A beautiful romance with an electric guitar
Thought it was Gary Moore till I realised that it was Carlos Santana.

I didn't recognize this as Santana at first. So different from the rather stagnant stuff that has become his trademark for the last few decades. And so good.
Who doesn't play air guitar with Carlos?

Growing up in the San Francisco bay area I probably saw Santana 15-20 times. When this song was played everyone would just pause and listen, then as the tempo grew, hips would start swaying, shoulders dipping, heads bobbing... damn, I wish I could go back and do it all again.
To ALL the negative commenters about Carlos below, surely thou art FUBAR.
Godlike!

Why didn't play this on the main channel for the last 30 days? I guess that's why I tend to listen to the eclectic mix mostly.
Wow, I thought to myself, listening to this. Flashback 40 odd years to the same reaction when I first heard this. Thanks Bill n Rebecca for jogging great memories.
I think this album came out when Carlos was exploring Hinduism/Buddhism.
Gee whiz, the man sets the air on fire.

Ok- go listen to any of the Devadip Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu John McLaughlin collaborations that you naysayin' clowns never bought or had the attention span to listen to. Then you can get back to us.

Brilliant but Gato Barbieri’s cover is a 10.
When we were 15, this song was always the last one on school dance. Ah, how romantic mood was in the air that time :-).
This is just true feelin grit to me. As with anything ymmv,

Well, is Carlos the Best guitarist the rock world has ever produced? No. But the guy has chops and is certainly inspired when he plays. He's produced many fine songs, although admittedly he's produced a few too many redundant "instrumentals". Nevertheless, to those who rock n' roll, he deserves a little respect. Those who don't, go pound sand.

Good point. If the passion comes through, it's still good art.
However, it can get boring.
Also, Jackson Pollack and Philip Glass were both original, groundbreaking and influential pioneers of style in what they created. I would not say that about Santana.

Relative to what? Is there substance to what you said, or is that a way of blowing off a slam to an artist that you may like?
When I say he needs to learn some new licks it's because he uses the same 15 structures when he solos (which is all the time). I think the man learned to play a few things on the guitar and asked his rhythm section to have fun doing what they wanted to while he played his same tired lead over the top of it.

All time favorite...Carlos is a God!!! And this song is even better when you are in the front row and you can see into Carlos' eyes when he is playing it and you can see his passion for the music up close and personal.
Everytime that this song is played by anyone, all I can hope for is that somewhere in the world, there is a couple exploring a state of rature together!!
great, beautiful tune, how can you complain, but we have all heard this a gazillion times - there is that fine line between a great old friend and a track worn thin by AOR radio. . . boy is this track close to that line. There are other tasty choices from the tracks less travelled though . .

Dicky Betts? Really now? Didnt he play along side one of the foremost slide guitarists of his time (Duane Allman) until Duane\'s unfortunate demise? At what point in Dicky Betts career was he learning from Carlos? Totally different musical styles and influences it seems. Same era of course but that\'s about where the similarity stops.

No you're not. I've seen him in several situations and always wished he was someone anyone else. Saw him in a tiny room with about 100 people. Colin Hay (remember him? Men at Work?) opened the show on acoustic. By the time Carlos got onstage, no one in the room cared at all. Colin might not be the artistic talent that Carlos is, but he is an entertainer. Carlos seems so cold compared to someone who actually tries to connect with his audience, like Colin.
I did see Carlos and Neil Young onstage together one time, and as they were playing, Carlos went over and grabbed Neil's guitar and showed him the chord. That was pretty funny.Love this song but definitely prefer the live version off of \"Moonflower\"...it may sound passe\' now but just try to find passion and emotion this strong in any guitar work today...
Wonderful! Such feeling!
Santana can\'t be rated like other guitar players. IMO, he doesn\'t have the same technical chops as many, but his emotion and the way he plays what he plays is what makes it incredible.
Reading the comments I get the feeling that some think Santana is a little full of himself. To that I say, maybe so, but he\'s got the goods to back it up. As a wanna be guitar player and (closet air-guitar player) I thouroughly respect and enjoy this!
played this song at my wedding played pearl jam\'s \"Alive\" when i got divorced :D

I disagree. You don't have to be 40 to appreciate good guitar work. Speed and emotion in a guitarist. There was never that many guitarists that had both.

No, not true, here's someone else....
I can see why someone would classify this as "muzak" and I agree that in a sense this tune might be a bit cheesy. But you just have to not let it bother you too much and dig the whole Santana thing. When I approach it this way I *really* enjoy this tune, and that's what counts. Santana's band btw is one of the tightest playing bands I know.
I\'m sorry, but Santana in general, and this track in particular, are tasteless wanking. That and I can\'t stand the tone he scrapes out of his guitar.
In general I love Santana, but this track is just too schmaltzy for me.
This and Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise are the two most expressive guitar instrumentals I've ever heard. Maybe it's because both were conscious and heartfelt attempts to create music that could bring healing to the listener. Sure makes me feel good. I never get tired of either one and can rarely put one on without hitting repeat at least once.
