Dang, Bill & Rebecca - you're on a roll this morning! Playing every song I need to hear today. 
This song just isn't quite the same without the outstanding music video. Still solid. Noel Gallagher's voice really suited the Chemical Brothers.
I was hired to do a story for Professional Sound on these guys. I was to meet at the sound board during the show to get some of the technical story with photos and then an interview later.
I was on the media list (only one for the actual that show) and when I went to the mix position, the security guy pretty much dragged me out of the venue.
Never a dull moment in the music biz and the feature article I was hired to do was likely the 'thinnest' 2800 words I ever wrote for the magazine.

while may not sounding exactly timeless - neverthless this is a true masterpiece - as a lot of the other stuff jeff lynne did. if there wouldnt be the beatles people would really more appreciate the composing and arranging skills this man owns. and his singing is quite great too.

This was part of the theme-tune to my undergraduate years of loving life and partying hard with a world of possibilities ahead of me, despite the lyrics. Strange to listen to it now whilst I read about the rise of populism out of the neoliberal dream and a general slide towards fascist values in the west. Glad I partied when I had the chance.

"How does it feel like" using English in an intelligible way? Seriously, how would this song been in anyway changed or diminished by using "what" instead of "how" and not having it sound like someone who had never experienced English first hand had written it. It grates on me like finger nails on a chalk board, the chalk board these dorks obviously never paid any attention to.

Nah, that's a different drum beat; maybe it's sampled, but not from that tune. It's blatantly obvious they were mimicking The Beatles on this tune - they weren't trying to hide it.

Geesh. There are LOTS of songs I love that contain horrible grammar ("Touch Me" by The Doors and "Grace for Saints and Ramblers" by Iron & Wine quickly come to mind). But if that's your only criterion to judge a song, I feel sorry for you.
That said: I saw the Chemical Brothers at Woodstock '99... what a FANTASTIC live show!

Actually it would change it quite it a bit. As the first and most emphasized word in the much repeated phrase which is also extended in length, "How" is open phonetically making it a better word for such use. "Wha"t is closed at the end forcing the extented length to be on the short "a" vowel sound, which is less pleasent to hear at length then the "w" of "how". Grammatically a mess, but better sounding. i liked this when the Beatles did it (and called it "Tomorrow Never Knows") but it's too much strain on my soul to like Oasis, even when hiding behind the Chemical Brothers.
Big fan of psychedelia here to tell ya this one is a near miss.
