Sure. Quite obviously a "brilliant" guitarist but to me this is simply tedious. "Ho hum" would seem appropriate, but even I can't give it a number as low as "3". "Acceptable" it is. But I can see why people like it, it's very accomplished.

I note days in July. It's the month of my late parents' wedding anniversary, July 25. That is one day before the birth date of one of my favorite movie directors, Stanley Kubrick. And July 20 is the birthday of this here guitarist, born July 20, 1947. And I suppose that may be why Bill played it.

Like a Big Mac, you always know what to expect, and one day maybe that damn pickle won't catch in my throat, but that diddly-diddly twiddly bit close to the end is as predictable as any X-Factor key change, and that chocolate sauce at the bottom (!) of the ice cream is still as sickening! Simon! Muy bien. Carlos con sus hermanos. Ok, well I heard a story once from a Mexican, you know, a person born in Mexico, that is a musician and  told me that when Carlos was in his family's band in Mexico with his brother George, that they were invited to come to L.A. to do a test track but George couldn't get a visa or something and opted not to come to L.A.. At the time, George was the leader of their band, not Carlos. Interesting story, that I believe to be true.

Wouldn't  it be great if a band playing punk, thrash metal or gangsta rap took over a supermarket for a few hours? I know what you mean about submissiveness and complacency: all you have to do is look at the prepared "foods" and frozen "meals." I don't know what to make of Santana. A few of his albums from the 70s were brilliant but seemed to have lost popularity until "Supernatural." Some guitarists you'd think were Gods have limitations. There's a video on YouTube about the behind-the-scenes making of U2's "When Love Comes to Town", which they wrote for B.B. King. BB confides at one point, "You guys are gonna have to do the chords. I'm horrible at chords."

Well, I guess ignorance is bliss. 

I believe all that you say is true for you, but for me music is all of those things (tone, style, rhythm, etc.) and SO MUCH MORE.  I guess, more specifically, Santana's music ultimately does not move or engage me emotionally enough.  So, for me, it's missing some sort of magic.  I'm fine with being in the minority on this and will now return to my bliss.

This commercial sound kills everything good of this song.

There is definately something about that particular distortion sound so distinctive of the Santana miester that bores to tears.

Ok people, you have to have a little bit of latin blood in order to judge the quality of Carlos Santana's music! I had never heard of this album and I thought that I knew them all. What a magnificent album because it includes his brother George Santana that I have heard was really the original leader of the Santana family of musicians when they grew up in Mexico. The story goes that George, the leader, was about to take the group, that included his little brother Carlos, to Los Angeles to audition for a record company. George had problems with the police and couldn't enter the United States, so George stayed home in Mexico while Carlos went with the band and the rest is history, Carlos arrived in the USA and achieved huge success that enjoys to this day. How funny! Not.

 
Maybe you should help George's career out a little, and move across the border. Tongue Out
