Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight
Preacher man don't tell me,
Heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know
What life is really worth
It's not all that glitters is gold
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, eh!
You stand up for your right
Come on!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight
Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight
Most people think
Great God will come from the sky,
Take away everything
And make-a everybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth,
You will look for yours on earth
And now you see the light,
You stand up for your rights, jah!
Get up, stand up (Jah, jah)
Stand up for your right (Oh, hoo)
Get up, stand up (Get up, stand up)
Don't give up the fight (Life is your right)
Get up, stand up (So we can't give up the fight)
Stand up for your right (Lord, Lord)
Get up, stand up (Keep us struggling on)
Don't give up the fight, yeah
We sick an' tired of your ism-skism game
Dyin' 'n' goin' to heaven in-a Jesus' name, Lord
We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes,
But you can't fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light (What you gonna do?)
We gonna stand up for our rights (Yeah, jah, jah!)
So you better
Get up, stand up (In the morning, get it up)
Stand up for your right (In the night)
Get up, stand up
Don't give up the fight (Don't give it up, don't give it up)
Get up, stand up (Get up, stand up)
Stand up for your right (Get up, stand up)
Get up, stand up (Don't be a nigger in your neighborhood, yeah)
Don't give up the fight (Get up, stand up)
Get up, stand up (I don't think that should be very good, Lord) (Get up, stand up)
Stand up for your right (Get up, stand up)
Get up, stand up (I said, don't be a nigger in your neighborhood, yeah)
Don't give up the fight
You can fool some people sometimes
Bob Marley sang in support and hope for those from his "perceived rank" and to others from a "perceived upper caste" at the same time in hopes of building sensitivity, mutual respect and love between all. What is more "Godlike"? 10
One of the greatest memories of my life was when I was an impoverished student in the late 70's and I walked past the concert hall in Glasgow one evening bitterly regretting I did not have the money to attend the Bob Marley concert that everyone was queing for. I walked disconcertedly toward the bus station passed the side of the concert hall when I spied a fire door slightly ajar. I stepped through and gropped my way in the darkness up a staircase until at the top I found myself above the stage. I traveressed a gangway across the top able to see the gathering audience below through a grill. I came to a stairwell at the other side and gingerly descended until I came to a door out of which burst a Rasta trailing a cloud of marajuana smoke. I could see members of the band sitting inside getting high. I followed the rasta out of a set of double doors onto the upper teir of the concert hall where a bouncer was preventing people getting in, but didn't prevent me from walking past him as I was coming out. I then proceeded to enjoy the whole concert dancing in the aisles. Unforgettable.
You are definitely part of the Revolution.
Someone should tell that to astronaut Jeff Bezos...
"... you can't fool all the people all the time"
We'll see about that in November.
get up stand up don't give up the fight
I am intimately familiar with both songs and cannot remotely see a connection between them.
....other than they are both great tunes.

May I translate? "Get up, stand up, move away, clear your seat as soon as you 'ave finished your pizza."
Never mind, Toni, nix für ungut
You see, the press in the USA seems to 'love' our royal parasites more than we do by some considerable margin.
Here in the U.S. we have our own useless, parasitic quasi-monarchy that the press seems to love just as much - called the Bush and Clinton clans.
Loving Robert Nesta Marley too many good memories to mention.
The Police brings back my teenage years thanks for the set.
Every now and then, perhaps on a Summer night, sitting outdoors, with a beer in hand, I can take one.
But play two in a row, and I'm looking for a way to stop the madness.
I'm sure this opinion will go over like a lead balloon in this forum.
Oh well.
I understand you, I wouldn't go as far as using the term "loath" but I can't stand it and totally agree with this "madness" you're mentioning. Reggae tends to make me aggressive as I feel it's drowning me in a lethargy or apathy, that it's filling me with sleepy, weak and empty energy. A song is already too much to listen to !
Very cool anecdote.

Anyway, great song, shame his career/life ended so early.
You are an enigma Mr. Fart. Why on earth are you getting up and standing up for the monarchy now? What is the principle there I wonder.
It goes fine thanks. You would be surprised how many British people are opposed to having a (German reptile family) Monarchy, but with the lack of a real alternative and their being so imbedded in our Land it is difficult to see how we could get rid of them save someone killing the lot of them in one go. . . rather like a badger cull.
You see, the press in the USA seems to 'love' our royal parasites more than we do by some considerable margin.
Which fits in nicely with Bob's Lyrics. . . I for one will Get Up Stand Up and oppose the unnecessary takeover of our Land by a common family who pronounce themselves our rulers. Fuck the lot of them.
Did not know you are (such a ) revolutionary!

What? You seriously believe that? FFS I despair.
By the way. . . why to you think one never hears about the USA as being the land of the free anymore?
(Oh and Mr Ray does not live in England, please keep up)
Poacher: How goes it in the Monarchy? Have you sucked a nice big fat fart out of the queen's ass today!
It happened a dozen times or so. Our government came to their senses and realized it was wrong. They haven't done it sincee. Democracy isn't always pretty but it is the best of all the alternatives.
How's that British police state treating you?

And yes, Tosh, I love his verse. What voice. With Bob, what a full-fueled band. Solid.
Standing up for your rights in Jamaica is one thing
but try to do the same in USA - the land of the free.
WATERBOARDING - if you are lucky!
Don't give up the fight, Julian!

This song is soooo good for the ears... and the heart...

Why do you say something like this? You know it is not true, at least you should.
