The gypsy woman told my mother
Before I was born
I got a boy child's coming
He's gonna be a son of a gun
He gonna make pretty womens
Jump and shout
Then the world wanna know
What this all about

'Cause you know I'm here
Everybody knows I'm here
Yeah, you know I'm a hoochie coochie man
Everybody knows I'm here

I got a black cat bone
I got a mojo too
I got the Johnny Concheroo
I'm gonna mess with you
I'm gonna make you girls
Lead me by my hand
Then the world'll know
The hoochie coochie man

But you know I'm here
Everybody knows I'm here
Yeah, you know I'm a hoochie coochie man
Everybody knows I'm here

On the seventh hours
On the seventh day
On the seventh month
The seven doctors said
He was born for good luck
And that you'll see
I got seven hundred dollars
Don't you mess with me

But you know I'm here
Everybody knows I'm here
Yeah, you know I'm a hoochie coochie man
Everybody knows I'm here

Listen to his multiple live covers of  "Highway 61".

But you need to fire extinguisher near by.  It's likely your speakers will catch fire.

That's James Cotton (Mr. Super Harp himself)  on harp ain't it?

Wasn't Little Walter gone by the 1970s?

Why are we looking at National Geographic/Cheesy inspirational photography while diggin on Mudd?

It's got zero to do with artistic license... it's simply the way people talked where Muddy grew up.
Great image. Music ain’t bad, either. X

love Muddy - the first bluesman I ever got into.

My first was Albert Collins after he played my high school graduation party on a tiny island in Puget Sound, 1971.  I had thought that all the old bluesmen were dead, but the Ice Man proved me wrong.  He was a consummate professional, dancing with any 18 year old suburban kid who would dance with him.  He had the longest ... guitar cord I've ever seen, probably 50 feet.  There was a lick he probably played 50 times in a row as we danced our skinny asses off.  I still hear it in my head whenever I want.  Thanks, Mr. Collins.  RIP

Ever hung out in the MS Delta?  Or hung out with people from there?  100 years ago when Muddy was growing up in that area I guarantee he heard people say "womens" and you can still hear that today.  Art reflecting life.

Johnny Winter showed us that he was not only one of the truly great  Guitar Slingin Bluesmen, he was also one hell of a producer. Johnny indeed made Mud "hard again"!

I was lucky enough to see Muddy in Madison Wi. at a small venue about a month before he died. He was ill that night and only played in 2 of the 3 sets but no one complained.

Absolute agreement. The so called bluesmen of today are all pale pretenders

Yes, it's great

Yes, it's Johnny Winter producing and on guitar.

I'm not in for thigh-slappers and the hoochie coochie does not help.
Funny how rating a 4 still translates as acceptable, that's not how my dutch teachers saw it in school.
Very sweet and forgiving but it means I have to give a '3' just for rather not wanting to hear something :P

Strom was somethin' else. He was so old that he ran for President as the States Rights Democratic Party candidate...in 1948. He was 46. His wife at the time, a former Miss South Carolina, was 22. His second wife, also a former Miss South Carolina, was 44 years younger than he was. She married him when she was also just 22. So I guess he was pretty good at the hoochie coochies

And then, of course, there was Essie-Mae Washington-Williams. Strom had his way with a housemaid in his family's employ when he was 22 and she was 16. Essie-Mae was their daughter. Strom acknowledged that he was Essie-Mae's father and helped her financially well into adulthood.

I guess it's a good thing you weren't a woman...

This and so many other songs by Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and other male blues artists are more full of innuendo than a Carry On film. When they weren't being miserable waking up of a morning, they surely were sex-obsessed - as they say this side of a Pond, like dogs with two dicks. Great music, juvenile cock-centric lyrics. Love old-style blues all the same, for all their strutting and boastfulness. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

Winter produced the album—one of three for Muddy. Long time Waters guitarist Jimmy Rogers also played on these sessions. But we're most likely hearing Winter.

This is the song that will be playing on at my Wedding on Saturday when I remove the garter =)

Probably because you can actually put explicit sexual references in song lyrics these days. I'm no big expert on blues sexual euphemisms, but it sounds to me like this is one down 'n' dirty song boasting being a stud ready for action. These days you could sing that you've a big dick and can shag all night and no-one would bat an eyelid. Great classic blues, though. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

I loved the records Muddy Waters made with Johnny Winter way back when - it sounds like he's right in the room and he means every word. I continually return to 'Hard Again' and 'I'm Ready' to just wallow in great blues grooves.
Wow, I know I just set a personal record of 10's - that's five in a row - Marley, Wonder, Holiday(Goddesslike), Hendrix and Muddy. Whew ! I'm exhausted.

GREAT WORK, BILL! Billie Holliday then Jimi Hendrix and then into Muddy Waters! Wouldn't ever hear this progression on commercial radio!
