I love Big Country. Their last studio album (Driving to Damacus, 2001?) was their best ever, IMO. It's great when a band can release so much good stuff. I keep discovering new stuff that makes me like them even more. Case in point: I have over 10 Big Country albums and have never heard this song.

I liked it until the vocals began. Then even the riff lost it's appeal.

I almost lost patience with this one... there it goes.

The thing about his voice is that you either find it very lovely, calming and tender; or you find it to be irritating. I think this band is very complex and alluring musically. His voice is unique and equally alluring. And although they may seem dated in the 80s, their music is still vibrant.

Not spectacularly bad, but not something I desperately need to hear again. The singing is flat.

To me this song sounds dated (i.e. firmly planted in the 80s), but the Kinks' Victoria that played just before doesn't. As they say in my native state--Go figure.

i remember when this band broke. i remember the hype. they were supposed to be the next big thing. the next U2 it didnt work out that way. on the other hand i like this one.

Thanks, John. I always liked their big hit, but couldn't see to invest in any of their CDs. Thanks for turning me on to some of their other product.

My upload! When I first discovered RP and the LRC, it became my mission to make sure RP's listeners were aware that my favorite band had a lot more to offer than "In A Big Country". Now, with the addition of "Chance" and "Over The Border", I hope a few people will be encouraged to check out some of Big Country's back catalogue. With eight studio albums, countless live albums, and several collections of rarities to choose from, I think I'll be able to find a few more RP-worthy tracks before I'm done.

Definitely one of the more underrated bands of recent memory. RIP Stuart Adamson.
