Dodge. You made it clear long ago that you do not like merit based anything when we discussed immigration. Especially when it came to immigration. You're an open border, DEI guy.
.
rgio is the one who had three family members arrive on the Mayflower. He is the extra special one. My family got here 20 years later in Kennebunkport, Maine. I'm just trailer trash.
Again - since you are slow on the uptake: merit based is fine if we all start from the same place. Support is fine too, because I want to live in a pleasant society, where we don't let our brothers starve in the streets when there is no famine.
And sorry, can't keep track of your entitlements. You have birthright access to California surf spots? Or is it just cut any line you want if there are immigrants ahead of you?
We should have closed the borders right then and there.
For the record, all according to my sister who tracks this stuff, we're descended from 3 Mayflower arrivers. The number of Mayflower descendants in the US is (I think) around 20 million. Special is only a slight embellishment.
Still puts you in the <10% range. And it justifies you taking over kurtser's house of you want it.

go back to the old ways ? You mean like when this country was a Meritocracy ? Hell yes !!!! You have made it clear that you are steadfastly opposed to merit based systems.
Ha! You're the one who steadfastly makes some oddball claim of eminent domain based on the fact you can trace your lineage to the mayflower or some such nonsense. How the hell is that 'merit based'. I want everyone to have the same opportunity and the same level of support. Which idea has more basis in merit?

Pity my narrow-mindedness. I can live with that better.
That's it ?
At least let me know if I got the part right where I guessed that you identify with the author and identify me with the subject and believe that the description of the subject would be accurate as far as I am concerned ?
I am so glad I saw this and read it before responding to anything else above.
Really ? You identify with the author and identify me with the subject ?
While you may liken yourself to the author, I in no way resemble the subject. I guess you base that assumption upon associating me with my thoughts about chemtrails and take it from there.
I don't know if I should be insulted or pity your narrow mindedness.

they are threatened and want to 'go back to the old ways'.
They want that because that is where they had freedom to exercise their unfair advantage. This country needs to be great again. We need to go back to the place where we shared the largess to help those that were less fortunate. Where we believed in a public common that we all paid for. Where we had facilities and resources for people that were crazy and or homeless and or drug addicted (we could probably stand to improve those facilities, but they were better than a tent under the freeway). Now we just give breaks to billionaires who don't need them so they can horde more instead of giving back. They have no intention of working together, just taking anything that is offered and then grabbing what they can. They have no intention of playing fair or working in good faith. If it's not their game, they don't want to play.

When it comes down to it, people like you are fine calling yourself democratic but only when your party gets to call the shots., but you all gol bat-shit crazy when some other party gets to say something. You might want to do a little soul-searching on that one day.
You're getting very close to the heart of the matter. They aren't pro democracy, they are pro 'whatever keeps them in the superior position'. They never really believed all that 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' stuff, but it was a fanciful yarn they could tell while sitting comfortably on the platform everyone else was trying to pull up on. But now that others have figured it out, and are starting to make their own way, they are threatened and want to 'go back to the old ways'. They want that because that is where they had freedom to exercise their unfair advantage. This country needs to be great again. Srsly. I'm done with it. Give me Nikki Haley, Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney or any other of a number of Republicans you have managed to keep at least a semblance of their integrity, but get outta here with this Trump bullshit.
Donât forget the guy who was our Ambassdor to China - appointed by Democrat Obama. He might be usefulâ¦
procedural grounds ... It is what is called Due Process here in this country and it is one of the most important Constitutional rights and guarantees.
And everyone is entitled to it no matter who it is, regardless of what has been accused.
You may wonder why that is so important. You can do your own investigation if you are unsure of its importance.
Maybe steeler can offer guidance on the importance of Due Process being our resident legal expert.
oh jeepers, Kurtster. I live next to a judge. My son is studying law. I even did a year of law myself back in the day.
If Trumps gets off the hush money case for due process, good for him. Doesn't change a thing about the substance of the case for you or me, which is what I was referring to:
Try harder to convince me, this guy is a good guy who has the best interests of democracy at heart, you know, observing the law, upholding the constitution, fighting the good fight against tyrants and mobsters, upholding individual rights, that kind of thing.
For me the evidence is overwhelming that he is doing his best to damage faith in the U.S. political system and foment civil unrest, maybe even, who knows, an insurrection or two.. which is right in line with the FSB playbook to undermine democracy. His ruse to withhold U.S. aid for Ukraine sealed the deal for me. The guy is a traitor and a national threat, and whether you like it or not, he's working in the best interests of Russia. Just like Tucker Carlson is now doing, after getting booted from Fox News.
Thankfully, enough Republican congressmen, even Mike Johnson, understood this in time and came to reason before Ukraine fell.
But anyone still supporting Trump now is a traitor to democracy in my view. It's pretty black and white.
So you want Trump to rule? Fine, but please pin the badge of feudalism right next to whatever MAGA merch you care to wear. You are free to support whatever political outfit you wish, just don't try adorning yourself with "constitution", "democracy" or even anything vaguely related to what the War of Independence was all about, because you are in boots and all behind a wannabe king/dictator and seem hell bent on taking the nation straight back to the Dark Ages.
When it comes down to it, people like you are fine calling yourself democratic but only when your party gets to call the shots., but you all gol bat-shit crazy when some other party gets to say something. You might want to do a little soul-searching on that one day.

As for Trump, you can argue about policy, rhetoric...but what you cannot argue or excuse is what happened post-Nov 2020 election.
That unequivocally made him unelectable except for the selfish, narcissistic or unconscious types.
And I will direct you to this thread in regards to your thoughts above.
I posted it elsewhere: this race is close enough that itâs worth trying to convince the fence-sitters or the superficially attached that they shouldnât put the nation, again, into the hands of someone who has a history of poor management, treating his employees and colleagues unfairly, and is self-aggrandizing, treasonous, nepotistic, racist, and encourages violence between other Americans.
True, there are folks on both sides who have made up their minds, but there are also those who realize that, today, they donât have to behave as they did yesterday.
Oh, absolutely, I understand.
And I dont mean shrug , and say nothing can be done...but it seems we have the same 1/2 dozen characters here beating each other over the head.
Had the same experience with a text group after trump was elected, eventually abandoned any political talk and left it for discussion on dogs, music and family.

The DOJ is not being neutral in this matter. It is clearly acting on Biden's behalf and under his direct supervision and coordination.
Oh, and what's your source for this? "Trump says so"... well say no more.
You must be the poster boy for "Stupid".
Yea, Trump tried to use his power and influence to bend the DOJ to his will as prez so obviously Biden must be doing the same.
Hey how about this for a crazy, out-of-the-box idea and I'm just spit-ballin' here...
Maybe Trump should not have engaged in acts that are indictable? Isn't that a wild concept? If he kept his nose clean, he wouldn't be in any courtroom right now and would be free to incoherently rant at any rally in any State right now.
Trump is a propaganda machine. He spews it. His supporters regurgitate it. Repetition is propagandaâs sharpest tool. It is dangerous to leave unchallenged these propagandistic claims and assertions. It is critical not to cede the field to these people, even when the field is a small one, such as this.
Yep. This is why it's not just an exercise in pig wrestling. If you just shake your head and walk away, then others in the quiet middle ground might think there is something reasonable in the crazy postings. This is why Kurtster and crew insist on spewing to a 'hostile' audience - they know they won't sway the people they are talking to, they hope to sway those watching.
