I'm going back to 505
If it's a 7-hour flight or a 45-minute drive
In my imagination, you're waiting, lying on your side
With your hands between your thighs
Stop and wait a sec
Oh, when you look at me like that, my darling, what did you expect?
I'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck
Or I did last time I checked
Not shy of a spark
A knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark
Frightened by the bite, no, it's no harsher than the bark
The middle of adventure, such a perfect place to start
I'm going back to 505
If it's a 7-hour flight or a 45-minute drive
In my imagination, you're waiting, lying on your side
With your hands between your thighs
But I crumble completely when you cry
It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye
I'm always just about to go and spoil the surprise
Take my hands off of your eyes too soon
Well, I'm going back to 505
If it's a 7-hour flight or a 45-minute drive
In my imagination, you're waiting, lying on your side
With your hands between your thighs and a smile

I just can't get past the singer's horrible accent. I have nothing against that sort of accent in general, but when sung it really grates on me for some reason.

Alex..
Love this song live here in Vancouver when they backed up Black Keys back in 2013. Sensational version!!
Immediately makes me think of my 18 year old daughter who will sell her Dad to see them live. Probably won't cover it unfortunately
thought it was Franz Ferdinand

I really like the Arctic Monkeys! Great band, and they always seem to have a great groove.
This song jams. Must be turned up to 11 for full enjoyment.

Long Live RP!!

Hey, hey, it's The Monkeys!
I just keep ending up at 404.
I wonder if they used an 808 on this song
Not my favorite album by them but always nice to hear bands you like .
Funny how their music slowed down over the years! It's still good though, just different :)

What he said
Don't like an accent?
Get out much?
I'm expressive, perhaps too much so.
But if I were fluent in sign language, I'd go out of my way to give them all those details they never see (HEAR) as we do. Interpreters give them what they need without elaborating on the restovit. I'd try to include the little details.

I need you to understand what an assinine comment this is. And if you are judging a song on this basis? WTF? I'm sure your accent grates on most of the population of Australia and China. Mine as well. Especially if I sang something.
Annoying crap.
I love this song,

Well that's not very fair. I really enjoy British accents (as long as they aren't so heavy as to require subtitles!)
But it seems to me no more or less asinine for someone to really enjoy an accent as opposed to being put off by one. So, would I have been out of line if I had said I liked the singer's accent?
*shrug*

like this flow
i think it fits the ticket and then some. 8
I just can't get into their music too much - heard them live on Sirius at ACL (I think) and it was pretty dreadful. But I really like this song.
Better every time I hear this. 9->10. I'd love to see them live, but alas they probably won't play a show in Alaska anytime soon. Probably have to wait another 30 years till they come play the state fair because they are washed up, like all the old bands do when they don't know how to call it quits. This year we had Goo Goo Dolls, Three Dog Night, Stone Sour.
Cold Apes!
Really like this.
Fantastic gig last night in Lyon. So rock'n roll. Definitely worth listening to live.
Incredible band, incredible song!

One of the world's best bands for a number of years now. Fabulous lyricist, and like Fred (below) I love that they retain and sing in their Sheffield accents (though I admit to bias on that score!)

Good Heavens, this song REALLY ROCKS, RIGHT ABOUT — HERE! Still one of the most exciting builds & breakouts ever set down!
Agree. Love em.
it seems that everytime i hear something good/interesting on RP and i check to see who it is i see they are playing another Arctic Monkeys song

? I listened to a lot of music in the 80s, popular and alternative, and the Arctic Monkeys wouldn't fit into any 'genre' from that period. There are influences from 80s (and current) bands (The Fall comes to mind) but that could be said about many modern bands. AM are very much of our modern times, IMO. I love the way that they're unapologetically South Yorkshire Tykes, and sing about life in Sheffield, 'appen, in proper Sheffield accents, without morphing into some kind of mid-Atlantic genericity (is that a word) that so many other Brit bands have done.
Nice to hear genuine accents. We are not Americans, so why pretend that we are? Richard Ashcroft, are you listening? Thought not.

wow .. that was awesome. First time I've heard this. Quite like it
....... enjoying this, really good
For me, sometimes it CAN'T get any better than when they stop everything and he SCREAMS, just like the angst I know in my heart...
First listen - wow!
This song just keeps getting better after every listen. The driving beat and instrumentation + lyrical imagery + passionate vocals = great fuckin' song.
Love it ..
I like it too EssexTex wrote:

yes! a good monkey's song.
Plain Rocks
Sometimes a song succeeds by virtue of a great driving beat and really good instrumentals. In this case it would make the grade without any lyrics.

yikes! diving head first into destructive relationships seem to be a theme with this band... but the instrumentation is always top notch. :)

A song about his gal waiting in room 505 with "her hands between her thighs" and he'll do anything he can to get back to the hotel room... that's hot. Fantastic song with great lyrics.

Can we please take this song out of rotation? I could stand to hear it once a month, tops.

These Monkeys do a fine job at music !!
I really really want to like this album. . .but I'm finding myself rating most of what I hear no higher than a 6. Including this one. If those were all 7s, I'd totally buy it. . .but 6. . .eh. Just not quite there.

An old navy friend of mine told me of an acronym EMHO, but it won't apply to our friend EMO, IMO

sick and tired of everyone qualifying everything as EMO. Read up on your definitions people!
The intertubes have generated a new definition of "emo", capturing things like "whines in their blog about how much their life sucks", "wears black", and "cuts self". Most of the places I see it used in that sense it's met dismissively. Not sure how this sense applies to music, where it is distinct from the genre known as emo.
Compare Emo (music) to Emo (slang) on Wikipedia. Obviously, it gets confusing when people apply the latter to the former.
