And your hands are really shakin something awful
As you light your 27th cigarette
Oh how long have you been sittin in the darkness
You forget
Oh you know you're gettin really hard to be with
And you're cryin every time you turn around
And you wonder why you can not pick your head up
Off the ground

Oh my crazy baby
Try to hold on tight
Oh my crazy baby
Don't put out the light, the light,
the light, the light

And they look at you like they don't speak your language
And you're living at the bottom of a well
And you swallowed all the awful bloody secrets
That you can't tell
Oh you know you ought to get yourself together
But you can not bear to walk outside your door
No, you can not bear to look into the mirror
Anymore, anymore

Oh my crazy baby
Try to hold on tight
Oh my crazy baby
Don't put out the light, the light,
the light, the light

And your hands are really shakin something awful
As your worries crawl around inside your clothes
Ooh how long will you be sittin in the darkness
Heaven knows

Oh my crazy baby
Try to hold on tight
Oh my crazy baby
Don't put out the light, the light,
the light, the light, the light,
the light, the light, the light,
the light, the light

And we found our MAGAt voter....
I was fortunate enough to work on the Who Quadrophenia shows at the Garden in the mid 90's.  She and her band opened both nights and they did the standards from this album, no problem.  But they rolled in the first day and their sound check turned into a workout for the sound system that the Who had spec'd.  just them and me and a few dozen other people.  I still get shivers thining about it.

You tone deaf moron keep your ignorance to yourself.  What are you doing on Radio Paradise?  The rest of us love this stuff that Bill plays and this whole Album is a first-class gem.  I have seen her live 3 times and every time was fantastic, amazing talent.  Just ask the Funk Brothers.

Your comment is insulting, mostly to yourself. Osborne is a versatile and talented artist. I saw her at Jazz Alley the day after Prince died. She filled her entire set with Prince songs, despite the fact that she had never performed or even learned them before. Just amazing.

This album is a gem, every track a winner.
I hear a little of the other Joan in this number. Very sweet.

hilarious comment.
haven't heard this in years. so so so sad. love it.

RP is playing music from 10 of her albums.

That's what I thought until I heard Moby's "We Are All Made of Stars".  I realized then that as bad as "Crazy Baby" is we were still in the shallow end of the pool.
Soulful singing. She is very talented.
But please stop the angst-ridden lovelorn crooning.
Might be worst song I have heard on RP {#Cry}
Good stuff!
This is painfull. Please, stop :(

It would be great to hear Baez do a full blown (not just acoustic) version of this.
Ufff uaaa {#Eek}

I agree.  Great song until the outro.
'Twas s'ok until the end, when she starts overpowering her vocal chords.
Really really happy to hear her (various songs) played here pretty often. Sometimes I feel like she had dropped off the face of the earth. She knows what to sing, backed by whom, and has really hit her stride.
Great singer. Downbeat song. I hear it twice, I'm done.

Sounds great!👍👍😁. And that guitar🎞🎞!
please make it stop
sounds like a Linda Ronstandt cover band... and not a good one.
Soooooo boring..... like all her stuff
I love this song

Osborne is basically a blues singer, and it's been hard for her to find material that shows off her talents without going totally into a blues mode. I think this song is a good vehicle. I like it.
I really love her song One of Us, it's a spectacular song
Just don't need to hear this....
This album is still a great listen.....except for "God One of Us".  Still don't like that song, but of course, that is the big pop hit, so she will forever be remembered for it.  I just downloaded her new album the other day and haven't listened to it yet, I'll get on that now.
one verse, two verses, three... enough of this whining. PSD.
i enjoy her new stuff so much more
Bumped from an 8 to a 9.

a tune surfing the mp3s — like it.
Filled with pathos, the pain she expresses hear rips the heart to shreds with a hope never to be fulfilled.

This week finds me all over the place, musically, although I usually am, anyhow. I like and am willing to listen to just about anything, except maybe the specialized category of easy listening death metal prog electronica country. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Wow Calypsus, you wrote this? It reads like english!

I can't listen to Fiona Apple because she is ALWAYS off pitch. Joan bends the notes on purpose and her emotional pitch is perfect.
My favourite song!!! {#Clap}

Your singing career? How's it coming along? You sound just a wee bit jealous to me.
I really love it..8. caught my ear and won the day {#Angel}

Only after too much whisky. Otherwise she is quite upright.

Lovely song - my favorite on the album. So sadly beautiful.
incredible song
incredible CD
Oh yeah, just right.

Love it.  But it is more of a late night track, rather than a sunny morning toon.

Great contained playing and fitting vocals that suit the overall feel of the track. Maybe some here would prefer some software-enchanced over-emotive vibrato warbling (you know the Pariah Carey, Christine Aquilira way) with the neck veins standing up to show FULL performance.  Me, i prefer the restraint.

Nice one Bill.

Drone Drone Drone....Is it over yet ?
I'm not as big a fan of her as Bill is.

Rocks
This is a heart-breaker ... but so beautifully sung.

I detest autotuning, but something needs to be done for Joan's flat vocals on this one.....
I really enjoy listening to this album.
A must have for any music collection.  She has an amazing voice and her song writing in wonderful!

This song has a near-perfect rhythm section, lead guitar, and vocals. Who could ask for more? (Well, maybe the melody...)
Wow, I was about to give it at least a 7 when I saw I'd already rated it with a 2. Must be one of those songs that you have to be in the mood to appreciate.
God, memories. This lady taught me a lot about singing.
That feral growl thing. Cool Joan has some amazing chops better suited to other material. Her contributions to "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" are exceptional.

I heartily disagree. The manner in which she wraps her voice around various notes and bends them ... she is First Class in my book. In concert (Lilith Fair, etc, she has the most incredible stage presence. And yes her band is most excellent.
Good musicians, lousy singer.

I agree. This is a fine collection of tunes. Joan's got a great voice.
my ears are bleeding - not good.
She is a Blues singer, yes the blues. I saw her once live and she blew the house away.
This is a great CD, check it out, you will not be disappointed.
oh shut up you.
She's a very gracious and witty lady. If you are nearby, she is at the Nugget in Sparks, NV tonight and there are some tickets left.
This was always one of my favorite cd's.
Plaintive, painful and remorseful... she carries the emotions off well. A song well executed.

Listening to this, you'd think she couldn't sing, but if you've seen her belt out "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted?" on "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", you'd know she can!

If that's your definition of singing, then yes she can.
Hey - wait a minute - I think I wrote this in high school.
Beth Orton morphed so perfectly into this, I didn't realise it wasn't Beth Orton. Until I gradually became aware that someone was playing a slowed-down recording of a cat being repeatedly hit with a plank of wood. Awful, dirge, drone, kill-self-now, arrghhh ...
Chick can SING
But please god not on my radio. Take her round you place if you must.
mezzanine wrote:
Why does she sound pitchy to me?
I answered my own question after listening to the whole song. It's because she is pitchy.
Aweful. Sounds like half-assed whining, half-hearted nihilistic quality.
it's a shame she didn't keep the band she had for this record. The musicians on it and the songs they brought were every bit as important as Joan herself for the success of this disc.

More like Feeling What You're Drinking. Thanks for coming out, though!

Just recently purchased this CD. Don't know what took me so long, it's fantastic!!

this song undoes me completely...shimmers in the dark and hurts so good. She sounds so uncharacteristically vulnerable here all the longing of kd land and bitterness of lucinda williams, and that guitar rips my heart out
... don't quite get the 'bitterness of lucinda williams ' bit but it sure is a positive rave for Joan, really hits the nail on the head love this song!
This song does sound a bit lame on its own. But for some reason when I hear it in the context of the whole album...it fits.
Would someone please stick a pacifier in her mouth!?

Agreed - I was more or less ignoring it, and then her voice just got too strained. Painful.
bloody awful. . . droning, monotonous, repetitive, ad nauseam, ad infinitum. . .
