Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope with this heavy load
Trying to touch and reach you
With heart and soul

OM, my Lord
Please, take hold of my hand
That I might understand you

Won't you please
Oh, won't you
Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope with this heavy load
Trying to touch and reach you
With heart and soul

OM, my Lord

Won't you please
Oh, won't you
Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope with this heavy load
Trying to touch and reach you
With heart and soul

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me, keep me free from birth
Now, give me hope
Help me cope with this heavy load
Trying to touch and reach you
With heart and soul

OM, my Lord

It's just you.
While each was individually talented, all together it was magic.

No, it was released in mid-1973. I bought it when it first came out ... yes, this is 50-year-old music.
Best vocalist of the Beatles.
Of blessed memory is this man.

That seems wrong (or simply uninformed) on the face of it.  I recommend that people locate and watch the recent (March 2023) PBS documentary The Movement and the Madman, which -- among other things -- explains the huge impact that hippie protesters had on the Viet Nam war and maybe in averting WWIII (for a while longer, at least).

Jet -- an underrated band with three great albums (though no one knows about the 2nd and 3rd ones) -- has a song talking about how the hippies failed to change a thing.  They are SO WRONG and really need to watch this documentary, then write a follow-up that acknowledges things.
I still believe George was the Beatles' 'Secret Sauce'...

I take exception to this narrow frame of mind.  There are some  hippies still working in Computer Science.   I am one of them.
I love it! A  guilt-free karmically-clean free pass to the JOY of George's amazingly chill Future-Mind...
You're a flippin' Beatle. The world at your feet. And you maintain your version of a spirituality that keeps you sane, keeps your sense of wry humor intact, and lets you be creative until it's time to meet your maker.

You can't make a story like that up.
Wait, this song is only from 2012? Is that correct?
That just got me through the rest of this day. Soothing, melodic, and sublime...

Love George. The spiritual Beatle.

I think about this, periodically. The folks who were young in the 60s-70s, the ones that shouted to not trust anyone over thirty - they're all The Establishment now and what did they do with that responsibility, that idealism?
They dropped the ball and became hypocrites, most of them.

I Want To Tell You that there's just Something about how his Guitar Gently Weeps that resonates Within You and Without You and is as comfortable as an Old Brown Shoe.  It can even get you to forget about the Taxman.

Just my opinion, though.

Finding their music "unpleasant"  or "unlistenable" is one matter, but The Beatles were neither "tone-deaf" nor "out of tune".

8 down to 6
So The Beatles, who were ruling the world, could have any man/woman they chose, any drug they wanted, any politician in their pocket...

and Harrison remains grounded, humble, and spiritual. What a feat. What a great tune. These were complex times and for h im to be such a centering force for the Fabs was no small thing.
Fat chance now!
Then gimme the key please.

Sounds to me as if you are discussing two different kinds of overconsumption here. DrLex seems to talk about collective overconsumption, i.e. not enough earth for all these people to live on, so collectively human kind overconsumes the resources offered by the planet. The others here seem to talk about overconsumption by an individual.

..DrLex is incorrect..population density doesn't correspond to over-consumption..our personal

..it's possible to be population-dense & still consume with consideration..it's just that we opt

..while a population center hasn't yet been proven to be consuming-neutral, it's mostly because

George Harrison - Give Me Love (Live in Japan)

George Harrison - "Bangladesh",  Live 1971

George Harrison performing "Bangladesh" during the concert for Bangladesh at 1971, Madison Square Garden.

MAGIC!

My friend came to me, with sadness in his eyes
He told me that he wanted help
Before his country dies

Although I couldn't feel the pain, I knew I had to try
Now I'm asking all of you
To help us save some lives

Bangla Desh, Bangla Desh
Where so many people are dying fast
And it sure looks like a mess
I've never seen such distress
Now won't you lend your hand and understand
Relieve the people of Bangla Desh

Bangla Desh, Bangla Desh
Such a great disaster - I don't understand
But it sure looks like a mess
I've never known such distress
Now please don't turn away, I want to hear you say
Relieve the people of Bangla Desh
Relieve Bangla Desh

Bangla Desh, Bangla Desh
Now it may seem so far from where we all are
It's something we can't neglect
It's something I can't neglect
Now won't you give some bread to get the starving fed
We've got to relieve Bangla Desh
Relieve the people of Bangla Desh
We've got to relieve Bangla Desh
Relieve the people of Bangla Desh

Overconsumption is just a consequence of overpopulation. Above a certain population density, it becomes impossible to survive without overconsuming.

Would you rather have a massive amount of people who constantly need to live on the edge, with an imminent risk of disaster when something unexpected disturbs the fragile equilibrium, or a reasonable amount of people who can all enjoy a life without draconian restrictions and with enough leeway when things don't go as planned?
Except for abiding to our insatisfiable instinct to procreate, there is no advantage whatsoever in endlessly increasing the population.

Not quite the same issue as over population but related.  This is an indication that some peoples are shrinking and in risk of disappearing not that over population is resolved (not sure if that's what you meant but that's how I read your post).

Over Population is still arguably the biggest issue the planet is facing.

If you examine the original artwork and album materials that came with this LP, its pretty obvious that this is what he's getting at. George was a devotee of Sri Krishna, and the LP contains painting of the famous Krishna chariot scene from the Bhagavad Gita. The lyrics express a weariness of the world and its burdens—faith and devotion to a Sacred Person enables that person to be freed from samsara through grace.

Great joke concealed in the bottom back of the album cover. Its a messsage advertising a fan club for G.H.—almost an exact parody of the language on a then-recent Paul McCartney and Wings album cover.- It asks the listener to send a self-addressed stamped elephant.

Listening to the guitar intro and it occurred to me how very very unique his sound was. There was nobody else it could have been. I only mention it because I guess when I was younger, the Beatles were: John: The deep guy... man can he write a song Paul: The happy musical genius with an awesome hook Ringo: The clown... a fun guy if you met him (I guessed) George: Um... he plays guitar for them right? He was (relatively) quiet, unassuming, and I had absolutely no idea what a huge influence he was on the treasure that was the Beatles. Only now, when he's gone, have I started to appreciate this. What can I say, I'm often late to the party :)
Quite sublime
