Has to be up there amongst the greatest songs of the 90s. Surprised by the number of haters. Perhaps because it was massively overplayed back in the day which can get on some folks' nerves.

It shouldn't matter how many times I've heard this song and whether or not it's great or a classic. There was a point in my life where I was extremely sick of it, especially for how much MTV pushed them on us and then they became one hit wonders plus the untimely death of their lead singer.
But you know what, this is an "8" worthy song and I often catch myself singing the jingle long after I heard it. 30 years is enough time to forgive the constant rotation that this was once on.

I'm 16, I've just got my drivers license and I'm doing sound for a youth group that's visiting the area. They're from a few hours away and connected to the same group of churches so it's a bunch of teens mingling and doing standard church youth group stuff. And then they start some karaoke. One girl does Sinead O'Connors "nothing compares to you". If you don't know the song it starts with almost no instrumentation to get the vocals timed with the music. I have to rewind the tape twice as she misses the intro. She's super nervous but eventually gets through it. Remember, she's probably 15 or 16 years old. A very gutsy move. BUT.......... Here's the the Blind Melon connection. One guy walks up wearing the FULL BEE OUTFIT from the album cover. I've never seen the cover or heard the song before. All I see if this guy walking up in a BEE SUIT. I don't remember how the song went but this memory is forever linked to this song. I can't hear the song without picturing the bee suit. So, even though I'm not a big fan it still gets a 7 from me.
I admire people who are so anti "pop music" that they can not appreciate good music and musicianship.

I was on my 2nd trip to Korea while living in Japan, in Seoul, in the party and shopping district of Itae-won; very much like Shinjuku in its vibe; drinking and socializing in a makkoli dive-bar, when I heard and saw a band jamming this on the balcony of another bar across the street. Well, I took my party over there! An American ex-pat gal was singing, and she and her band nailed it! A fabulous, indelible memory -- thanks, always, RP!

Considering the times (90s), the overplaying and the chart/crossover success, this song has aged well.
Maybe I dismissed it some time ago. Maybe I'm listening with old ears now, maybe it's the history of the band and their vocalist.

My daughter ( the artist in the family ) used this song as a background tune to her documentary on the first birthday of our handicapped first born grandchild. It was so fitting. So it will always have a special place in my heart.

I'm with you on this one (like most really) CoJo...hell, I just went 8 → 9 on it - not many songs on RP that came out when I was in HS (91-95) that I like (I'm looking at you, grunge bands!) and as I've aged, or matured, the lyrical content of this one is way more important than I remember.

I remember it like it was a just a few years ago... time flies when we're having fun— As a result of the video for this song, DeLoach appeared on the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards, and reprised her Bee Girl dance (in full costume) in the video for "Weird Al" Yankovic's song "Bedrock Anthem"...

The night he died, he was playing at #s in Houston. We didn't know they were playing; we were looking forward just to going to our club to hang out for a bit.
