He wore Italian shoes
Like that's supposed to mean something
I mean I could wear Italian shoes too
And it wouldn't mean a thing to me
Except maybe the first time I wore them
And I was trying to get to you

I mean it's not like I'm trying to get to you
It's like I'm trying to be with you
And it's not like I'm trying
Because you know I want to be

And it's not like I want to be with you
Because I already am with you
And it's not like I am with you because I'm far away
What I'm trying to say

She had the hair of a star
Like that's supposed to mean something
I mean I could make my hair look real good too
And it wouldn't mean a thing to me
Except maybe if it turned out perfect
And it turned out that I got to you

I mean it's not like I'm trying to be a star for you
It's like I'm trying to be with you
And it's not like I'm trying
Because you know I want to be

And it's not like I want to be with you
Because I already am with you
And it's not like I am with you
Because I'm far away
What I'm trying to say

What I'm trying to say is
What I'm trying to say
What I'm trying to say is
What I'm trying to say

You could tell me I love you
Like that's supposed to mean something
I mean I could always say I love you too
And it wouldn't mean a thing to me
Except every time you'd say it
I'd probably fall in love with you

I mean it's not like I'm trying to fall for you
It's like I'm trying to be with you
And it's not like I'm trying because you know I wanna be
And it's not like I want to be with you

Because I already am with you
And it's not like I am with you
Because I'm far away
What I'm trying to say

What I'm trying to say is
What I'm trying to say
What I'm trying to say is
What I'm trying to say

What I'm trying to say is
What I'm trying to say
What I'm trying to say is
What I'm trying to say

I love Patty Larkin ... but there are better songs off of this disc, and off her previous ones (notably Perishable Fruit).

If you . . . twist and . . . turn away . . . oops, wrong song
Well, no one has commented on your story, but I read it and enjoyed it. However, it reads a little like you were in the LIFT for 4 weeks!! :)
I was once in a lift (sorry elevator) in Vegas on teh 4th July. I had been there for about 4 weeks and had gone local, even to the point of "seeing" a local girl a couple of times. Anyway as it was a special day for the Americans I decide to dress nice for the night out and wore my best shirt. A chap got into the lift and kept looking at me. There I was in my shimery-purple shirt and he eventually turned round to me and said. "That's a hell of a shirt, man." I was taken aback...we Brits just wouldn't DO that! I just siad "Thanks, it's English." "Ahh" he replied. "Great shirt makers the English." Doesn't mean much really, but the title of this song, and the lyrics, "Italian Shoes" sort of reminded me of that incident. Isn#t it funny how music can do that. Hey ho. I like the song, never heard her or it before. It gets a 7.
