My sun is set--and my day is done
When I turn to the east I can see no dawn
But iron horse come--buffalo gone
Like blades of grass they cut us all down
Yes I know what it is to be free
To run as far as the eye can see
But long knife come--buffalo gone
Like blades of grass they cut us all down
Why in the world are you so cruel?
Here is a girl who's working in a factory
Spends all her time there thinking what she want to be
She got no boyfriend--she got no window
She just a lonely heart--it's tearing me apart
There's a boy now doesn't have a word to say
Cat got your tongue now--night to night and day to day
He got no girlfriend--he got no money
He just a lonely heart--it's tearing me apart
Why in the world are you so cruel?
Everywhere I go there's a world full of heartbreak
Hole in the sky now--tell me where for God's sake
Where is that sunshine? Where is that rainbow?
Who got an answer here? Tell me what I want to know
Nobody knows the trouble I see
Nobody cares--nobody but me
And James Bond, Jackie O, Johnnie Ray and Garbo
Who got an answer here? Tell me what I want to know
When I turn to the east I can see no dawn
But iron horse come--buffalo gone
Like blades of grass they cut us all down
Yes I know what it is to be free

Cynaera, you are missed. You nailed my sentiments too, on this song. BF doesn't generally do this style well, but here it is rewarding.

Had NO idea this was Bryan Ferry! I love it. Edgy, quirky, dark. He should be singing this in tight jeans, a T-shirt with the sleeve rolled up to hold a pack of cigarettes, and maybe a big bling-ring on his finger. This is good, gritty stuff.

Heard some of his ltest stuff. Love Is The Drug done in a 20's Jazz style (live with he and a lady singing on NPR btw) is a killer tune (with or without the vocals).
Brian is supercool! Love lots of his songs.

...like it!..
I've always enjoyed Ferry's 'cool' vibe
Never appreciated Mr. Ferry's music much — blame it on an ocean's physical distance and a cultural distance that kept me preoccupied with ZZ Top and the Allman Brothers.
That is, until I saw the movie "Flashbacks of a Fool." Great movie, and the one Ferry tune marks a pivotal moment in the teenaged boy's life. Bummer I missed him in the 70's.

Never heard this on RP, love it. One of my favorite CDs for the back porch on a cool, breezy day.
Great! Love is the Drug (after all)...

oooh, interesting choice considering what's going on in the "community."

I hope you stopped short of the "I'm having a stroke" expression he has on his face as he sings.
As a teen in the late 70's Ferry showed me most of what I needed to know about what "cool" and "style" really meant.

Love a lot of Roxy. Never dove deep into Bryan. Like this tune but not enough to buy the album.
Apparently this is a Dave Stewart collaboration but the album has many styles, some Dylan covers, and some Johnny Greenwood guitar (per AMG). Maybe I will get it.

But, even from the back of the arena, you know that Ferry's wearing Italian shoes.

It's funny how he's quite popular in the UK and on the continent but hardly known here in the 'states.

Perhaps the reason he's not that well known in the States is because he's got a weak voice and can't carry a tune. Objectively speaking, of course.
No argument here. Solid 3 that made me turn off RP.

quite cool. Roxy Music kicked ass in their day.

his vocal style sounds a lot like David Bryne... or vice-versa.
Is revered around the world except USA. Open people please check out Roxy Music his first band, then delve deeper into his catalog.
You will not be dissapointed.
I thought the same....(David Byrne)

Great set Bill, the last 6 songs have just been divine...... Though I love Bryan Ferry on vinyl, I hated him as a performer!
I can see that, though he's my favorite guy in the whole world.... He can be a little stiff on stage, doesn't chat the audience up etc.

Always great tunes from BF (he's 60 this month..yikes). Co-written and co-produced by Dave Stewart. Wish DS would do this stuff with Annie Lennox again.
Eurythmics are playing again. Were on Today show on Thanksgiving...
Brilliant! :-)

this is definitely a standout track. Mr. Ferry should be proud. (of course, his voice does always do it for me no matter what.) :)
Yep, I feel the same way *swoon*
THANKS BILL, YOU'RE THE BEST!!

Long a fan of his earlier material, I haven't heard his newer stuff. I was pleasantly surprised. His voice is still instantly recognisable, if not quite as powerful on this track as I remember it from before.

no, your first impression was the right one. you have to go backwards to rediscover Mr. Decadent
Bought this CD after hearing "Going Down."
I liked Roxy and almost all of his solo stuff.
But this album really sucks. He does a bunch of Dylan covers, that aren't really that great, IMHO.
Was really disappointed. I may have to listen to it again, but on first listening, it was painful.

Nice to hear BF again, so smooth, and funky! :sunny.gif:
reminds me of talking heads.....
Can\'t get enough of Ferry or Roxy!
Heard this first on WDET in Detroit. It\'s really grown on me and there are other great cuts as well. Thanks for playing it.
It\'s a good song but twice a day it\'s enough.
New Bryan Ferry, glad to hear he\'s still working. Good rock and roll song.
Da Man. Dat is all.
yeah baby!
Cool, Brian Ferret, the arch nemesis of Tasmin Archer badger :D
I like the way his vocals swoosh up on the \"cruel\", indicating a certain intensity and instability, as if he\'s barely hanging on. The rhythm and accompanying lead guitar move the whole song along--the singer\'s madness has a certain inevitability.
Mr. Ferry seems to be returning a bit (more) to how he used to sound in the old Roxy Music days. I surely appreciate that and would love to listen to him doing It's All Over Now Baby Blue, which is also on this album.
