Just had to reiterate this.

Wow

Makes me wonder what would happen if one of the  current crop of female pop star girl/women who try so hard to be bad and sexy and all that just let it out and covered this one...

IMHO, I don't believe "today's" female artists could pull off such a feat! Not knocking them but, Koko is definitely in a class of her own!

Well, this was a '96 release but, I catch your drift! In her earlier years, running with the folks in the biz that she did, I couldn't imagine it to ever be a bad time! Many comparable, none the same as Ms. Koko!

Koko couldn't be any further from lame.... Nominated for 11 Grammys says differently! As well as wide praise, here in comments! Your hearing aid must need batteries.

CJ... I'd bet that show was one you'll never forget! What a lineup to catch at one show! Wow!

Dude had it
Ive been a Union Member Since I was 19. Im 69 now and we never had a Wang Dang Doddle at the Union hall. I feel so deprived.
From an Obit:

"Taylor's career stretched more than five decades. While she did not have widespread mainstream success, she was revered and beloved by blues aficionados, and earned worldwide acclaim for her work, which including the best-selling song "Wang Dang Doodle" and tunes such as "What Kind of Man is This" and "I Got What It Takes."

I'm reading a book about the Chitlin' Circuit - this song is its aural embodiment.

My other half and I saw Koko some years ago in Rehoboth Beach and even in her late 70s that woman can put on a show.
Dunno about you lot, but the idea of this one pitching anyone's wang dang doodle scares me. solid 7
And here I thought Tom Waits had some gravel in his throat! Woah!

With that voice and energy, its a damn shame someone couldn't write her a better hook.....

Amazingly powerful vocalist.

Actually probably all of those but the TV show.  I always thought it was a sexual reference, but it is more of a reference to having a raucous good time:

I met the lady once backstage in Detroit during a huge blues fest. She was an absolute gem and as sweet as anyone I've ever met.  I miss her.
OH MY!!!!!
Been listening to the Savoy Brown version of this song for years.  Thanks RP for letting me see the actual lyrics!!
Now THIS is down and dirty!

  Well, I think Ms. Taylor's growl helps too.

Just sayin'.

But yeah, that extra little guitar work is icing on the cake.

I  remember this song from my mom's jukebox...such a fun classic....makes ya feel good all over!
Maybe I'm getting old, but I just can't go all night anymore.  I have to sleep (or in my case, work) and will need to do some other things at some point.  Still, fond memories of my early 20's when I had the energy to be "active" during the night and still be able to pull of working in the day.

On an unrelated note...  it's amazing how much my wife's boss looks like Koko Taylor.  From what I understand, she can't sing like Koko at all though.

OK.  Just as long as you stay away from my Dang Wang Noodle. {#Lol}
Happy New Year... May 2012 be much better in every direction for all who read this-!... Now Let's Dance....
Surprised this one is under a 7... Such a classic blues party tune.

Ok, I give in - what is a "wang dang doodle"? The last use I heard of "wang" was referring to the small male appendage. . .

PS
I believe that "STAND UP" and even "THIS WAS" - not to mention
"LOCOMOTIVE BREATH" - have been their best works!

WTF? Y'know, buddy, even for you this one's sorta out there. Then again maybe I'm the only guy in town who doesn't instantly get the relationship between Koko and your love/hate thing with Jethro Tull. Maybe you can sort this one out for us. No, wait, you don't listen...you only talk.

She was always great at the NOLA Jazz and Heritage Festival. Starts on Thursday, hope to see some of you there.
Prefer live version but LOVE this...met her in Detroit...classy lady...RIP

Anybody remember the Hindu Love Gods version?

Solid version that.

I prefer the Koko version on the Chess Box compiliation honoring Willie Dixon.
That is such a great picture on the cover of this LP - it looks like she sounds - Rockin'!!

Crap, I was just getting into this and my boss came into my office.  PLAY IT AGAIN, BILL! {#Bananasplit}
I had the good fortune to see Koko at the old Walnut Hills bar in Dayton back around '77.  The place was way oversold both in seats and drinks.  She rocked us hard and left us all exhausted.

God rest, Koko.  Ye are sorely missed!
What exactly is a wang dang?  I may need to pinch one!

Got to see her in Alaska a few years back at the now defunct Blues on the Green festival. Talk about woman POWER, this gal's got it in spades! Not the biggest fan of her voice but the woman's got more soul in her little finger than in James Brown's well used you-know-what! (R.I.P James!) You go girl!{#Cheers}

Koko could be a mixed blessing live. I saw her live at a dive in Indiana sometime in the eighties.

She refused to come out on stage until the crowd was chanting K0-KO TAY-LAR, KO-KO TAY-LAR. She then spent most of her set yelling at the drummer.

But then again there were concerts in Chicago where she tore the house down!
You're a GENIUS, BILL!!

Dionysius and I saw Koko on our wedding night - she rocked the house! Had a fabulous backup band and she was flirted BIG TIME with her shockingly young guitarist! She was (and you can quote me on this) throwing it out both pants legs!
