The Series was just fucking great.
As was The Movie.

Pacifico.  That's it.
Just made the connection. The band is out of Midland and the Permian Panthers were Midlands rivals.

outstanding grey day song

As far as I know, or I guess, recall, this was used in the TV show. A very lovely piece of music.
Nice. Reminds me of Pale Saints "A Thousand Stars Burst Open" in tone, but its not quite a powerful.
Lovely.  Thanks RP.

Two soundtracks with music featured on the show were released. The first, Friday Night Lights, was released in 2007, and included music from The KillersOutKast, andExplosions in the Sky, who had produced the score for the film. The second soundtrack, Friday Night Lights Vol. 2, was released in 2010, and included the main "Friday Night Lights Theme" by W. G. Walden. The score for both the film and television show, along with all background music and all instrumental music is performed byExplosions in the Sky.
My absolute favorite book-made-into-a-movie!  A lot to due with the music...Both are top notch to me ☺️

This. The way it was edited and the added strings really take away a lot of the original's magic for me.
Has a bit of an "All India Radio" sound. Very cool.

I was lucky enough to catch them playing at the Orpheum Theater in Boston... best show I've ever seen in my life.

Sorry, Project, had I seen your post earlier I would have obliged.

Never saw the movie or read the book but the first few seasons of "Friday Night Lights" were outstanding. Even the last one, which had some storylines that felt forced, was great. Definitely worth catching on Netflix if that's available where you are, Unclehud.

Grant, here on RP new songs are uploaded by registered users, then voted on as they are played on the listener request channel.  Upload some of the other songs by EITS that you'd like to hear on RP, and LRC listeners will let you know if they'd like to hear more by their votes. {#Angel}

I can't believe this is the only song from EITS on the RP playlist?!  Their new album "Take Care, Take Care, Take Care" is really amazing - all the songs are fabulous.  Trembling Hands in particular is a ROCKER, but there's lots of great mid tempo and beautiful slow pieces as well.

Bill, you really need to add a few more of their songs - they have such an amazing catalog of brilliant instrumental music.

They are finally coming back to Chicago in June of 2012, got tickets and looking forward to hearing them live.

The last season felt a bit tacked on, but it was a great, great show. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton were tremendous. Never thought I'd get hooked when I first started watching.

Would love to know how that combined Panthers-Lions team worked out.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Happy to hear Explosions In the Sky on RP!

This is very different from the version I purchased from the Explosions' website, way back when (or was it Amazon?). Anyway, guess I'll have to get this soundtrack CD. Like this version very much!
Nice.

I gave it a 10 just because it is being used for one of the best Tv shows ever made :)

My kids love this band, and turned me on to them a few years ago.  Now, that is payback on my investment in raising them.

If you think this is somehow "fruity" or "soft" I invite you to consider the examples provided by some of the ancient (ie. Roman or Spartan) battle formations, in which men packed themselves close and communicated largely by touch in order to prevent gaps in their shield lines; the end result was generally the swift and brutal evisceration of any opposing force that did not maintain such discipline.

But of course your comment and accompanying emoticon clearly demonstrate a rugged manliness superior even to that.

That's just what I was thinking, especially about someone dear who loves pyrotechnic explosions in the sky.

I saw 'em that tour too (in Orlando).  I have never felt as old as I did that night... the place was PACKED with young teens.  Says good things about the tastes of the youth, so I let the reminder of my decrepitude pass ;)

- Your mix CDs only consist of less than six songs.
- When you sing a tune, it usually comes out in gibberish.
- No delay effects pedal = No fun
- You're probably the only person around who can tolerate 5 minutes of static
- Your mates demand that you change to radio after realizing that your CDs are all instrumentals that go nowhere.
- Any attempt to drag your friends to gigs will have them waiting for an hour for the singing to start
- Your harddrive is full of small unsigned or independent bands from strange countries
- You're in a band that pays homage to either Godspeed! or EitS
- Nobody bothers asking you what music you're into anymore
- You feel an overwhelming sense of disappointment when vocals first appear in a track
- Your 30 gig iPod is full at 4000 songs
- Generally, when someone asks you what kind of music you like you say something like "post-rock-post-hardcore-avant-guarde-ambient-fuzz-melancholy-abstract-shit"
- you constantly search for bands off of constellation records
- people stare at you when they ask you what you're listening to
- It bothers you when someone is talking during the quiet parts of your songs.
- When someone asks you for a name for their band and you come up with something like, "The Light dies when the sun sets and lives when the moon shines green".

The best listener post I've seen for a long time.

I totally identify with the post rock comment —- good new rock music is effin hard to find.

I IMMEDIATELY sent this to my son.  This is his current favorite band.  Chill.

saw them play at lolla and now i'm addicted.

they were amazing.

all guitars all the time . . .
I don't even understand how people can compare Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky in the same breath. Other than the fact that they're mostly instrumental and have longer songs, I fail to see any similarities. Godspeed is gigantic, grandiose, pompous, and pretentious...and Explosions is little more than wimpy, noodling, throwaway Mogwai melodies. Sorry.
yay! Explosions in the Sky! first time i've ever heard them played outside of my CD player! Nice oneRP!
