Native these words seem to me
All speech directed to me
I've heard them once before
I know that feeling

Stranger emotions in mind
Changing the contours I find
I've seen them once before
Someone cries to me

Oh, the look and the sound of the voice
They try, they try
Oh, the shape and the power of the voice
In strong low tones

Forceful and twisting again
Wasting the perfect remains
I've felt it once before
Slipping over me

Oh, the look and the sound of the voice
They try, they try
Oh, the shape and the power of the voice
In strong low tones

Sweetly the voices decay
Draw on the lines that they say
I'd lost it once before
Now it cries to me

Oh, the look and the sound of the voice
They try, they try
Oh, the shape and the power of the voice
In strong low tones

Oh, the look and the power of the voice
They try
Oh, the shape and the sound of the voice
In strong low tones

I'm afraid that means nothing to me...

Maybe not everyone's deal, but I always dug that Midge Ure delivered with passion...

faded out after about 90s again 6/12/22.  BillG?

Yea!  Magically fixed by 6/29/22.  It's one of my favorite from the Ultravox records I own, too.  Nice to hear the whole song.

Yup - faded out for me too - twice (after restarting it again), streaming on Sonos.

Aaaah...Ultavox. In the late 70´s, early 80´s, a teenager with pretentions, (and sideburns of a sort), had "semi- official" night access to the Crysalis studios just off Oxford Street. I was the nightshift´s "pet" but I didn’t care, I had made it! I would roam the rooms looking for thrown away “Demos” and, If I had been lucky, there might have been a party that afternoon.

Strewn over beer and white wine drenched tables there would be trays half full of fancy hors d'oeuvres and half glasses of Brown ale. I first ate real caviar over tiny damp crackers in those smoke laden dens...oh the joy! On one of my trips, I found a shirt and a pair of almost complete Ray-ban sunglasses in the bin. The shirt had a blue and yellow exploding pineapple printed on it and I was told that it had been abandoned by a member of ULTRAVOX! I could only dream of what those parties were like! I promptly scoffed down my handful of soggy crackers and made off with my prize! I wore the shirt until it turned into threads, and I still have the sunglasses! Thank you Ultravox, I am the man I am today because of the heritage you left behind.

This is one of those songs where you hear the synth riff and it can ONLY be 1983-1984.

Nice segue from Arriving Somewhere...
It's hard to overlook Ultravox when looking at New Romantics and the beginnings of synth pop. The "Quartet" album is very good indeed...
What a gorgeous song.
aw c'mon you guys - this was a great album in it's day - it's maybe a bit dated in terms of synth sounds I don't think they took themselves as seriously as it sounds - it's called theatre I liked Midge's vox too
Let me be a second vote for Dancing with Tears in my Eyes, or anything else from that album. Suddenly I'm 16 again listening to them on my ancient Walkman at Live Aid!

I thought this was "Dancing with Hot Pokers in My Ears?" No?

yes, but this one goes to 11!
I think this was the first music video I ever saw -- on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert around 1979. Made quite an impact on me. Have loved the band ever since.
I once left the radio on when I went to bed, and woke up at 2AM to Ultravox: Reap the Wild Wind. And my life was changed for the better. I finally got it.
STOP IT
Very pleased to hear this song on RP! Agree wholeheartedly with the comment that Ultravox deserve a place here. Well done, Bill.
I have no problem with Ultravox, but they sure took themselves Very Seriously, didn't they? I've always liked the Systems Of Romance album (when John Foxx was the lead singer).

Well, if we're voting, let me stick in my two bits for "Reap the Wild Wind" or "Love's Great Adventure".

is Bill punishing us for a bad RP support month by playing this?
... Leave it on playlist Bill, it's a good change and Ultravox are worthy of a spot ...

Man, saw these guys live - back in 1984 - Rainbow Theater, London. Some great tracks - this is middle-of-the-road. What was the name of their 'major hit'? at least in the UK... :D
"Vienna". Often cited on the subject of singles that got to no.2, prevented from reaching no.1 by some incredibly naff novelty record. In this case, "Shaddap a You Face" by Joe Dolche, an Australian pretending to be Italian.
I can picture a mini Stonehenge descending from the ceiling onto the stage as this song plays.
Yeah. This song blows. I keep telling myself to turn it down. Now "Vienna" I could stand... Strik wrote:

YES. Was hoping for some more Ultravox after "Vienna" cropped up the other day...

Always preferred the very early Ultravox, before John Foxx left. But that sounds even more \"80s\" so I\'m sure it would drive some folks even crazier. Hmmm... maybe I\'ll have to upload some. :p

yaay cheezy 80s music once in awhile! and its not abc or spandau ballet!
It's a pleasant suprise hearing Ultravox in passing. Think I'll keep it that way. Good playing, especially from Midge Ure but, the band's lyrics were usually... let's say they weren't necessarily clever.
this is Spinal Tap territory. Sorry Midge. Please pass this cheese.
makes Flock of Seagulls sound like a good alternative.
Wow! You just blasted out some cobwebs. Thanks for the reminder, but I think I\'ll forget Ultravox existed again.
...I\'m wonderfully, thankfully reminded of the many reasons this band went away. I guess that\'s a positive review...
