This funk is in the pantheon of gods from Stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield era! Billy Preston grooves my soul.

maybe there were six Beatles...have you seen the bit in the apple+ show 'get back' where Billy joins the group? It is amazing how everything just comes together.
Don't forget Clarence (the full skit is not up on youtube):

Imagine thinking, "I know what! Let's play my clavinet through my wah pedal! Groovy, baby!" And the world is a better place for it.

I used to help run a disco (actually we called it a discotheque) club in Oxford between (about) 1968 and 1971. This was was one of our members' favourite dancing records (and mine). You can't get much funkier.

Went to the first run of Concert for Bangladesh film where Billy performed. That was also an excellent performance.

Bill,
In the segue into this song, you said some people refer to Billy Preston as, "The Fifth Beatle." They can say that but everybody knows Pete Best is the rightful and only Fifth Beatle.
Billy can be the Sixth, though. I have no objection.

What a Pedigree!!! 8 9
Great funky music from 70s!
I remember Billy Preston singing, "Will It Go Round In Circles?" on the radio back in the early '70s while my brother and I were riding our bikes down to the ice cream shop... In my opinion, some foundation was laid down here in these impeccably funky keys for The Charlatans' "Feel Flows" and Galactic's "Mercameron," not to mention keyboard-heavyweight acts like Medeski, Martin, and Wood...
I saw Billy Preston opening for Grand Funk back in the early 70's. He was a phenomenal performer in his white suit and platform shoes shakin booty (and his 'fro) while dancing on top of his white grand piano; an image I'll never forget! He brought the house down! Great memory.
The fros! Cool.
Perfecto!

I missed an opportunity to see a free Billy Preston concert in San Jose a few years ago—walking distance from my house—and a couple years later, he passed. This is truly one of the biggest regrets of my life. No way to ever recapture a missed opportunity like that.

Norah Jones just sang and we have Billy Preston. What is the connection between the two you may ask? Why Ravi Shankar of course.

...and was supposed to play with the Band later on, but his legal entanglements (fooling around with a Mexican boy) prevented that.

I think Boogie Nights when I hear this tune.
Preston is apparently the only non-Beatle to be credited on a Beatles recording ('Get Back').
Something of a fifth Beatle.

WOW. A 120% chance of a serious funk storm with this one! Not used to hearing this much R&B on RP as I have this morning. I like it very much.

Maybe it sounds ridiculous to you, but scores of musical artists have used the clavinet, and still use it. Great song.

Billy Preston is a true master at the keyboard—funk keyboard...
Good enough to play with the Beatles.
Don't forget he played with the Beatles at their last live performance atop the Apple building in London.

Oh yeah! Billy Preston on the Hammond organ. Played and recorded with Beatles at the end. Got to see him with George Harrison in Tucson doing Will It Go Round in Circles, Ravi Shankar filled the rest of the bill. Peace to the world is the mantra we all need to sing.
Outta site!
Try to sit still...just try
Nice!
Right on. I think Bill followed SanFranGayMan's advise a couple of songs back to "do some drugs, slow down and listen fer godsakes!"
