Take a breath
Take a deep breath now
Take a breath
A deep breath now
Take a breath

When you're down is where you find yourself
When you're drown there's nothing else
If you're lost you'll need to turn yourself
Then you'll find out that there's no one else

To make the moves that you can do
When you fall from grace your eyes in blue
Your every breath becomes another world
And the far horizon's living hell

Take a breath
A deep breath now

This kind of love is hard to find
I never got to you by being kind
If I'm the one to throw you overboard
At least I showed you how to swim for shore

When you're down is where you'll know yourself
Then if you're drown there's nothing else
When you're lost you need to find yourself
Then you'll find out that there's no one else

I have two Monday Morning Producer comments to make, one applies to the album as a whole: This song isn't bad, but could be much better if David would have mustered a more angry, abrasive voice -- I know he can do it. Where is the percussion? Just barely present enough to remind you that there's a beat to the music. This is something that should have been be beefed up throughout the entire album.

Well, I dare say David Gilmour was never very kinetically dynamic on stage, even in youth. IMHO, though, his nightly excursions in playing Comfortably Numb during that PULSE tour remains for me a thrilling testament to the power of the marriage of melody, emotion and technique. Beauty (or style) must be in the eye of the beholder. He may have physically aged like a normal human, but those fingers on the fretboard haven't, and, as a women, let me say that I will drape myself over his amp anyday in appreciation of his musical talent :-) - (ok - that's mostly tongue-in cheek)

This song really came to life - in a major way - in his live concerts this past summer, what with the lasers, smoke, extended guitar break and surround-soundy effects.
I agree with that. The song was 10 times better live than the studio version. Which I think is one of the weakest song on his album.

All this stuff about Gilmour trying to be PF is just kinda silly. Gilmour was not PF but he was assuredly the guitar voice of PF. And its a distinctive voice at that. I don't think he could do anything involving guitar that people wouldn't try to compare to PF. IMHO its time to give it a rest! He can't change the sound of his guitar voice and shouldn't be required to try in order to keep people from attacking him for trying to revive PF.

the most floydish of a very unfloydish release. Good, but unfloydish.

Agreed. I like it.
totally agree with both of you. The "nay sayers" themselves, would have difficulty distinguishing Gilmours stylings from PF. I love this disc!
There's no way outta here

David Gilmour doesn't do Floyd justice? IMO, he IS Floyd.
Ah...Don't forget Mr. Waters. The Wall was pretty much his. Okay track...as much as I love Gilmour, his solo stuff all starts running together for me.
Terrible.
This. Song. Owns. Period.

Love this album. The man still has it in my opinion. He is not trying to do a PF album here, so stop with the comparisons. But the unmistakable sound of Gilmour is hard to distance from PF.

Is this "The Wall"? Oh wait, it's "Final Cut" or maybe it's "The Blue"..... Gilmour's stuff is all the same, in my opinion. While I'm a big fan of The Wall and Final Cut, I think this album (On an Island) was created just to showcase his guitar playing. David, we've heard that riff over and over and over and over and over.... Can't you give us something new and FRESH?!
I am sorry, read the liner notes to the Wall or Final Cut? Granted Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb are DG songs, but those two, especially Final Cut, are solely Waters' albums. Actually, this new album reminds me of DG stuff pre-Dark Side. Somewhere between Umagumma and Echos. Quaint, but his solo stuff is not meant to be PF.

Album is awful, agreed. Brain part, not agreed.
IMHumbleO, Gilmour doesn't try to be PF, but to exhibit a different version of his music. The composition is not ellaborate (a couple of keys on most of the song) nor as inspired as his ensemble work, but it's well executed and his guitar work truly inspired. I find the same resistance from fellow listeners when my favourite musician/composer/singer, Ian Anderson, does solo work. He is not trying to write another Aqualung, but deliver new experiences through his own style, free of influences from the group. The result may not be for everyone (and certainly not to those who expect everything coming out of him to sound as the classic tunes), but I admire its beauty nevertheless. I realise now how The Division Bell came about, even if Mason may have had some input on those compositions. The feel and depth are similar to this. Maybe DG should have just recorded another PG record.

certainly not his strongest work

Has a bit of the Led Zep Kashmir stomp to it; I dig it.

Guitar licks reminiscent of the finer works of Richard Marx.
Actually, the first Richard Marx song I heard - "It Don't Mean Nothin'" had Joe Walsh playing guitar on it, I believe. Now there's a true original axeman!

That's actually the first time Richard Marx and guitar licks appear in the same sentence.

True, he is behind much of Floyd's music ... but he certainly is not Floyd themselves. Floyd is an entirely differnt entity in my book.
and oh by the way, which one's pink?

Definitely not his best work, but I didn't have a problem with it. Just not too entralled. And I LOVE his guitar sound normally. *edit* it's growing on me

Started off ok but then just didn't go anywhere. A shame because I kinda liked the overall sound of the thing.
Disappointing
I love it. Just hearing that guitar is worth a 7.......................... Normand
Plods along with grim, dull determination. Sad, really.
Not his best work, but still a decent song.
