The dawn has come
And the wine will run
And the song must be sung
And the flowers are melting
In the sun
I feel I want to be up on the roof
I feel I gotta get up on the roof
Up, up on the roof
Up, up on the roof
Oh the dawn has come
And the song must be sung
And the flowers are melting
What kind of language is this?
What kind of language is this?
I can't hear a word you're saying
Tell me what are you singing
In the sun
All of the birds are laughing
All of the birds are laughing
Come on let's all join in
Come on let's all join in
I want to be up on the roof
I've gotta be up on the roof
Up, up high on the roof
Up, up on the roof
In the sun
And the wine will run
And the song must be sung
And the flowers are melting
In the sun
I feel I want to be up on the roof
I feel I gotta get up on the roof

It really is funny that people find laughter weird when it is clearly an integral part of the song and is genuine laughter. Y’all need to get the fuck out of your heads and find some joy.

Pretentious, repetitive, annoying, grating ... yep, it's Kate Bush again.
Horrible.

The laughter in this song is just weird.
Never have heard this on RP until today - awesome pull from the vault! A great album overall. [shocked by the low average - interesting..?]
Blackbird singing in the middle of the song

Thats a big range of ratings!
As Kate has walked with me since I was a teenager many years ago, she always gets a 9 from me.

Great album though.

Shudder. The horror, the horror...
I've got this album, and IMO it's worth having but it would have been better edited to just one CD of top-notch songs, rather than padded out to two CDs with indifferent and bad songs. It's a bit like putting water in malt whiskey - it dilutes the quality and leaves the taster missing out on the true experience of the undiluted goodness.
And for sure, there is one execrable song, The Artist, featuring Rolf Harris, which should never have seen the light of day. Appalling, even before Harris was convicted for kiddy-fiddling. With luck, future pressings of Aerial will be censored of that earache of a song on account of Harris being as popular as Rudolph Hess these days...
Sorry Kate, this is a clear-cut case of taking one's-self far too seriously. I have visions of the creativity process for this track... "Let's, let's , I know... happiness, lauging and and, and BIRDS, we must have BIRDS. Tweeting. Twittering. Tweeting. Birds and then I sing a bit, with the birds, or the birds sing with me, and it will be GREAT and everyone will LOVE me". If Madonna and Kate Bush were to make physical contact, somthing quite possibly quantum might happen.

This album is an absolute masterpeice! Worth the very long wait!
I love the birds, the laughter, the weird bits, everything that people dislikes. The problem is the poor melody and the boring, monotonous and simply bad unending guitar solo.
Not one of the best in Aerial (though it's better put in context). And why are all records by Kate getting airplay except the best of them all?
This is a great song, people, but you're hearing it out of context! It's the last song of a "concept", which is the entire second disc. The guitarist is Danny McIntosh, her partner, father of her son, and guitarist on the entire album.
If you listen to the entire disk in the order in which is was intended, this is the glorious crescendo, the day breaking after the long, romantic night, communion with the birds and the sun....it literally sent shivers up my spine when I first heard it.

I don't get it either, Platy. And I sincerely try to do so every time BillG plays her.

This blows!
OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH MY GOD KATE IS BACK!!!!
Im so freaking happy theres a new Kate album!!
Who cares about them birds for crissakes? It's a DOUBLE album! And I can hear David Gilmour playing in this track!! Have I died and gone to heaven or what
WOW!
I've been a Kate Bush fan for decades. In particular, I've always appreciated her 'pushing-the-boundaries' approach to music, combined with a voice to match the tunes. I love this new song, and am heading to the iTunes store right now. Thanks, Bill
(Two days later):
Well, iTunes doesn't have it yet, so I had to go down to the local record shop and buy the CD. I agree with what others have said below: I don't think one can adequately rate this song without having listened to the whole album. What a beautiful and moving piece of art Kate has created. I appreciate her more and more all the time.
Don't like the laughing, but do like the guitar on this track...anyone know who's on the axe?
Painful! Gratuitous laughter is far more insulting than gratuitous sex!
The bird chirping and Kate laughing like she is high on drugs is really really annoying! Bad Kate
Well...either she or the bird does a good job keeping up, at least that.

Unfortunately, hearing this song does not entice me to purchase the entire album.

Cool birds man. Are we in the Tiki room??
She's a mad woman, I tells yer!

poor birds...they came out so nicely...
Very disappointing.
Ick
You GO Kate!
Let it out!
The only thing worse than birds and laughing in a song is forced-laughter and fake (sounding at least) birds in a song.
This made me go to the trouble to log in just to change to Kink FM for the remainder of this "song", and whine. Yes, I admit it, I am whining. Feel free to hate me for it.
I know I'm getting this CD for Christmas, so please keep my fix coming until then RP!
Same here - I have a soft spot for ole' Kate, but all that cackling and tweeting made me reach for the mute button.
birds and laughter, ?????
next one with crying and toads please

I think I know what you're talking about. Sheesh.
I don't dig the laughing. Maybe if it was just 10 seconds...
I LOVE Kate Bush -- but this song....
I've heard this song more than 4 times during the last 2 weeks...no please...too many birds for me...
Anyways...the CD booklet implies that this waveform-like thing on the cover is the "soundwave of blackbird song". Looks about right. For a blackbird, that is, in the dead of night.

So I am not the only one on the planet who has laughed with the birds. She can't be that bad
Actually, I like everything I've heard from this new album so far and I was never a KB fan.
I just bought this album and I think it's definately one that requires multiple listens to evaluate. First time I heard it I was kind of like--OK--but the more I listen to it I feel like it draws me in. You definately have to be in the right kind of mood to listen though. And I think it helps to listen to this album as a whole rather than song by song. More of a concept album.

Its time for this song to end
A bird in the Bush?
A bird in hand is better than a bird in a Kate Bush song.
did i miss something... is this kate bush radio now?
the giggling has got to stop.
that bird just about gave me a heart attack
well, I'm excited about this album...not sure about this song yet.
EDIT:
ok, the birds are freaking my cat out
Finally! I've waited a long time for a new album!
