Sorry, but as open minded as I am with music releases of today, I must object.  The original version from Isaac Hayes's fabulous Hot Buttered Soul album is scared.  Does anybody write / compose anything original anymore....good grief, it appears the majority of so called artist out there strive to take short cuts...and the artists that actually sweat it out do not get the recognition they so rightfully deserve.  Sure, the good thing here is that listeners who haven't experienced the original tune may seek it out as this should give them a greater sense of appreciation & understanding of Isaac Hayes' original work as an artist.  Happy Listening.

'....it appears the majority of so called artist out there strive to take short cuts....'

I assume this is a cut/paste from a letter to Viz?
Dwight Schrute on guitar?
Never thought I would end up writing that some of my favourite listening at the moment is coming out of Belgium (Hooverphonic, Balthazar)

I don't like it as much as that absolutely amazing version of Mad About You that was live at  Koningin Elisabethzaal in 2012 that I play on youtube all the time but it's enough to make me want to do a deeper dive with these guys.
Hey, what’s happening, and welcome to “The Ladies Man”. The love line with all the right responses to your romantic queries. First I'll just have a sip of my Courvoisier and...yeahh.. this is definitely working down below. Yeah! I can feel that!  Never mind, it's probably just these crazy wang pills.  Anyway let me take our first call now...

So... who's gonna tell this guy that Isaac Hayes didn't write the original either?

Thanks, I just did.

60091 is my hometown zip code. That was weird hearing it being sung through the music.

I watched one episode, and it was nothing like the original. I just can't do it. I've got CDs of ALL the music used on all five seasons of the show, and there's just no way WB can recreate magic - especially when they dropped the ball so royally by not marketing La Femme Nikita. The music alone was worth watching the show for - the scripts, the casting, the production - those were icing on the cake. I miss that show...

Look after the king of R n R please

I like the horizontal light bar of the runway approach lights and the blurry aircraft on approach in the cover photo. As a retired aviator it evokes a time... despite the perspective being from the airport surface
We love this wicked wiky thing... so many good memories :)
love the issac hayes sampling on this tune
Great set this afternoon Bill. Thanks.

The original version of "Walk On By" was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and recorded by Dionne Warwick in 1964; it's surprising how few people here seem to know that.  However, the loop sampled in this tune is from Isaac Hayes' 1969 version.

{#Yes}

Something like this version

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5tqAbrZeX0

although I don't know if the sisters punch out "Wah! Wah!" as hard on the Youtube video.

Now Stingray, don't throw a hissy fit but...Isaac was a Scientologist. Deep breaths, fella.
It always sounds like she is she "Foie Gras"...I suddenly crave Pate and crackers...like every time I hear this...just saying.

Why not play Isaac Hayes original instead ?

Late to the party but thought it was IH, as well.  Yes, disappointment!

The breakup set:

Josh Ritter - Joy to you baby
Led Zeppelin - That's the Way
Madrugada - Majesty
Hooverphonic - 2 Wicky

As I'm in the middle of one, or a reconciliation?,  apropos.
my kinda chillout powerpop in hyperdrive on a starry night.. {#Music}

I heard it too..... and the funny thing was .... that I was just thinking of that song a couple of days ago.... and wanting to hear it.   But after hearing THIS.... I am not disappointed..... THIS is AMAZING —— like most Hooverphonic that I have heard on here.
Whoa, you play Hooverphonic?  Sweet.
Great album - simply buy it if you like whatever you hear from it here.

Wow. I had the same reaction!

I'm always disappointed when it turns out to be the hooverphonics.  But then again I lost my virginity to Hot Buttered Soul.  Wicked good.

Actually...was pretty relieved that this turned out to be Hooverphonic and not Isaac covering "Walk on By." I've just heard it too many times on RP...

What makes me crazy about Hooverphonic is that I first heard them on "La Femme Nikita," and now I hear them everywhere, but I can still see the scenes where their songs were used as mood music in the background. And then, I have to drag out my DVDs of the show and watch them again. Flashbacks are an obnoxious thing sometimes.

Oooh, I loved that show.  Maybe this is part of the reason why.

Very groovy, in a Portishead sort of way.  Very pleasant.
Yes, echo the votes for Isaac Hayes.  Some Hot Buttered Soul would be cool....

It would be nice to follow this with the original.  (Not sure I've ever heard it done by Isaac.  Did Dionne Warwick ever do this song?)   I love this!

{#Yes},,,,,,if memory serves me right !?

Don't like this at all. Play Issac instead.....
Darn thought this Isaac Hayes doing Walk on By!!  I am disappointed:-(
Portishead? identic.

Never heard the original either, but this I like!
Love it, but so annoying u can't download MP3 off of amazon. {#Confused}

This is a great song from a great album. For whatever reason, Hooverphonic's subsequent albums have never come close to this. I think the problem is they have tried to be purer musicians with less emphasis on studio production, and that is a problem since the production made them interesting. As musicians and songwriters they are very ho-hum. But I highly recommend "Stereophonic Sound Spectacular". A great trip-hop/chillout album.

I totally agree!  Blue Wonder Power Milk was great, but this album before it was better.  Love this song especially - thanks for playing it Bill

Most EXCELLENT song...how did she get the serial # off of my gun ?

Brilliant.
Interesting song. Hooverphonic has my vote.

Awesome!!!!!!
Love the "wah-wah." Portishead and Hooverphonic separated at birth?
Wow, I haven't heard this in a long time.
This is OK, but man, someone please upload some stuff from Hot Buttered Soul!! I only have it on LP, back home in Canada...I miss it, scratches and all...
Of course this has got me thinking of Isaac. There's nothing quite as arresting as his version of By The Time I Get To Phoenix, with the loooongeest spoken word intro, to provide backstory of why the dude in the song is driving to Arizona. "I'm talking about the power of LOOVE!" And a single organ chord. Dig it.

That's exactly what it is. They sampled the Hayes tune. The original Hot Buttered Soul album is a classic. Hyperbolicsesquidaleymistic is awsome! Play it Bill!
Ah, cool. Well, since my upload of "Theme from Shaft" (click here) went straight past the LRC onto the main playlist, now with an 8.3 rating, I might upload "Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic" later. (you missed the syllable "sylla" ) Most of IH's other work is probably too extreme/weird, even for RP.

I agree. I was looking for the words you posted :)
A most excellent band, I can highly recommend their work.
It was a big hit here in belgium (Flemish part) i do like it very much. They have some other fine songs, but this is one of their best.

Sensual...
But they don't sound anything like a vacuum cleaner...
2wip-Hop needs a little more representation on RP IMHO
such a great track. it all works together just right. perfect.
Sounds like 2 different tracks out of tune. I\'m surprised Isaac Hayes agreed on that remix.
This group is aptly named because they suck.
Heard it on Monkey Radio first. God I miss that station.
I can picture Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty sleeping with drool and this song playing in the background... Great song, great movie too. ps - I\'ll take the credit for uploading this.

Agreed! I much prefer their original singer over the present one. Their new album is due in September. Let's hope it's an improvement over "The Magnificent Tree."
