Bunnymen.....
Have you heard? The Ocean Blue is back! They released a new album called Ultramarine in March on Korda records. They did a little tour around it too.

Hey now! Don't mess with Jon!
Always reminds me of sunny, cheerful times...a bit reminiscent of The Samples back in the day...and it's always excellent to hear such a happy, chiming, soaring melodic swoon again on RP, thanks!

I'm hearing the Outfield ... the Cure too, but the strained vocals are very Outfield (around 'Diamond Days).  It's almost hard to listen to.  Not that it is bad, just not confident, owning the song ... that kinda thing.  Not a big fan but not bad either.
So good to hear this again - what a great song, underrated album. Just lovely

I could hear more of him and he does sound Cope-like.
Maybe rating this higher than it deserves for sentimental reasons - 9!
Totally reminds me of high school.
I'd rather have listen the original Morrissey (or The Smiths, which is the same thing).

Haha, Copey on the mellow pills, as opposed to all the other stuff he's took.{#Chillpill}  Good call tho'. Would love to hear him on here

I'm still trying to figure out what a "dozends" is. I envision an elusive, beautiful animal with three horns and the ability to strike a person comatose. ANd if that's what Stingray has in his head, I can only say that THAT explains his comments.

I still love this song, no matter what the ever-puzzling/frustrating/anger-making Stingray has to say.

This album is not quite as strong as their self-titled debut (which is a gem), but quite good nonetheless.  Sonically, they kind of picked up where The Smiths left off, though the lyrical content is completely different, of course.

As boring as their terrible album-cover!

What about a decent melody? Ask me - I have dozends in my head!

Um, Stingray, I love you dearly, but please shut up. You're ruining my fantasy.  Thank you. {#Mrgreen}
Oh, this just flows... I love it. I can't crank it up because my brother's in the next room, but if I could, I would. Tuneful, great vocals, and it just makes me smile. And who could NOT love a band with a name like "The Ocean Blue"? {#Mrgreen}{#Sunny}
A lot like cold play meeting new order and losing all of the good parts of new order in the process...

They sound British but they are American. Great, dreamy, pop music. {#Music}
Nice string: Waterboys, Sunday, Verve, Ocean Blue. Happy happy, joy joy!
First time for Ocean Blue for me on RP—one of my faves.
Nice!!
Nice!

Robert Smith must have been sick that day...
Mighty Lemon Drops meets Dream Academy

Wow, this takes me back as well!  So nice to be surprised by this band popping up on the RP playlist this evening!

Spot on, with some bits threatening to plagiarise Magazine.

Ask me.  Ask me Jon!
Oh boy, does this take me back.

Nice to hear Kermit finally got out from under the shadow of the Muppets. Decent, I guess. Either he's heading toward a Morrissey level of throat-singing, or he needs to put a little spunk in his singing. I'll just leave it at that.
Like the other reviewers I find this comment painfully hilarious. Very spot on. I love the Ocean Blue, but this song doesn't work for me for exactly the reasons roverfish so eloquently stated. A 4 from me - Acceptable

I bought this CD at Vinyl Fever in Tallahassee on a whim (soon after release). Afterwards my roommate and I drove all the way to the Gulf (Alligator Point) listening to it. I'm not sure if I'd love the band if it didn't always remind me of that malnourished and yet pleasant time. Another example of what my GF calls "Whiney white-guy music" :) I even have a section in my CD collection for them.
Vinyl Fever!!! What great memories...I practically lived there. I preferred it when it was smaller and dingier. Sounds like it was a fun drive :)

I know I'm reaching here, but I'm thinking the solo resembles Altered Images - "Don't Talk to Me About Love" from the "Bite" lp.
My favorite music review ever involved The Ocean Blue. It read: "..any band that tries that hard to sound English has gotta suck..." Loved the comment, yet I don't necessarily agree -- 7

Good followup to their debut album. A very young band to make the major album circuit. At their first album, their combined ages totalled 64 years (that 16 years each). Pretty awesome that a bunch of high school kids could put out such mature music. I wonder what ever happened to these guys. As my 12 year son would say: "To the internet!"
They still tour small clubs from time to time.
Do these guys wear matching gingham shirts with kerchiefs tied at the neck? This is one damned irritating, stupid sounding song. Got to mute it.

Whoa!
I like The Samples kind of bubbly upism at work here. And the tune ain't bad, either! Seems I heard it ages ago but never pinned it down till now...Great work, tying it all together in a stream I can use, Bill!

It's not easy bein' ocean blue.
from their website: The Ocean Blue began in the late 1980's in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Teenage friends David Schelzel, Steve Lau, and Bobby Mittan came together for the love of new wave and college radio of the day that simmered beneath the mainstream of popular music.

I didn't think anyone had bought this album except me! Nice to hear it though prefer their 1989 self-titled album. M
Eez gud! Yeses! Plays some more, pleez?

Great Band! Just saw them last month in New york. Play more please...
Am I commenting on the right song? The one I am listening to is boring and repetitive, and I can't discern the words of the lyrics. (Yes, I was right, because I can understand some words in the next song, and they do fit the title.) There is a time and a place for songs to fall asleep to, but this is not it. :-k
This sounds alot like something from Starcastle in the 70's.
The only memory I have of this band is a commercial for this album that used to get aired on MTV. After hearing a few songs off of it on RP I picked it up used from Amazon.com a few months ago. Its very good. Lots of Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen influences in there. I'd certainly recommend it.
Very pleasing sound. Some of the guitar sounds like earlier Cure.
Nice!
I only knew songs from their first album and uploaded a couple. Thanks for introducing me to some of their other stuff.
