Still remains one of my favorites, which I still listen to often including the whole album. Thanks RP for bringing this music to me (us).

In April of 1993 I had a Stopover at Djibouti while traveling between Nairobi and Haargeisa (Somaliland). I spent a day there. It was soooooooo hot from 10:00 am into the evening, and the town was empty. Then, starting ~7pm the night markets started up and the place was crowded. Food vendors, other vendors, shoppers, eaters, it was amazing!

It kept up until after midnight then we all went to bed. Fantastic place.

This song definitely resonates, as I have been to Djibouti.  Funny little place.
RP never ceases to surprise! Lovely piece.
DO yourself a favor and watch the live version live
beautiful.
EXCELLENT!  Thanx RP!
Great stuff!  Almost uncanny hearing this tonight as earlier today I listened to a podcast about the oud.

Drums remind me of spending a pleasant evening at Candlehearth Hall in Windhelm
The deepest bass bits makes this sort of mysterious to listen to...they're there, but just...
Wow!  Thank you for reminding me that I own this CD!  AS I recall, it's pretty cool, all the way through.

Despite scales in key, jazz is noise made on musical instruments.

Maybe you haven't experienced much jazz.  It can be an acquired taste.  However, to me anyway, "Stopover" seems particularly accessible and beautiful.  Like all art, what's enjoyable, touching, & beautiful is in the eyes and ears of the beholder.  But "noise"? So negative - May I suggest an ENT
?

The oud is a beautiful instrument. This is so peaceful. My favorite recording of it is Hamza El Din on the album 'A Wish'. I'm surprised none of his work on RP.
another great RP introduction for me.  Love this one, Thanks Bill!

It is also the silence between noise.

Absolutly fan of Anouar Brahem. Specialy this song. I love the way how he play oud.
Theres an awful lot of Paul Winter in this piece.
(Opps! Just noticed the earlier post. Apparently I’m not alone.)
Very nice.
It conjures memories of tracks by the Paul Winter Consort back in the '70s and '80s.

Although I avoid Djibouti personally, this music is a lovely blend of North African and Arabic music. Fantastic.

Purchased this album - it's wonderful overall and the sound quality of the recording is excellent! Chalk up yet another new artist I wouldn't have found without RP.
Like all albuns by Anuar Bahrem: Outstanding Music & Oustanding Recording

Sweetness and light on Halloween. So sweet  so rare.
I can't get over this song. The time signatures, the key changes, the instrumentation, the phrasing. Love it!
A little bit of advice, don't ever do a stopover in Djibouti. Almost the biggest shithole in the world.

Thanks for the discovery! Love it!
It makes me think I probably should propose a little bit of Titi Robin, would be great to hear him on RP :)
Very much like Anouar Brahem. I have 2 other albums of him. Didn't know this one yet.
Very nice photo.

This is really pleasant, make the grind of this spreadsheet that much easier.

From the comments it looks like this disk should be added to the wish list. I really enjoy this track so the risk seems slight.

I'd rather listen to some MUSIC... ;-)
Ah, Anouar. Another fantastic musician and fabulous ECM album.
This musician is great, thanks to RP for introducing him to me. I highly recommend all his albums!
I will be forever grateful to RP for introducing me to this music.

Sublime.
Terrific album... I look forward to hearing more from him in the future.
This is excellent, but for me the standout track on this album is the title track - absolutely exquisite!

Really nice mix. This is summertime car-windows-down on a starry night kind of stuff.

I bought this track on iTunes before it finished playing on RP. I should check out the rest of Anouar's music.
Just moved it from a 7 to an 8 (might yet get to a 9). Love the percussion, too.

Yes, I'm enjoying this, and would love to hear some Oregon (and/or Ralph Towner) on RP!

Hi, Jade! {#Wave} I agree. Very whimsical - it takes me on a journey, much like Joni's "Paprika Plains" - can't explain it. Just gotta go with it and be ready for the magic on the other side... Hugs to you.

EDIT:  The website is mostly in French, and there's no English translation option that I could find. Still, I love the music, so I'll trot out my French translation book and do my best...

Love ambient fusion.  This is nice!

Awesome!!
Clarinet!! Yes, I was just going to say . . . .

Having played the clarinet for 15 years growing up its nice to hear it used in something other than symphonic band or jazz.
The noodling clarinet sounds like something from Bolero ... not in a bad way, but I hear it.
Wow!
