See me comin' to town with my soul, straight down out of the world at my fingers,
Holdin' on to the devil I know, all my troubles will hang on your trigger.
Take your eyes and the knife to the bone, shoot your mouth if you know where you're aimin'.
Don't forget to pick up what you sow, talking trash to the garbage around you.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
See me kicking the dog with my boots, broke down out in a ditch of old rubbish.
Snakes and bones at the back of your room, handin' out a confection of venom.
Heaven's drunk on the poison you use, charm the wolves in the eyes of a gambler.
Now I seem to come to you, hammer my bones on the anvil of daylight.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
I won't give up that ghost,
It's sick the way these tongues are twisted.
The good in us is all we know,
There's too much left to taste that's bitter.
I won't give up that ghost,
It's sick the way these tongues are twisted.

Love Beck!! More please BillG!
Good Tune!
This just jams with all skills on all levels of bad-assedness. I love the way that Beck is such a musical chameleon! I love his wild genius!

Hate for scientology is NOT religious bigotry. This is a group that will prevent you from talking to your friends or family if they disagree with the "religion." The fact that they have a tax free status after pulling crap like Operation Snow White sickens me.

Love, love, love Beck... but does anyone else find his concert persona a little misanthropic? The stylings of the concert are always great (puppets and light shows!) but I always feel he's a somewhat contemptuous for the audience, like he's saying "I'll play, but the fact screaming fans are there effects me in no way whatsoever." Thoughts? Does he just hate Vancouver?

The difference is the controversy about the nature and history of Scientology. Admittedly, most religions have their cult-like aspects, but Scientology has had some unique issues. Read up on it and you'll probably see the same distinctions.

Like Tom Cruise movies now: I enjoy, but I feel REALLY bad about it, like I do when I shop at Wal Mart.

And that Cat Stephens guy? Muslim. Which means he's probably a terrorist. Sufjan Stephens, I hear, is a Protestant, which really kindof figures. I disliked him BEFORE I found out he's a mainstream plain-vanilla Christian. Oh, and Bob Dylan? Jewish Christian. Or actually I think he's an ex-Christian. Bad enough. I liked him before, too. Arlo Guthrie is also a Jew, so I have to hate him now, too. Bono is also a Christian, so now I have to despise U2. Like I needed a reason. I actually need to do some research on all the musicians I like to find out if they share my many religious prejudices. Hopefully I can whittle the list of musicians I like down to zero. It's fun to hate. Ha ha!

You find Beck AND snowflakes unpleasant? Perhaps it's just you.
I used to think that Odelay was issued to everyone that moved to the suburbs, like that tiny carton of Tide in the mail.
I don't have anything else to add. Hell, I'm not even ranking this song. I'm that apathetic about Beck.

Erm? I wouldn't use this kind of flavorful language to describe even my most loathed artists.
Beck at the very least shows his musical diversity and wears his fruitloop personality on his sleeve.
Out of curiosity, did you not like his more minimalist arrangements for his album Sea Change either? I'm just taking a stab to see if an accoustic based album would be less grating as it seems you're not fond of certain electronically propelled efforts.
And I don't know if it's totally fair to compare him to Moby. Moby peaked with his album Play and has been loosing most of his won fans ever since. Beck is still a slow steady build of steam in popularity.
You know what they say, if you're in the minority, be prepared to support your views with a lot more thought and detail than the majority.
Just some thoughts.

I thought this sounded uncharacteristically ballsy and tolerable for mr. beck.
I knew Beck was amazing. Still, startling and impressive how well he holds up against the Beatles, which is playing now (Hey Bulldog, from Yellow Submarine).
LOVIN' BECK. 9 for the entirety of Guero!

Loving all the tracks Bill spins from this CD.
Saw him at the Wilkins Auditorium in St Paul last night. He puts on a FUN show. I highly recommend seeing him if he makes it to your town. :)
The video for this is the closest thing I've ever seen to some of my dreams... very difficult to explain in words but here it's visualized!
How does this guy do it? Musically, he makes no sense, lyrically he makes no sense-- If Beck was a fictional character, his career a plotline, I wouldn't buy it for a minute.
But IT WORKS! Guero makes two outstanding cds in a row. This man, who should have been over years ago, has developed a catalogue of work that's even more richly compelling than it is bewildering. And listenable, too! Again, I ask... HOW does he do it!
Just dropped from 8 to 6 on my list. Too much air isn't good for this beck track.
I tried, but can't hear the special things in this song other people apparently hear in it. It's too much middle of the road to me, nothing special. I could almost say: boring.
Really enjoying the new Beck. It's become the soundtrack to my summer. Too bad I missed him at the Rose Garden this month.
I'm having the greatest time with this current set!
Finally, a Beck song I can rate at least Acceptable. Feels wrong to my soul not to criticise Mr Beck at all, so... Beastie Boys sample? Tsk, sonic cribbing as usual. There, that's better.
7, maybe a 6.
Happy birthday, Beck! \:D/

Yes, I think it's just because of the sample - that seems to be the case with lots of other songs on Guero as well. That's what I assume reading the liner notes, anyway.
It seems that if you've used a sample from a song, you have to state that your song is "co-written" with the people who wrote the original song.. Even if it's only the small sample you use. Maybe that's the policy everywhere these days.
This song rocks! I give it 8.

Damn I just got goose bumps....Dogs to E-Pro!
BTW, anybody catch Beck on Nightline? Killer piece on his art.
"Hoochie Coochie" to "Dogs of Lust" to "E-Pro" -- once again, radio paradise delivers an excellent mix!
Yeeeeeeeeeah...now you're bringin me through my morning with the same Beck!
I think what I enjoy about this song is the interesting vocal line on the "chorus" (I suppose nananananana is a chorus...) and the intervals between the voice and guitar/bass notes.
this is fun.
Not my favorite kind of Beck..but it is enjoyable in its repetiveness
Awwww yeah...bringin' me through the afternoon with some tasty Beck!
What a comeback!!! Woooo-hoo! This song's groove caught me up in the first riff, kissed me passionately, then got stuck in my head for days. Guero CD hasn't left the player since it came out.
My general comment on Beck is that it was interesting to
watch how he became sort of like an elder statesman for
the industry after his first or second album.
Much deserved, might I add.
This guy rocketed to the top............
You know, as this guy continues to progress, I compare him more and more with Todd Rundgren. Which, of course, is a compliment to Beck and hopefully not an insult to Todd.
I decided to look up the lyrics, because I'd heard this often enough (and at high enough volume!) that I thought I was beginning to actually recognize WORDS -- specifically, I thought I heard him mentioning the Thompson Twins, twice. Well, apparently I was mistaken, as you can see here. Now the problem is, having actually READ the lyrics, I still have absolutely no idea what they mean! (Not that it matters; it's still great to hear)
Beck is absolutely an envois for the creative process turned into pop genre! Love him!
Watch the video. Lyrics are listed there also.
Beck sure wears his influences on his sleeves, but man what funky sleeves.... \:D/

Damn. I might have to raise this to a 9.
I've heard very few repeats on RP, with the exception of this which I think I've heard at least 6 times in the past week. I didn't like it at first, but its growing on me.
Beck is so good, so original. Anyone heard the remix to this song? It's filled with samples from Nintendo games, it's great. After Sea Change, Beck needed to break it down again and be fun.
This song kicks ass! Another classic tune by Beck fo sho'.
Not disappointed. Beck is the man. Though a short, sad-eyed and slightly twisted one.

Heard this one a few times on the radio... It's growing on me. I also heard another song off the album that I liked. Had all sorts of tasty 8-bit sounds in it.
Awesome - I'm blown away by every new sound he makes... its never the same things twice, but it is always distinctly Beck. \:D/
