Ah caught you smiling at me, That's the way it should be,
Like a leaf is to a tree, so fine.

Ah all the good times we had, I sang love songs so glad
Always smiling, never sad, so fine.

[Chorus]
As we walk down the country lanes, I'll be singing a song,
Hear me calling your name.
Hear the wind within the trees, Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

Well if the sun shines so bright, Or on our way it's darkest night
The road we choose is always right, so fine.

Ah can your love be so strong When so many loves go wrong
Will our love go on and on...

[Chorus]

My, my la de la come on now it ain't too far,
Tell your friends all around the world,
Ain't no companion like a blue eyed merle.
Come on now well let me tell you,
What you're missing, missing, 'round them brick walls.

So of one thing I am sure, It's a friendship so pure,
Angels singing all around my door, so fine.
Yeah, ain't but one thing to do Spend my natural life with you,
You're the finest dog I knew, so fine.

When you're old and your eyes are dim, There ain't no old Shep gonna happen again,
We'll still go walking down country lanes, I'll sing the same old songs,
Hear me call your name.

PAGE STOLE THIS! This was Bert Jansch's.

Breaks my heart to have realized it but Page was one of the worst plagiarists of our times. Several egregious examples stand out: Bert Jansch's Black Water Side was ripped off completely when Page did Black Mountain Side and again when his arrangement of The Waggoners Lad was stolen for Brony Aur Stomp. Davey Grahams She Moved Through The Fair was turned into White Summer and Page had the balls to confabulate a story that he "learned Eastern Music styles while backpacking through India" which was precisely how Graham went on to innovate the DADGAD sitar style tuning Page ripped off. Jake Holme's Dazed and Confused was note for note theft. Breeden's lovely arrangement of the folk ballad Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, the Willie Dixon, the Howling Wolf, all of it stolen. It is clear that Page and his lawyers took the "fuck em, let em sue us" approach to doing business. The chickens are coming home to roost. Read this piece and go to the sources. It's an eye opener. https://alanwalkerart.com/wp/?tag=bert-jansch

Doesn't matter.  Never would have heard of Bert Jansch or Davey Graham if it wasn't for Jimmy Page.

nth thousand time I've heard this, but still makes me smile.

Forty-some years later, I finally come to the realization that Plant was singing about his dog!!!   I guess I never paid close attention to the lyrics.  I don't know if it is Plant, or me, but a lot of his words just sound like gibberish to me.  Not until I hear a live version or a cover version do I realize what they lyric actually is.

It is a fun song either in gibberish or knowing the lyric...

What is it about this song that it has to be played so often!? There are so many other Led Zepplin songs that deserve this much airplay. This is a sort of wierd classic rock thing going on here — we hear the same Led Zep song over and over. Only on RP, we hear this song all the time instead of Black Dog or Stairway to Heaven. Strange.

Well, it's been 13 years since I made this comment. At least BillG is consistent. But, I have to admit that I don't hate this song as much as I used to. In fact, I am beginning to like it again.  You win, Bill.

Always such a fun tune to get buzzed to! (I like how Syd Barrett's "The Octopus" from around the same year used similar guitar style...)

OMG.... 2 guitar licks sound the same! Call out the dogs and get the tar and feathers ready.  This must be blatant plagiarism.  Conspiracies abound.   It certainly has nothing to do with that fact that there are only so many strings, frets, and chords available on a guitar.  Or that fact that all music is derivative in some way or another.  OR the fact that rock and roll, as a form, was derived from the work of the aforementioned Blues legends.

Maybe you should spend less time grinding axes (and trying to sound like an authority) and more on just enjoying the music.  That might be wise.

Do the Stomp, y'all! (said in a Welsh accent, of course...)

Well, maybe a song about a boat, but maybe not.

From Wiki:
The song is named after Bron-Yr-Aur, a house in Gwynedd, Wales, where the members of Led Zeppelin retreated in 1970 to write much of Led Zeppelin III after having completed a gruelling concert tour of North America. Bron-Yr-Aur means "golden breast" or "breast of gold" in Welsh, as in a hillside of gold. Its pronunciation is. The cottage had no electricity or running water, but the change of scenery provided inspiration for many of the songs on the album, including "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp."
The song's title was misspelled on the album cover during initial printing; it should read "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp." This error can be contrasted to another Led Zeppelin track, "Bron-Yr-Aur", a two-minute instrumental featured on their later album Physical Graffiti, which was spelled correctly. When the song appeared on the 2003 DVD, it was spelled correctly both on the back cover of the set and the DVD's menu, although without the hyphens ("Bron Yr Aur Stomp"), and on the live album How the West Was Won it was spelled "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp".
Great Grooves!

Toe-tapping goodness.

And I can't imagine life without a blue-eyed Merle at my side (has been the case for the last 21 years, thank you Crystal, Salsa, and Dee.)
If memory serves, this was their first release that showed Led Zep was more than just a metal-blues band. Makes we want to go back and listen to Led Zep III, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graf.

40 years on, and I'm pretty certain we've not yet heard anybody that can come close to this.
Zeppelin III is the perfect example what a wonderful, tactile experience vinyl gives you, versus CDs or digital downloads - what with the spinning wheel cover jacket and cryptic quotes written into the dead wax.
Gorgeous follow-up to Lucinda!
