What does this ship bring to me
Far across the restless sea
Waiting for the sirens' call
I've never seen it here before
There she plies a lonely trade
Cutting through the breaking waves
Drifting slowly from her course
She is lost forever more
We all want some kind of love
But sometimes it's not enough
To the wall and through the door
With a stranger on the shore
I won't desert you
I don't know what to say
I really hurt you
I nearly gave it all away
I've got it all wrong
Cause you were not the wrong one
And I don't know where to turn when you're gone
When you're gone
Gotta catch the midnight train
First to Paris then to Spain
Travel with a document
All across the continent
City life is flying by
The wheels are turning all the while
Get on board we can't be late
Our destination cannot wait
All the stars and all the worlds
Filling up this universe
Could never be as close as us
Will never shine as bright on us
I won't desert you
I don't know what to say
I really hurt you
I nearly gave it all away
I've got it all wrong
Cause you were not the wrong one
And I don't know where to turn when you're gone
When you're gone
I won't desert you
I don't know what to say
I really hurt you
I nearly gave it all away
I've got it all wrong
Cause you were not the wrong one
And I don't know where to turn when you're gone
How many times must I lose my way, hey
How many words do I have to say, hey
What can I do just to make you see
That you're so good for a man like
A man like me
Far across the restless sea
Waiting for the sirens' call
I've never seen it here before

Cynaera and Melissab are two.
We shared the same taste in music. Melissa even sent me a poster she knew I would like.
I still have it on a wall in my garage and think of her every time I see it.
Dang, Now I'm sad.
back in 2008 i had just moved to lexington from buffalo - thank god - and i remember talking with melissab on the phone. we were discussing making plans to meet up. you can guess what happened - well, didn't get to happen. very sad.
yes, and cynaera's comments are amazing to see after all these years, i love stumbling upon one. especially when there's a story she shares.

i never would have thought this was new order. i can't think of who i thought it sounded like, but definitely not new order. yet, i like it!
Love to hear New Order on RP or any recording truly...but dear lord, avoid the live experience at any cost. It'll just about ruin them for you...imagine Milli Vanilli with less dancing and zero enthuiasm but the same amount of pre-recorded backing tracks.
I don't know what happened to these guys. Same old stuff, rehashed. Samey, samey...
Heard this from another room, and was drawn to discover the creator. And now to uncover their other music. This could be m0re fun than the original mission for this Saturday. Wash the dog.

Despite the negative criticism, this song makes me dance. Guess I'm too simple-minded for the very elite and erudite musical geniuses here.

This is like eating fast food, you don't want to do it very often but when you do it's not that bad!

Shines like teen spirit and bioluminescence.
Love it. But it makes me wonder, what would Ian Curtis have thought about this?

Yet another New Order rip off
Wait a minute, this is New Order.
Nevermind.

Thought I knew all their stuff but perhaps should reword that to I already knew all of their stuff I wanted to know. Pretty bland from a band with such cred.
Ps thanks for the tip coloradojohn I never knew dinosaurs were wifi enabled. I'll be having a word next time I'm at the natural history museum.

Very nice!
Great! and great memories! This and Dakota by Stereophonics were all over the only radio station I could pull in from my rented farmhouse in the Amiata region of Tuscany the winter and spring of '05...every day and night, this song played (and the other; thus they are eternally and favorably linked in my mind), a couple of times, the whole three months I was there...never got sick of it. It was an FM station out of Roma that only came in sometimes, and thankfully, often just when I was tired of my own iTunes collection. There was no Wi-Fi in that whole area so no RP; in fact, the only Internet access was a beat-up dinosaur in the often closed (and always freezing!) 'community room' next to a vintage 70s foosball table in the 500 year-old Santa Fiora town office building; yes it was a gorgeous and medieval-type remote and disconnected place but songs like this one made it feel less so in ways and times that really seemed to matter. There are some things that only music can do, connect, and forever link up to. Thanks for the memories, New Order, Italia, and RP!
They're at the Coachella this weekend... one of the reasons I wish I could drive the 3 miles and go see them.

Happy little tune...I like it
Didn't know there was any newer than 1990's. but I was thinking how awesome this sone was and then read new order...not any that I had heard and I'm a fan...super treat.
First time I've heard this tune, and maybe even the band. More musical education a la Bill and RP. Nice song. 2005? It has quite the 80s feel. Reminds me of a slew of bands. I like it. Mellow, danceable, upbeat, kind of happy but wistful too. One of my kind of tunes.
Perfect
I find that there's something essentially sweet in the musical arc of New Order. We who live have all grown older. Some kicking and screaming and some with grace. While those who fell, like Ian Curtis, never lived to see their children become smarter and smugger.
Embrace it, the alternative is more grim.

Sounds like you're working through some real personal sh*t with these guys, Fred. No one's gonna criticise you for liking most, but not all of their music. They were truly great once, and they're not anymore. Somehow we'll all have to find the strength to soldier on.
I used to really like New Order, back in the 80s when Blue Monday was the biggest ever selling indie single in the UK, and technically their 90s stuff was pretty good (I bought at least two CDs) but what really gets my goat these days is the sheer bourgeois smugness and complacency in the lyrics, which are often irritatingly patronising. They've gone from fast-living rockers (if they ever were) to menopausal men, and their songs are now preachy rather than edgy. I know, they're a great dance/techno band and the lyrics are often not worth bothering with, but I can't help but listen to them and think: you smug f*ckin' bar steward. Is this just me?
Oh, and the singer is seriously sh1te live - I've seen footage of a couple of open air gigs they've done (Glastonbury once, I think) and yer man's voice was weak and out of tune.
I've now ditched my recent CDs of them and instead enjoy sounds from their zenith, when they had edge and attitude and were innovative.

About time someone played this sh*t! Cause it's awesome!!! SERious yo!
They still got it.
there is such SPARK in this album...

What, you don't think an image of ships moored to the dock is appropriate for an album called "Waiting for the Sirens' Call"? You don't think they're talking about police sirens, do you?

This is excellent.
I passed on this New Order album when it was first released, but I am changing my mind after hearing this song. The ability to write perfect pop songs is still going strong.

I have to agree. I really love New Orders work, but their stuff recently has sucked completely off the meter.
The photo on the cover really does my heart good. Can just ignore the lyrics and listen to the sound of singing and great instrumentation and pretend I am visiting in Hong Kong with my mother again instead of being here in my current life. Thank you so much. This is like a heartsplint. Love the guitar!

This song gives me restless legs syndrome.

After Joy Division.... "The Best" !!!!!!!!!!!!
Argh... This is one of the worst songs on the album along with "Krafty"... I just don't like the whole simplistic trippy happy rock sound.
Pop music at its best. No, the music doesn't break any new grounds, Bernard Sumner still can't sing and the lyrics are almost childishly simplistic. Still, it all makes for a great, uplifting listen. Junk food for thought.
a great pop song from a great pop band
This song isn't bad. But it is a little tame and you can tell the band has completely mellowed. Not that there is anything wrong with that .

I disagree. Nice job Bill!
New Order tracks should always have Joy Division songs precede them!!!

Their latest effort doesn't come close to matching Get Ready overall, though I might give this song a few more listens.
The light guitar at the end evokes a little more of the Electronic sound than "traditional" New Order, though I don't hear as much of it through the rest of the track. I'll have to stop by the shop on the way home and pick up a copy, this is good stuff.
Doesn't seem that bad to me...
Is it over yet?
