Curling lips, fingertips, dead eye dips
I saw it all in the blackfield
Splinter cracks, summer tracks, paperbacks
We found them all in the blackfield
In the shade, whistle blades, singing fades
In the blackfield
She wants to stay
And talk all day
So I remark
When it gets dark
All the pale things under the earth
Will reverse
River glass, cycle past, overcast
I saw it all in the blackfield
Copper sky, shadows rise, bridge of sighs
We had it all in the blackfield
Skin tracks, face facts, fade to black
In the blackfield
She wants to stay
And talk all day
So I remark
When it gets dark
All the pale things under the earth
Will reverse
I saw it all in the blackfield
Splinter cracks, summer tracks, paperbacks

The first time I've heard this. Nice! 8
..ya don't often see the trifecta of band name, song, & album title being all the same..nor do ya see as solid an 8! as this (& that's just at 1st blush) all the time..

Never heard this song before. Is the rest of this album as excellent?

The track, the band, and the album, all named "Blackfield"—a paragon of eponymy!
Like it, BTW.

Wow. Great cut. Proggy and full of feeling.

Yes, haven't been able to dive into No Man. As for the rest... will the real Mr. Porcupine step forward please?
I like most of Steve's output, except No Man,. He seems to be Porcupine Tree in most of his projects, I wonder who the real Steven Wilson is?
Opeth's last few albums have been mixed by SW, as have King Crimson and Jethro Tull (Aqualung) anniversary re-masters.

The inevitable "are you sure this isn't Porcupine Tree" comments to Blackfield are funny to me precisely because I'm a barometer for the two — I can't stand most PT but I really like Blackfield. To be sure, the similarities are obvious, but to my ear, Blackfield is a distillation of the really good aspects of PT. Obversely, the only PT songs I like are ones that emphasize those aspects and diminish the features that to my mind drag it in the mud (e.g., the amateurish child psychology — I mean, look at it this way, Mr. Wilson, at least you didn't grow up in Akron in the 50s...talk about a blank planet).
But to circle back, yes, love for this song, and it is wonderful, as is a lot of Blackfield.
Sent in reply to Deadwing out of undying respect for her views on all things PT. So we have common ground after all. Ain't music grand?
Nate, You should listen to Stupid Dream, as it is most like Blackfield with its soft sound of rock and roll. And don't start with all the Horst the Hater bullshit, we are well past that (I hope). Steven Wilson is like one of the onions in Shrek, many layers, each revealing much more than the last. As he grows older and wiser, Steven is turning more towards heavy metal, especially the influences of Opeth and Katatonia. And it is funny that Opeth is turning softer, more closer to Porcupine Tree in their latest release "Heritage". Have fun!

Hi Deadwing! Hope all goes well.
I hear Steven is to be seen touring solo in Florida.
I am totally relaxed.
Finally caught this one!!!
Love this song...
The video is very cool too, for anyone who has never seen it.
I'm so happy this one is getting a little airplay now

Always good to hear from you my Dear Nemesis Just the thought of you even grudgingly admitting to somewhat liking any of SW's songs makes my heart purr.

BTW there is an extended version of this song available on Soundcloud under Steven Wilson's tunes. Awesome....
Both Blackfield 1 & 2 have great tunes. I'm not in love with the new one much yet. If you don't have the live DVD of Blackfield you need to pick it up... very nice
Was so excited to see these guys in Toronto. But alas fate intervened and Steven Wilson's Dad passed and it was cancelled. Hope they swing back through now that he's back with Blackfield.
Blackfield is a collaboratory musical group between Porcupine Tree founder and lead singer Steven Wilson and Israeli rock singer Aviv Geffen. (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackfield)
I have this song and have always loved it, but I always thought it was Porcupine Tree, are you sure this isn't Porcupine Tree under a different name or something? This has got to be Porcupine Tree!
