On this topic, I'm listening to a 128k stream with FStream, but instead of displaying the song name and artist, it displays 'Commercial Free Listener-Supported....' as the title and 'Radio Paradise' as the artist.  Is that deliberate, or accidental, and can I do anything to change it?

That's a result of software design choices made by the radio manufacturer, and is out of our control.  The only metadata that's updated by us on an ongoing basis is the song artist & title. The station description (the long redundant string of information you're talking about) is sent just once by the stream server when you first tune in. We're not going to omit that (it's used by many directories, for one thing) just to make up for poor radio design.

Address this question to the department of redundancy department.

I have a Logik IR-100 Internet Radio (based on the Reciva chipset) which has the ability to display the metadata being broadcast by internet stations, but it isn't quite as useful as it should be! The problem is that as well as the name of the artist and track, there follows about half a minute's worth of totally redundant information about RP including the URL of the homepage.

I say redundant because firstly this information can only be useful to a listener when they very first tune to the station. Thereafter it doesn't tell the listener anything they don't already know.

Secondly, after every four or five tracks we get station information anyway including often the URL and an exhortation to go to it to find out more about RP.

What purpose is this information intended to serve, and does the value of this purpose outweigh the hassle for the vast majority of listeners who already know everything it says and simply want to know what track is playing?

The reason I pose this question is that I find it a real nuisance when I want to know what track is playing and I have to stop whatever I am doing and wait, looking at the radio, until all of the redundant information has streamed through. Then I get a very short opportunity to see what the track and artist are before the redundant information starts again. This is not a well-thought-out feature in my view!
