I was born tired, I never got arrested
Harder than marble stone
I'm better off, better off left alone
'Cause I'm not the one
No, I'm not the one
You wanted it all
But I'll give you none
'Cause I'm not the one
Well like a toy to a kid
I said jump and mama you did
And you know, your daddy knows and your mama knows that's wrong
So now it's time for me to move on
'Cause I'm not the one
No, I'm not the one
You wanted it all
But I give you, give you none
'Cause I'm not the one
No
No I'm not the one
No
No I'm not the one
You think that I'm normal
All these years, I'm just tryin' to warn you
You'd do good to move on
No it won't, it won't hurt me none
'Cause I'm not the one
No, I'm not the one
You wanted it all
But I give you, give you none
'Cause I'm not the one
No, I'm not the one, yeah
I'm not the one
Not the one for you
Not the one, the one
Not the one
I do like the Black Keys, but I also wish Danger Mouse knew how to set his levels to keep from distorting the bass and just completely crushing all the life out of the song. You hear that here, you hear it on Broken Bells, you hear it on pretty much everything he touches. Kinda makes you think he means to do it that way. Kinda makes you wish someone would let him know it sounds like shit.
It's not about levels. Too-high levels on digital gear lead to hard clipping, which is not what's happening here. This is a deliberate effect, via either digital effects plugins or outboard analog gear, that aims to emulate the sound of old analog recordings & vinyl records, by recreating the specific types of distortion that gear produced. It's an artistic choice.
I agree that it sounds like shit, at least when overdone. I'd love to unload on DM some time about that Michael Kiwanuka record...
I like BK, but I LOVE this version by Betty LaVette. She feels my pain, and I feel hers. . . . .

7 years later, I finally listen to Bettye Lavette's version, and I love it! Thanks CathStewart94!
Good to know, I thought it was my amp as have been tube rolling.
Thank you.
The kick drum and toms are pretty distorted too...
I've got an album by The Arcs which is pretty much unlistenable in one go. Grim production values, to my ears.

I'm not sure if it's (just) Danger Mouse; it seems like you hear that distorted/muffled bass and drums on most things Dan Auerbach touches as well. It's clearly done on purpose; for some reason they both seem to like that sound.
You should listen to some of their other stuff. You might change your mind.
Must be another RP (Radio Pasadena? ). Radio Paradise never plays the same song several times a day.
No, but they do play the same artists several times per day. Porcupine Tree, My Morning Jacket, Talking Heads etc. Not complaining, just saying. Well, maybe complaining about Talking Heads, but otherwise - carry on.

Hey, lots of folks like this (7.5 rating overall). Seems to me that not everyone must like every song. So you might want to exercise your right to use the mute button when this comes around again.
You are so smart...what have you written/produced lately, just curious!
This doesn't seem like the sort of band that The Garden would suit very well; they're essentially a 'garage' duo. The Beacon would seem a more fitting venue for these guys, if not someplace smaller.
If you have not already, do it! It's a fantastic album if you like what you've heard so far.

Great pre-break-up song.. One of the best on this release.
I liked the novelty of this song the first few times, but I'm rather tired of it now. Thanks, Jelani, for the comedic relief.
Blind Lemon Jefferson 1926
Robert Johnson 1936
Tony Hollins 1941
Chuck Berry 1954
Otis Redding 1964
AC/DC 1975
I was wearing power suits and doing lines in the 80's
Black Crowes 1990
Black Keys 2010
I'm sure others could expand upon and dispute the line between these dots, but I submit this as DNA evidence. Stingray, I realize that there was no legitimate music recorded before 1990, when artists spontaneously began creating without influence - but humor me, okay?
What I don't see is the connection between Otis Redding and AC/DC. Am I missing something? I have Otis Redding on vinyl and CD. Did AC/DC possess any sort of funk, and I just didn't hear it? Could be my bias against those screechy white guy vocalists from the 70's. I was never a big Zeppelin fan, either. Loved the Stones, who had some funk, and loved Graham Parker, who had funk and a horn section. Anyway, I just don't get the connection from AC/DC to Otis Redding.
And, I like the Black Keys more than the White Stripes, but I can't figure out why.
hahaha!
Sometimes, bad is good. I approve.

Ditto!

What with November here (where has this year gone!) I started thinking about my "best of" list for the year. This album will definitely be in the top two or three for me. Absolutely love it.
First heard the Black Keys here on RP. But only recently they caught my attention, great GREAT band!!
And it probably has been said a million times here, but the cover is very original, cool!
AGREED!
Can't beat PIL with "Album/Cassette/Compact Disc/Poster" aka the generic label.
Lookin' forward to it!
EDIT: 6 —-> 7 think I may need to consider picking up this album!
