I'm waiting for the night to fall
I know that it will save us all
When everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality
I'm waiting for the night to fall
When everything is bearable
And there in the still
All that you feel is tranquillity
There is a star in the sky
Guiding my way with its light
And in the glow of the moon
Know my deliverance will come soon
I'm waiting for the night to fall
I know that it will save us all
When everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality
I'm waiting for the night to fall
When everything is bearable
And there in the still
All that you feel is tranquillity
There is a sound in the calm
Someone is coming to harm
I press my hands to my ears
It's easier here just to forget fear
And when I squinted
The world seemed rose-tinted
And angels appeared to descend
To my surprise
With half-closed eyes
Things looked even better
Than when they were open
Been waiting for the night to fall
I knew that it would save us all
Now everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality
Been waiting for the night to fall
Now everything is bearable
And here in the still
All that you feel is tranquility
I know that it will save us all
When everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality
I'm waiting for the night to fall

Timeless!
Mr. Martin L. Gore. Perfection.
Running this song through my head does wonders when I have trouble falling asleep. One of my favorite albums of all time.
RIP Andy Fletcher
Rest in Peace, Andrew Fletcher.
I love it when Martin sings
Remember a friend of mine painted a 6x6' version of this album cover on the wall of his dorm room.

Great album! As much as I like Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence, it's nice to hear some deeper cuts. :)

Thumbs down, Bill. Interest turned to boredom then irritation.
At first I thought this was "Intruder" by Peter Gabriel...

Can't decide. Almost brilliant but the rhyming annoys me.
I remember being mesmerized by this song as a teen. Love it still.
David Sylvian comes to mind... Beautiful!
I loved this visuals....
heh, this was my PSD too

It's a perfect match tonight, with the outside sounds suspended by a light snow, enjoying music, randomly reading. Smooth
Dear RP, THANK YOU!
Believe me, I have always wanted to like this. I have tried to like this. There is nothing wrong with this band other than they just cannot compose. They fall short on almost every point of good music. Sorry. It's like a bot wrote this.
still just as haunting after all these years.
I'm glad you include Depeche Mode ... back in the 80's, when I was listening to YOU BILL!! on KLRB, there was so much great music, I didn't bother with the synth bands much. Now it sounds good. Love RP!!
Memories of driving back from holidays back to Paris with my wife sleeping on the passenger seat. She would always fret on the road unless she listened to this album.
Good times.
Good times.
This tune has the angst and decline that their earlier album 'Black Celebration' had. For this, I like this...not great though...

Utopia is but a mere 85 years away for the vast majority of us. Perfection is not to be found on this level.Perhaps after the earth is engulfed by the sun, and the sun goes novae, who knows if our chemistry will aggregate again, and who knows into what? Perhaps a rock in the Andromeda galaxy? Ahhh utopia..

:D How can people rage on Depeche Mode? These guys are the pioneers of so many of the electronic sounds commonly used today. They wrote electronica before computers could automatically generate music so show some appreciation!! Geesh.
PS. Thanks Bill, I am loving what you are playing today. (Oh wait, Bill - are you for real?! Or are you just some random online playlist generator?)

It's been more than six years since I uploaded this track and it's still in rotation! Thanks, Bill!

I wonder if these guys ever considered writing TV or radio jingles for commercials, they would be great at it. Their songs sound like they were generated by some automated computer program for music composition.
It doesn't feel right, not hearing Enjoy the Silence after this.
Imagine what a great place this planet would be, if everyone kept their negativity to themselves, instead of spewing it onto the world.

In all seriousness, "Dépêche Mode" is the name of a fashion magazine. It means, literally "fast fashion," but it's more like "the latest in fashion."

heheheheheheh. Shut up, Beavis.
On a rainy morning like this is, this song is liable to either put me to sleep to make me slit my wrists. Not that I mind DM that much, but if this song lasted any longer, I'd be a goner. Thank God it was followed by Tom Petty (not that he's exactly lively, but it woke me out of my trance at least).
Wow, I can really hear Erasure in this one.
The whole of this album is fantastic. Still sounds great today.
This sounds like god in 5.1 DTS.

I was just thinking that I don't quite like this song, but that I'd probablly think it was great if I could listen to it on a good pair of headphones.

Yeah, it's truly astounding on headphones. That's how I listened to it my first time when it was first released. Even on cassette it was nothing short of a religious experience.
very nice track
a depeche mode-manifesto song.... gothic athmosphere, bouncing electro-rithmycals sounds and a deep Gahan's voice to fix everything.... great!
One of my favorite Depeche Mode songs

I reckon the 128 AAC is just as good and more economical, if that's a consideration, and it is with me, and on headphones beaudiful song!

Zounds. 10/10
This brings back some memories!
I JUST SAW THEM IN CONCERT LAST SATURDAY AND IT WAS SOOOO AWESOME!!! (I know I'm shouting it, but I'm still on a concert high...)
one of my regrets from childhood has always been never seeing them live. So, my sister, my best friend and I went and had one of the best times we've had in a long time :) They were dynamic and fun--the sound mixing was great. The highlight for me was Martin Gore doing a version os Shake the Disease--just him and a piano! I'd never conceived of it being sung that way--it was amazing.
ahhh...DM.
The 5.1 mix of this track supposedly sounds even better, at least according to this review. Unfortunately, I don't have the requisite audio gear to check it out myself. Anyway, this song is godlike even in plain stereo.
toker wrote:
Wow, this really sounds good on the 192 link.
Damn straight. I rated this a 7 way back on the 64k AAC+ stream, but this Hi-def 192k stream offers so much more. It's almost like the stream was made for tracks like this.
Truly sublime.
ditto...sounds great!! The start of this song stopped me in my tracks this morning--haven't heard this in a long while. Had to stop working and listen.

Not too bad on my 128 either. This is an overlooked Depeche cut.

I went to a Clash concert with my brother in the early 80s and found him sleeping in the bleachers during the show ... which was so loud it left me with a raging headache.
Yeah! I finally get to hear this track (my own upload) on RP! Such a soothing and haunting song. It has a "fairy-tale" quality to it I think. The closing synth line is majestic.

beautiful and haunting tune. Thanks for playing, RP!!!
wow. i had totally forgotten about this song!
Wow, I think I was 15 when I listened to this, that brings back memories
I really must get this album now. Put it off for long enough
Such a soothing song. Brings back memories of taking a train to Erie PA back in my college days. It was good music for the back drop of the train trip.

i didn't want to like this. but... i kind of do.
Ah, such memories. Great song. :)
A great CD. Wish I hadn't sold it for FSM knows what ...
