Problem solved. My hard drive was damaged. Apparently the thingie that writes to the drive was contacting it and damaging sectors left and right. I take back all the horrible things I said about Vista. Well, not really.

Ouch, that is NEVER a good thing.  Backup and backup QUICKLY!  I speak from personal experience with hard drives and data loss.  I had an external 300GB Segate drive, and the thin failed on me.  10 years of mp3s, vacation pictures, and other useless but entertaining junk I collected over the years were gone (a quarter of a TB worth of data).  Luckily I had temporarily copied the data also to a friend's drive, and he still had a majority of my stuff.

Having an external HD is handy though, but also make copies of your data onto optical discs too, for redundancy.  Preferably high quality archival discs.

Yes, I'm running GDMFV. That would make sense because nothing runs correctly with Vista. Even Vista doesn't run correctly with itself. My new Dell/Vista machine is the slowest, crashiest, most unreliable computer I've ever used. Thanks, Microsoft!

Wow — I feel lucky in that, when I got a Dell about 8 months ago, they said go with XP because it would be networked with an existing XP box. Sad to hear Vista is still cruddy.

Are you running on GDMFVista?

I've had the same problem with Winamp. And not just for streaming content. Even the stuff that's on my drives won't play for more than 1/3 -1or2 songs before crapping out. It started after the next-to-last update I got. I'just keep waiting for them to fix whatever conflict with GDMFVista is almost certainly the problem.

Working fine for me.

have you installed any other audio software lately, something that might have messed with a dll winamp needs?

If it were me I'd listen to the 64K AAC feed—same bandwidth, higher quality.

No, but when I uninstalled it (before downloading the new version) there were a couple of dll files the computer couldn't find to uninstall.

I've used the 64k AAC feed too, but I'd still like to run it through Winamp.

I've been using Winamp 64k MP3 to listen to RP and it's been chugging along just fine for ages. All of a sudden, it doesn't work. I started getting a failure message with red type which then reduced the window to a tiny version, then I started getting a Windows warning box stating that Winamp has stopped working, and it closes Winamp. Happened sometimes, then every time. So I upgraded to v5.4whateveritisnow and got the same result. In the interim I'm using Octoshape/Windows Media, but I liked Winamp, with the tickers and popups and suchlike. Anybody know what happened, and how to fix it?
