How come, girl was there when I needed one
How come, girl was there when the song is done
Some say, open your eyes to a brighter light
Okay, open my arms they were right
She was my soul one
She felt she was the only one
She was the sun, the sky blue eyes
She was my soul one
Inside, pain in my heart often made her cry
Outside, I cursed the birds and the sugar sky
How long take to realize she's the one
How long until I find my lost and lonely soul one
She was my soul one
She felt like the only one
She was the sun, the sky blue eyes
She was my soul one
Should of never taken the time
'Cause I found myself living a lonely lie
You said, you left to find yourself
But I never, no I never got the chance to say good-bye
She was my soul one I thought she was the only one
I thought she was......

Bon Jovi on Radio Paradise, wow!
Eeek. Meh. Someone let the cat go pee.
Sorry about the bad song file. Should be OK the next time it plays.
Is this a null song? Clever of those Blind Melon boys.
Boy this is a quiet one. Can't hear a peep!
Reminds me of the sound of silence.
??? still no sound on audio ???

Time to get a new mp3 file, I guess.
:( and right now, this moment, silence is the sound of Blind Melon's Soul One, man I hate it when audio glitches!

This takes me floating back to an amazing time in my life - even though this is the first time I'm hearing this song. Blind Melon's (and Shannon's) music captured the soul of its time. Bittersweet memories of an inspired artist who's music spoke to me - silenced (needlessly) to soon.

I never knew blind melon other than that song with the bumblebee in the video. This is beautiful!

More Blind Melon is a good thing, by the way. ;)
Ah, Shannon Hoon. Taken from us too soon.
I don't know if this is ho or hum or both.
Not so much.
My all-time favorite song from maybe my all-time favorite band.
Great song and band! Love the "Unified Theory" version of the band also...
still remember the day he died...
Was walking up stairs to my dorm room, (because a squirrels had eaten through the electric wire? go figure ohio squirrels.. needless to say the power was off on a sunday evening, cram time) overheard a huge fan crying about the death of Shannon when then the room right beside mine blew up in flames from two students doing their art projects by candle light while using rubber cement..
moral of the story: don't rub rubber cement with bestine on yer hands then reach over a candle... luckily, no one was hurt and the fire was contained to only those girls room.

An amazing song. Such a shame that Shannon died so young. Blind Melon's music is very underappreciated, in my opinion.

How did Bon Jovi get on RP?
The fact that you can't tell the difference between Bon Jovi & Blind Melon says more about you than this song, don't you think?
Thought this was Triumph.
Nice move from Blind Melon to Neil. They both have a similar sensibility. Day time. Everything is out in the open.

oh it's called Letters From a Porcupine. obviously I have a lot to learn about Blind Melon, but I'm looking fwd to it!
They've got their self-titled album. They followed that up with Soup. The album this song was released on is called Nico (named after Shannon's daughter) and was released after his death. All three albums are worthwhile.
Letters From a Porcupine was the name of the video they released of touring etc. It's a bit strange (shocker) and I wouldn't really recommend it to people who aren't avid fans. Though don't take my word.

LOL! That's funny.... but it's still a pretty good song.
I felt good listening to this tonight. Definitely under rated. Might have to include it on my "wprld travelin'" mp3 player before the big trip. Good call Bill.

Well, not quite...I usually don't slam a song here on RP, preferring to just cheer on the good'uns...but I couldn't help thinking the whinometer was set to 10 on this one.

Nah, more like Tesla just going by the vocals :)
Great song

Please skip this in future.

I gotta have a BM. More BM please.
I still think Change was one of the better tunes from the 90's.

This is great stuff, we need some more Blind Melon here.
what coulda been indeed.
Ahh, what coulda been....
This is one of the most incredible acoustic tunes ever! A real heartbreaker for sure. Shannon Hoon was a very talented bro.

Bill, why do you frequently pick the most boring songs out of artists catalogs???
Don't knock it.... we're lucky to have anything other than "No Rain" on the station... I uploaded a few... almost surprised they were accepted! It seems regular radio didn't find ANYTHING else of value in the group.. and of course now they are pretty much no more.

I think Hoon was an amazing singer. Up there with the likes of Jeff Buckley in terms of talent. But, you probably think Buckley was a whiner too. Oh well, your loss.

A very talented singer and a beutiful song. Nico is a great album.
hearing this reminded me that this afternoon the local radio station played No Rain again... yes.. you guessed it, because it *was* raining... those whacky DJ's ... boy they never see the over used joke.. and as I'm pulling out of the driveway I had the urge to just yell at that same incessant idiot playing the tunes.. play another song by them.. play something no one has ever heard.. do the band a solid.. play other than your stupid s**t for nothing joke and give people real music..
and then my mind wondered back here.. its not available in the car, this Paradise of Radio for which we've many of us chosen to make a home..
:D

I saw them "open" for Neil Young and Soundgarden - Melon was by far the best set of the night. For one of their last songs, Shannon sang Janis Joplin's "Mercedes Benz" - it was moving to say the least. i could have sworn that Janis had posessed him for the duration. really really incredible.
damn, we miss you dude!

I was turned on to Blind Melon *by* No Rain (the song everyone here seems to hate from over play) and then introduced to them by a former manager who was the member of a small band himself.. and even back then (1998) it was still to late to get newer music from the passed on rocker.
Listening to the three cd's out there, most people realize this band DID have something, and could have gone a long way had it not been for Shannon's death.
Yeah I agree, I was there in the crowd and he was the highlight of the festival for me. I think Shannon was more f'ed up that I was. :-) Nice touch was someone in a bee costume dancing through the crowd.
This whole album is very good, its a shame that all there was.

The leadsinger could easily be Robert Plant\'s son, the way he sounds in this song at least.
Good sound, not too sure \'bout the song though.
Whenever I see Blind Melon on the playlist, I am reminded of Cheech & Chong's routine about an old blues singer named Blind Melon Chitlin'--hilarious stuff. (Off of the same album as "Dave's not here, man.")
Anyway, AMG says, "Blind Melon a phrase that Smith's father would use to describe a couple of hippie neighbors from back home in Mississippi." But I bet that the father got it from Cheech & Chong.
Pure speculation, but plausible, eh?
Wow! This is a great song. Most other times I dislike this band because the lead singer\'s voice grates on my nerves. Not this time however. This is really nice.
I\'ve never heard a lot from this band via radio or record.
This is the second song I \'ve heard and I like them both quite well. I saw them live once they were an \"opening\" act.
I don\'t know if it was a typical Blind Melon gig, but the lead vocalist did nothing but try to scream over the sound system. I\'m not one to be too critical and if I don\'t like
a band or singer, I\'ll just say nothing rather than be critical, taste is subjective anyway. In any event, I came away thinking that I had heard enough of them. Then again we all have bad days. Be that as it may, if this cut is indicative of the bands work, I could certainly stand to hear more from there catalog.
Wonderful. I love this one. Btw, how big a part did Shannon really have in the tunes? I got the imnpression that Blind Melon was more of a jam band, with Shannon writing the lyrics.
It\'s too bad overexposure to \"the bee song\" made everyone sick of hearing these guys. Shannon sure knew how to string together a decent tune and lyrics. It was good stuff while it lasted.
One of my favorite songs of all time, please play more Blind Melon.
gives me serious goosebumps every time I hear it.
love the entire album. :D
My sister turned me on to this CD a few months back and I listen to it so often, it seems like I have had it for years. Nice selection ....
You bet !
