EXCELLENT!! RP introduced me to this band, now I have several of their tunes on "My Favorites " list. That is why we come here. Thanx RP!

This takes me back to Portugal many years ago as a young man enjoying a bohemian life
Can't help it, it reminds me the 12 monkeys movie (mby it's the accordion?)

The entire album is a great listen. It's the kind of thing you just want to put on after a meal when you have some friends over, and let the mood wash over the post-dinner glow. Without realising it, you're transported off to Cuba and listening to the chatter in the streets.

Somebody knows where this sample was extracted from? I guess it's the UN's speech.
Was that before or after he and Fidel murdered the people who opposed them?

Great to hear this on RP. This is one of those songs I stumbled upon back in the glory days of free music on Kazaa, I've loved it ever since.

Reminds me of Bernie Mac. I think that this is what his character dances the tango to in "Guess Who?" God, I miss him.

I'll second that - love to hear that played at some point. This is a good stand-in though.

I blame advertising in the USA for these connotations, like International chicken sandwiches at BK a few years back. However, Wikipedia notes thatAccordion is the main instrument in the musette style of ballroom music in France (a style now largely out of fashion) and in the 1950s chanson singing, which has a revival in the form of neo-realism.
And from those ballrooms and singing, it was put in musicals and movies.
A tinkling guitar relative's sound is played to imply "Italian". Another guitar-relative sound is used to imply "Greek"....

These guys have been in and out of London a number of times over the past few years. They've certainly got a good agent acting on their behalf as quite a few of their album songs have appeared on BBC TV shows (e.g. Hustle) as well as a number of TV Adverts. Track 4 (Triptico) is my favourite, but I have to say, the whole album is a very good listen. I've also come across some DJ remixes of these songs............pretty groovy if you're into that sound. Haven't heard anything new from these guys for awhile though?......
They put out a new album this past spring, I believe. And it's very good as well.
the tango is Argentinian, not French.
Why does "accordions == French" exist in my musical idiolect?
i think i friend of mine made me a mixed CD with this song. For some reason I have definately heard it and am almost sure i have it somewhere on my computer.
hm...im gonna have to dig around when i get home.

"We want peace" not much wrong with that sentiment. Out in 2001 it became one of my tracks of year 2002. Whole cd is pretty similar to "queremos paz". Cheers, Bryan.
How ironic then that the words are from Che, who advocated wholesale slaughter to move the "revolution" forward.
In case anyone's wondering...figuring it was, I found an article that confirms the speaking parts are Che Guevara's address to the UN. And what sounds like an accordian is called a bandoneón (very similar):
This message brought to you by a lover of tango and Argentine semi-citizen.
Still an excellent tune.

Gotta hand it to the boys from Paris, they sure make me feel like I'm back in Argentina... *sigh*
Maybe it's not the same as real tango, but I certainly find it likeable.
sweeeet, bold, refreshing mixture of musical 'genres' and traditional instruments

ah, sorry. must suck not being able to read eh?
Bought the CD after first hearing it here. Came as a double CD, which was a pleasant surprise. Whole album is good. Much of it is modern or updated, like Quermos Pas, rather than classic Tango, like Piazolla.
Very pleasant to listen to nonetheless. Very gentle, rythmic and mildly grooving.

I would rather listen to real tango. This is schlocky. But it's also kind of catchy. Which frightens me immensely.
Piazzolla/tango footprints all over this album...

I was just thinking the same thing! It's called "Suite Punta Del Este" (Twelve Monkeys Theme)" by Astor Piazzolla.
This is less forboding though. Nice.
Quite pleasant, thank you.

Synths, Drum machines, and Accordians should never be combined--This sounds like something they'd play at the local V.F.W.
