Today is a lovely day to run
start up the car with the sun

Packing blankets and dirty sheets
a roomful of dust and a broom to sweep up
all the troubles you and I have seen

cross when the drawbridge light is green
don't look back to that messed-up scene

Packing blankets and dirty sheets
a roomful of dust and a broom to sweep up
all the troubles you and I have seen

and all our troubles will be gone
blowing out over that bidge
floating up into the sky
making the storm clouds cry

put out that smoke and breath some air
get a new name and cut your hair

yes, it does.
Also an incredibly consistently good writer. His albums are good all the way through! Who does that? Beck and E!

Love this album. It gets a lot of playtime in my car. Can't believe I had this rated so low. Must have been from before I fell in love with this whole album.

Yep, got this too.

E always brings the fire to my synapses. Surely one of the highlights of my life was seeing him and his band jam at Shibuya's great Club Quattro back in 2004 or so with a fiery, feisty little Shoko. SUGOI!

If I had a nickel for every time I heard a band described that way....
Eels: It's like soft, sensitive barbed-wire. Just love it!
This is my favorite song from my favorite band

Thanks Bill, you're the best!

Wouldn't call it "nastiness", but certainly not nice and peppy: refers to him dealing with the suicides of a relative, i.e. having to pack up the things left behind and moving on.

OK, does the title mean that a person is packing blankets as in putting them away, or maybe has blankets on their person much in the same way that a person "packing heat" is carrying a gun. Wait, maybe we're talking about when the moving company shows up and uses packing blankets to protect your funiture in the moving van.

I wish I would have heard the song. I'm so confused.

It's about the singer  having to clean up and pack the stuff his relative who committed suicide left behind. Based on Mark Everett's personal experience dealing with his sister's suicide.
Good band - no question!

Perfect.  Anyone for a road trip?

Check out the NOVA episode "Parallel Universes, Parallel Lives" — it's about Mark's dad, Hugh Everett, brilliant physicist.

This sounds like Dewey Cox's fake Dylan song.
I just don't get what people see in this band. It's pretty boring and generic to me.

This was my first Eels album. Although I've since acquired every one before and after, it remains my favorite.

Carlin stole that bit from Monty Python! Remember Graham's character name that was spelled Raymond Luxury-Yacht but pronounced Throat-Warbler Mangrove?

I think a band can spell its name any way it wants, and if that includes using all lowercase letters, so be it. The same goes for an individual. No "lingual rule" is getting broken, because those rules can't apply to a name. It's your name; spell it however you'd like. As George Carlin said, you can spell your name s-m-i-t-h and pronounce it "Janofski" if you want to.

I think you used many positive adjectives to describe yourself...those are all good qualities to have, grammatically speaking that is!

No, get Electro-Shock Blues. It's their best, most moving work. Not something you'll want to put on very often, though. Beautiful Freak is good, too. Doesn't "eels" have to spelled with a capital letter anymore?

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this. Any eels fans. . .what should I get if I want to hear some more?
I recommend Beautiful Freak as his/their most consistent work, but you'll find gems like this on every album. The latest, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations, is also mighty fine. Electro-Shock Blues is regarded by many as somewhat of a downer, so you might want to avoid that one.
Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this. Any eels fans. . .what should I get if I want to hear some more?
