One more update for what is becoming my own personal change log about my phone -

I've upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5, and now GSplayer is working with the normal RP links. I've just saved them as a .m3u playlist but it works fine. I still think it was a regisry change instead of something in 6.5 vs. 6.1 but I don't have the time/skill/luck to diff them out and see what happened.

The 128 and 192 links work, and the sound is great using the 3G network. It also works with WiFi.

I just noticed that gsplayer supports the mp4/aac with a plugin. I'll try to load that up this evening and see if it works properly with the 64K AAC stream.

I have the same phone and was using tcpmp successfully for a while. I loaded a new ROM a couple months ago to get some other bluetooth stuff working, and tcpmp started skipping after that (not sure if it was related). 

I started using gsplayer a couple weeks ago (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/) and it works a lot better. But you can't use the front page redirecting links, you have to pick a direct stream address like - http://scfire-dtc-aa01.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1048 . I haven't sussed out exactly why yet though - it should work either way. The quality is much better, and it doesn't seem to impact battery life that much.

Windows Media player will only play AAC/AAC+ streams when coupled with the Orban plug-in, which isn't available (as far as I know) for Windows Mobile, even if your phone will allow you to install software.  Mobile versions of WMP also seem to be pretty brain-dead as far as choosing the proper bitrate. I don't have any idea how to force WMP to bump the bitrate up, which would probably be your best bet for halfway decent sound.

If your phone will allow you to install 3rd-party software, you might google around for a player that supports AAC.

I just recently acquired a HTC touch diamond, running windows mobile 6.1. I can listen to RP via the "64k AAC+ Windows Media (*)" link, but it sounds awful - mediaplayer actually says "12kbit" on the display (same goes for the "64k/20k Windows Media" link. when I click the "64k AAC+" link, it just prompts me to save the .m3u file, without any chance to open it later in either the WMP or the touchflo media player.

Is there any chance to get a high quality AAC stream played on this device ? is there any free player availabe that just plays an AAC stream without any hassles ?

ps: otherwise, the HTC touch diamond is a great device ! at least comparable to the iPhone, if not better.
