Different....huuummmm love the Indian undertones
yes, but it's the overtones that hurt - what's with the high-pitched ringing?!?!

You forgot to add "crap" to that definition.
Now THIS part rocks!
Brimful of Asha ... gets a 45! This gets a 2 for now.
Swamirrific!

If you're going to play Indian influenced music why not Kiran Ahluwalia? She's both authentic and fabulous to listen to.
Cornershop are authentic as products of the cross-fertilization between migrants and their new communities. They don't pretend to be 'authentic' Indian. This is post-colonial Anglo-Asian pop.

Me neither. Couldn't get enough when I first got this disc back in '98.
I love these guys...convienent or not. Throw the Indian pop stuff in anytime. Especially STRINGS.
Annoying spelling.
Yeah, me too. (as in, working /hanging out with Indians, aka South Asians) I like the people and the music. Don't know and don't care why - just do. Food's good too. ;-) Cynthia from beautiful hilly side san jose Bob from Beautiful San Jose wrote: I find I'm diggin' the Indian stuff. Maybe it's all the Indians I work with. I adore Indian ragas, world music, and sitar, but this just lacked a spark...and ended up seeming kinda long and repetitious. Not bad, not great, either.
ugh make it stop...

Really thought I was going to like it, but it seemed to run out of gas about half way through, bummer

that'd be Preston, Devon and Birmingham, America then. or as it's perhaps better known, England.
I laughed when I saw the name of this group since "go down to the cornershop and grab a pint of milk will you?" is such a common phrase heard across Britain. (I was stationed there with the U.S.A.F. for 9 years.) Here is an excerpt from Amazon.com -
Reviewer: Daniel J. Hamlow (Farmington, NM USA) A cornershop is the British equivalent of a convenience store. It's also the name of Tjinder Singh's Asian-dance-rhythm-scratch-loops group. It's an exotic collection that smells of super hot curry vindaloo, chapatis, popadoms, and chutney. Product Description: Roni Sarig For all the talk of this record's blend of South Asian and northern English pop sounds, the music here sounds neither daringly cross-pollinated nor strangely juxtaposed. Rather it sounds like a rather conventional pop record, one that harkens back to the days when pop didn't have to be sonically conservative and genrespecific. Cornershop's willingness to make a pop record, rather than its desire to reconcile its leader's British and Indian heritage, is what makes this a great breakthrough album. From Amazon.com listing.

Good one, a nice change of pace.
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama,Hare, Hare. ... and the sitar still burns...
great disc - one of my faves of the late 90's

Based on the strength of just this song, I would never ever think of buying this album. I love music from all over the world and I realize this comes from America, but in such a bastardized form, it has no appeal. Kinda like a southern Florida "Spanish Style villa". It has all the stylings, but none of the spirit.
UK. And it isn't as if it's Bruce Willis doing the style hodgepodge. It's Tjinder Singh. That adds a little credibility to it, I think.
I can never hear too little of this one
WTF?! MAKE IT STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!! Now I know I'm gonna be humming this tune all day...arrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhh
can NEVER hear enough of this one.

Ouch, time to switch to the LRC!
I am unable to rate this sone. . . I can'd decide if I like it or hate it. I definitely noticed it!
Pretty bad, but nothing like the idiocy of Brimful of Asha.
press 1 for swahellie!

Well, I happen to adore Brimful of Asha. But yeah, there's lots more to this band than a single pop song. This album is very strong. I strongly recommend anyone and everyone to give it a listen.
Sometimes keeping an open mind can be painful to the ears...
WoW!

That was different--but thanks for uploading it. I didn't know that Cornershop did stuff that traditional. It is good to have your ears exposed to something new once in a while.
smOkin. Good one c-t-m!
This isn't normally my cup of tea, but I kind of like this one.
Great. I've only heard "Brimful of Asha" off this album, which is good too.
