Scar tissue that I wish you saw
Sarcastic mister know it all
Close your eyes and I'll kiss you 'cause
With the birds I'll share
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view
Push me up against the wall
Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra
Fallin' all over myself
To lick your heart and taste your health 'cause
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view...
Blood loss in a bathroom stall
Southern girl with a scarlet drawl
Wave good-bye to ma and pa 'cause
With the birds I'll share
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view
Soft spoken with a broken jaw
Step outside but not to brawl
Autumn's sweet we call it fall
I'll make it to the moon if I have to crawl and
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view...
Scar tissue that I wish you saw
Sarcastic mister know it all
Close your eyes and I'll kiss you 'cause
With the birds I'll share

I never liked RHCP. I just don’t feel their vibe. I’m glad others do, tho.

Kiedis has a lovely voice when he actually sings instead of chanting, but I agree with you. RHCP's lyrics can be pretty dopey and the whole "dani California" thing slides into hipster doofus territory.
Not a bad song to hear today, though!

Yes, this is an incredible song from a magnificent album... this song is about a person with problems that other people do not understand, and the protagonist is consequently very lonely... check out the video of this song... everybody in my hotel room loves this song... we be dancing like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners... hope you are having a very nice time as we approach a nude year, GuiltyFeat... love Radio Paradise soooo much!!
I still have no idea what he's wittering on about, but I find this glorious and mesmerizing.

my fave band that may have gone to the darkside and since frushiante left a god himself this song is still etched in my gym playlist and a god like 10

I have seen them live a few times but then you notice that the singer lacks skills. They made a few good songs but I would not call this band a live band.
Joy! They will play at Roskilde Festival next summer 2016. Makes me glad.

Love this group back in the 80s, and still love them any day to give a listen to :)
Nice!

Yeah, I'm still not convinced that "singing badly" conveys the message you're ascribing here.
What people do not understand is that the chorus is deliberately ambiguous— it describes scar tissue that people cannot understand... the key word is "lonely"— if nobody else can understand the scar tissue, then it is an existential burden of isolation for an individual with some disabling injury that other people cannot understand...
"Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic Mr. Know-It-All..."
what they are saying is that it is impossible for strong and healthy and happy people to understand what life is like for somebody who is suffering from an injury others can neither see nor understand...
the haunting melody of the music is a perfect match for the tragic meaning of the lyrics... this really is a brilliant song, even though many people don't understand the meaning and cannot see the scar tissue...

On this album you can really hear them trying to introduce the concept of melody into their work. Soooo close!
Sounds like they figured it out at the writing end, now if only their vocalist could sing one.
I thought this was supposed to be a rock band? Someone please tell Anthony that he really does not have the voice to carry ballads. Basically he's really irritating. BORING!!!!

EVERYBODY IN MY HOMELESS CAMPS LOVES THIS SONG...

You should hear him sing with just acoustic guitars (a la at The Bridge concerts hosted by Neil Young). He's terrible! Nice guy, though, if that counts for anything.

Summed up perfectly. I, too, wish they would bring back the funk.
However, standing on its own and not in comparison to their ealrier, better stuff, I still give "Scar Tissue" a 7.
Rick Rubin convinced the Peppers they could so ballads and now they can't stop.

I am a huge RHCP fan, but cmon, basically all this pop crap off of Californication sucks. BRING BACK THE FUNK, and RP, get your hands on some Blood SUgar Sex Magik singles, cause this stuff is just crap! Hopefully their next album will be better, as it will be their second album in a row with John Frusciante,as was Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and can really feel the connection the band has during that one.
let's try some hillel and freaky styley.....some of the best, rawest music ever recorded
Saw them live in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, over a month ago (60.000 people!!!). They lacked the spirit they used to have; they were just 4 guys doing their job, but still: this song is so mellow.....
Didn\'t I just hear this same voice on the previous song?
I always thought they\'d be a great band with a different singer.

It's a shame, really. I used to love the freshness and funkiness of early RHCP. Something about their grooves just made me want to jump around. Unfortunately, the beginning of the end for RHCP perhaps came from their most radio-friendly hit, Under the Bridge. It seems that the Peppers decided after Under the Bridge, they they woudl try to emulate that success on a multitude of other songs, including Scar Tissue. They are all just retreads of the same sounds.
Bring back the funk, Peppers, and not for just one or two songs from a double CD. Bring back the funk, socks and all.

Saw these guy's in their early stages at a concert called Pink Pop in Holland. (Mid to late 80's? things are foggy..) The attire was a sock on the schawnz.. alot of fans as well. As far as I can remember I didn't follow suit!
I like the way the line runs up the back of the stockings. I've always liked those kind of high heels too. You know, I... No no no no, don't take 'em off, don't take... Leave 'em on, leave 'em on.
there is way better RHCP songs to play on RP. I would have gone for something more funky but funk and RP don't seem to get along.

There's something about how this guy sings that makes me want to tear my ears out with razor blades. Sorry, but I just do not get the appeal. The musicianship is fine, but until they land a new lead singer I will stay far from the RHCP.
I am so with you there! Except I'm not crazy about any of it. I think your comments are a bit kind.

BILL!!!!
WHY!? oh god WHY!?!?
this song is so damn commercial it makes me puke. they overplayed this on XFM in vancouver a few years back. i liked it then, until it drove me nuts.
the peppers make me nuts now. eugh.

Sounds like Californication, only more irritating, if that were even possible. At least this one seems to be a bit less repetitive.
I'd thought that Hootie and the Blowfish had taken "slobbering over microphone so that lyrics are incomprehensible mush" to its apogee, but this group is not far behind . . . .
Thank you to Angelus for citing amiright.com . . . My favorite mondegreen is "There's a bathroom on the right."
My favorite (that I first heard it as) is \"with the purple shade it\'s a lonely view\". I like the image of a sad guy, trying to be the life of the party with a lamp shade on his head, being shunned by the other party-goers.
I found it nice to hear the Peppers put forward their songwriting skills instead of mainly jam and do their groove \"thang\". Wouldn\'t call that popcrap.
\"With the birds I\'ll share it\'s a lonely view\"?

??
Oh, must you?
