Really good show.
There was a strong Collective Soul contingent - Very enthusiastic - loved the band's Southern brand of Grunge Rock.
Keith was great too.

nice venue! when i saw the xpensive winos, soul asylum was the opener. same year in pittsburgh, pa. interesting!
Still love it ❤️

Some tracks just kinda disappear, you don't enjoy them anymore, they don't seem to have that feeling about them anymore, but this sounds as good as it did 'back then'.  That guitar starts and I'm back  😎

Thanks guys.

If you turned on the alternative radio station in 1996-1997, the odds were pretty good this song would come up within half an hour.  It was a staple of radio airplay in those years.

Apparently the song was recorded in late 1992 and released March 1993, but I really don't recall hearing it at all until 1995 or so.
Great rendition of a great song......yeah

I also like Dolly Parton's version.
Which does not make me like this any less.
I’ve got to admit I like the Dolly Parton version better.

thanks so much for a very silly moment to start the day!

I kinda feel guilty for liking this so much. It’s rather formulaic… but they do it so well! And those crunchy 90s guitars as Bill says - it’s just too much fun. I find myself singing along. Gotta learn this one. So from me a 9 - just for the joy of it!
This song seriously rocks. I especially love the cranked guitar chords followed by the distant 'Yeah' at exactly the right moment. Brilliant.

But the overplayed groove is still etched in this brain, too. Not bad. Very nostalgic for what life was like at the time.
Sometimes you just enjoy a basic rock and roll groove that is fun and doesn’t ask you to think too much. It would be a hoot to play this. Power chords yeah!

Catchy guitar riffs but after that all you say is this song is better as a hymn than as a rock song.
So be it.

Oh , Maybe that's why I love it!

Not sure how our congregation would react. LOL

Especially that riff screaming through the huge Bose speakers we have.
I always was impressed with this band.  The guitar work on this song is really interesting.  Far better than 95% of the grunge that was shoved down our throats in the mid 1990s.

Which means we're probably gonna hear people whining about it being overplayed out there 25 years from now

Just another Whitney Houston ripping off a Dolly Parton song!

They got lost in the Sea of Grunge that was the mid-90's, and had the unfortunate reality of existing at the same time as Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Nirvana (more or less). A "Very Good" band that was making its way amongst Hall-of-Famers.

Kind of like Penny Hardaway having to play at the same time as Jordan, Pippen, Robinson, Malone, Stockton, Olajuwon, and Ewing.
I am deeply amused by how different the lyrics are in text from the way that are in the song.
Yeah.
FWIW, their concert with Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra ... Makes Me Happy. Find on YouTube.

Saw Keith Richards at the Paramount in Seattle, January 1993.

I can't hear this anymore without thinking of her cover. Not that that's a bad thing. I like both!
Crunchy says Bill.
I remember playing this album every Friday night for several months back in the late 90s in a bit of a social routine. I moved away, but those friends and I recently reunited at a Collective Soul concert in New Hampshire. It's good to hear them once in a while, and I look forward to catching up with those people again in another while.

Well, that cover is on the RP playlist, and although this is not a Dolly Parton fan board, I highly recommend her cover of Billy Joel's "Traveling Prayer" from The Grass is Blue.

Contrived and boring.

Always loved this song, including the Dolly Parton version Bill plays some times. Also notable that this is the song that "Smashing Young Man" Billy Corgan thought sounded too much like Drown.

Well, I for one have never heard this before. Its a, rocking, 8.

I rate it as low as possible because we've heard it way too much and because yes, it is a horrible song. The lead singer easily has one of the worst voices in recorded music, the lyrics are drivel, and the pace is boring. {#Stop}

Oh fantastic memories...

My grandparents used to have a little cabin by a river.  My best friend and I used to hang out there sometimes in the summer.  One weekend we spent the entire time listening to this album and Dr. Dre's Chronic back to back.  When one album would end, we'd switch the disk and play the other, again and again.  If we got bored, we walked the 1.5 miles down the road to a small store to get some munchies and drinks and walk back.  At night, we built a fire and just talked well into the night about girls, our lives, girls, school, girls, and sometimes even girls.  We had everything all worked out, too bad we forgot it all come Monday.

My grandparents sold that land back before my grandfather died.  Someday I'd like to have something like that to share with my (hypothetical at this point) kids and grandkids.  We had some great times there and I really miss the place and the friendship we had.

Lovely anecdote. Thanks.
....... yeah
Malibu nights, tangerine dreams,
lalalala Lo-la.

Edit for more content: I first heard this song on the Woodstock 94 live album, and liked it way better than the single I heard later. It really benefits from a human drummer.
The Buddhist band.{#Meditate}
Gel is awesome, as is The World I know

i'm not too churchy, but always thought this band rocked. big hook on this one.
one of my most favourite groups
Too bad they didn't use a real drummer...but still, Yeah!
Hints, Allegations, & Things Left Unsaid:

Ooops. I already said too much. :-)
Yeah.
fit for purpose - thought guitar sounded like Smashing Pumpkins - like it anyway
I'd like to take this moment and thank Bill for developing the PSD button.
this song is hugely underrated :/ YEAH
quite nicely riffed for '94.

Make it stop
YES!  Oh, YES!  Now and forever, Let It SHINE!  Heaven Let Your Light Shine Down...

Wow, great lineup!  I would have loved to have been there.

Wait, no Skinny Puppy ?
Great band.  Lots of good music over the years.  Distinctive sound and solid lyrics. (!yeah!)

Love the guitar break — that's about 90 seconds too short.
Well, this certainly brings back memories.

Oh, and I also like the Dolly Parton cover.  Really interesting!
I agree. But I haven't heard this version in a long time, and I think they do a great interpretation. Thumbs up for both Dolly and Collective Soul.

This throws me back to 1994 to my great road trip around the US (20K miles in 3.5 months it was, I think). This song played constantly on the different radio stations along with the song from "the Lion King".

Shiny! WOOOT! Been a while!

This disk, as well as about $2k worth of other cds was stolen about 7 years ago.  I really miss this CD.

Yeah!
The song is good, but the production is lacking. There's a huge gap in the frequency content somewhere between 5kHz and 12kHz. This simulates the feeling of listening to music while having a severe cold, with clogged nose and ears. {#Fever}

Some songs are good for turning up loud and playing air guitar to and were never meant to be erudite commentaries or musical masterpieces - this is one of them. Just fun to listen to (IMHO)
I think this song is underrated :)
Sure, it\'s not a great song (I gave it a 7), but it\'s a great example of what a good garage band can do. I think that, as they\'ve developed Collective Soul developed a better and better sound, but there was less and less substance behind it. This song reminds me of when it was the other way around for them....
Good, but don\'t play it too frequently or the memories from the 15 times a day period in the mid 90s will come back.
No, please! Get rid of this song ASAP...
