I'm really close tonight
And I feel like I'm moving inside her
Lying in the dark
And I think that I'm beginning to know her
Let it go
I'll be there when you call
And whenever I fall at your feet
You let your tears rain down on me
Whenever I touch your slow turning pain
You're hiding from me now
There's something in the way that you're talking
The words don't sound right
But I hear them all moving inside you
Know
I'll be waiting when you call
Hey, and whenever I fall at your feet
Won't you let your tears rain down on me?
Whenever I touch your slow turning pain
The finger of blame has turned upon itself
And I'm more than willing to offer myself
Do you want my presence or need my help?
Who knows where that might lead
I fall
Whenever I fall at your feet
Won't you let your tears rain down on me?
Whenever I fall (at your feet)
Whenever I fall
And I feel like I'm moving inside her
Lying in the dark
And I think that I'm beginning to know her
Let it go
I'll be there when you call
And whenever I fall at your feet
You let your tears rain down on me

The harmonies from the Finn brothers when they start singing the second last stanza, truly one of the best harmonies you're ever likely to hear.
Just gorgeous.
To me, Neil Finn is one of the greatest songwriters ever, and this is a great example. Plus, his airy falsetto gets me all gooey.
Fantastic album that has never received its full due.
The problem with listening to CH is that Paul is no longer with us. He was such a part of this band. Vale Paul sadly missed.

Nice. It's amazing how a song can take you to that exact place & time.
This album reminds me of a great drive from NH to Stowe VT in 1991. Being newly married, no kids, October days, not much money in our pockets, hardly any responsibility except trying to figure out where to stay the next few nights. Such a long ways ago. sweet times.

Pleasant monotonous driving music. Overated, but at least they are good musicians.
Always marvelous.
I'd always liked this group, but never got blown away by them until this landmark album... It awakened me to the astounding musical genius of Neil Finn and the talent and enigmatic personalities of his band-mates. They were at their best on this and "Together Alone."
Been listening to Crowded House for 30 years, saw Jesse Cook live do this song as a encore, was wonderful the whole audience singing. Must be CH fans...
There's no shame whatsoever in loving Crowded House! I'm proud to say that I do!

Okay, RP this is a first for me after many years of support and listening: For Gawd's sake, please stop playing multiple Finn Bros tunes every day!! I am beating my head against the wall now because of the commercial radio-grade repetition. Too much of a good thing is ... TOO MUCH. I love The Beatles, but would speak up the same if I heard this same kind of repetition of their work, and the Finn Bros are no Beatles.

Believe it - definitely 10. Also it may not have been a big song overseas but start this in a bar full of Aussies or Kiwi's and watch the majority of people sing along.

it is most excellent, and reading down the comments I find great praise from so many beautiful people, it's a continuing joy reading through it all! Peace my friends
Those first few albums by this band defined a period of pop music that was maddeningly brief and beautiful.
A pop masterpiece. Finn's voice is sublime. Sometimes after I hear this I have to hit mute for anything that follows so I can just absorb the after-effects of it all. And as others have noted, Jesse Cook's version is also lovely.
he could sing the phonebook and it would be excellent.

One of the best albums of the 90's, beginning to end.
Great tune. Sentimental and sweet.
Cool! A month has gone by and here is this gem again, reminding me how solid it is...and how it used to rivet me to the spot — and still does!
Is it really possible that this is already over 21 years old? What a line-up they had on this record and tour, and what an incredible show they gave us at CU's Macky Auditorium that summer! and whoah, what a fantastic collection of excellent songs on this record. MAGIC! I still put it on often, and let it play through and again...there is something both melancholy and intensely joyful about the whole effect... I LOVE CH!

I do not know the versions discussed here, but this song by the Crowded House is included in my life's soundtrack, a beautiful song...

Yes I've always felt this wonderful song is slightly let down by the production here. Would have loved to hear what Youth could have done with it - much preferred his style on 'Together Alone' to that of Mitch Froom on the earlier albums.
Much prefer the Jesse Cooke version. I heard it performed live in a small acoustically perfect venue; an absolute delight.

Not bad, but the Jesse Cook version with Chris Church on vocals has much more passion, sounds much less mechanical. I'd pick it over this any day.

What does that even mean, and how can it possibly be relevant to the quality of their music?
The Rolling Stone reviewer took offense to the depiction of certain social strata in this country in the song "Chocolate Cake." I, OTOH, thought it was hilarious. And, no, it had nothing to do with the quality of the music. Even for Rolling Stone, which can get out there, this particular review was wa-a-a-a-ay out there.
