YES YES YES! Room for Squares is a really good cd. You're missing out if you don't give it a try.

Starbucks can take a lot of the blame for that.... Ron Sexsmith says it well in his song "Jazz at the Bookstore"

Miles will do

I'd like to believe this, but I saw Herbie and his band in concert this summer and he has not one, but two below average musicians in his touring band. His guitar player isn't bad, he just spends way too much time playing off key and making animal sounds instead of actually playing. And the violinist? Horrible is the nicest word I can I can associate with her "performance".
One of the few disappointing concerts that I have seen.
I saw Herbie Hancock at The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1994 and he BLEW!
Not that bad, just pretty generic
Herbie Hancock, sure. The weenie John Mayer, no.
Nice to hear John Mayer on RP, I'd like to hear more.

This song is terrible. John Mayer is out of his league in trying to make music with Herbie Hanchock. The reuslt is a reverse synergistic effect (bad music) since Herbie usually doesn't play with average musicians.

agreed. I would be happy to not here Meyer ever again.
Interesting twist of phrase.
May this song help revive some of Mayer's former cachet. 6.
Dating Jessica Simpson is not helping.
bring it...

Like Herbie. Like Mayer. Song has a decent vibe. But this lyrics suck ass.

Another of my favorite vocalists. A mix of Paul Simon, Michael Franks and something unique. And a decent guitarist to boot.
Michael Franks! That's it! I've been hearing someone else in his voice for years and you hit it.
Now i kind of liked that song! i do like john mayer though.
Now play Oscar Peterson or Art Tatum.

That's because he was opening act, I saw him open too and all I can add is that he holds back...way back. Go see him when again when he comes to town on his own, you'll have a blast.
Agreed. at least in the past, Bob was a WILDMAN with Joe Rockhead. I'm talkin' jumping up and down on the bar, howling, wailing, the whole shebang.

sounds like nouvelle Sting.
Eh, I'd rather have "Watermelon Man" with my caramel machiato.

What is that muffled noise between the vocals?
Is Herbie being forced to play against his will?
I'm joking with ya. It's a cool tune. But I really would like to know what the muffled noise is.
The Possibilities are Herbie Hancock getting Stitched Up with John Mayer ?

Herbie Hancock: Possibilities
-or-
Herbie Hancock: Dumbs himself down to meet contractual or fiscal obligations
Like it. But yet again, another artist that reminds me of Bob Schneider of Austin.

I have to admit that I enjoy John Mayer's songs whenever they come out on the radio. Wasn't he the one who sang "Daughters"?

You should check out his live album, "Try!". He's been touring as the John Mayer Trio (Steve Jordan on drums, Pino Palladino on bass) and trying to establish himself as a serious musician. It's mostly hard-driving blues and rock, and it's a pretty cool album IMHO. Of course, I think he's a great musician across the board; you just have to get past the fact that he ended up being a top-40 heartthrob. That's not his fault - could happen to anyone.

Mainstream radio is playing this song to death. I sure didn't expect to hear it here...
I hate this sentiment. Just because a song get airplay does not make it bad. It can become annoying because of overplay. Plus Radio Paradise isn't "No 'mainstream music' internet radio". It is eclectic, which to be eclectic would probably have to have some mainstream AC/DCish songs for it to be truly eclectic.
Thats kind of mellow and jazzy...I like it.
Much better than Dis is Da Drum...
John Mayer? Wow - that's a surprise he sounds awesome!!
I thought it was Jamie Cullum - maybe because of the great Hancock track behind Mayer.
NICE

LOVE IT!!
Good, but -2 for John Mayer
The whole album's pretty cool - not sure why he chose to include "I Just Called To Say I Love You", but everything else is enjoyable.

This is mainstream? Damn, I suck then. I really like it.
See bobrk. See bobrk conform. Conform, bobrk, conform.
:oP
Just because it comes on big time FM stations doesn't mean it will be horrible. Just in 9 out of 10 cases.
it passes by mostly painlessly - especially during a work day

It sucks.
Kidding. Nice one..
Herbie is a genius. This is a commercial effort, probably required by his label. But there have been few musicians with the influence that Herbie has had.
wow! i didn't know about this album!! cool to see raul midon and damien rice on the list! this is where john mayer belongs. good for him for goin' down this path after popdom.
I guess Herbie's pulling a "Carlos Santana" on us. Sounds great to me!
Yeah! my upload!!!! don't be dissin me now...
Exactly how you hear it, is exactly how it all went down...
It was later in the evening
That the facts and the figures got turned around
True, there was a woman
Yes, she did advance my way
And I can't be sure exactly but I swear I saw her say my name
It was the right time
She was the real thing
I had to walk away
Don't wanna be, stitched up out of my mind
Feeling strung out, laggin' behind
All trapped in, can't do a thing because I'm
Locked down
Stitched up, feeling the burn
All strung out, I finally learn that
Trapped in, can't do a thing because I'm
Locked down
I wonder where she came from
I wonder where she's gotta go
Who's to say she's single
And who's to say she's on her own
Girls like that don't sleep alone
(Alright here's the thing, here's the thing)
That girl is flawless, and I know I'm not the first one to think that
And since I'm not the first, I sure won't be the last
I'd spend my whole life looking behind my back
I just don't think I'm up to that
Stitched up, out of my mind
Feeling strung out, laggin' behind
All trapped in, can't do a thing because I'm
Locked down
Stitched up, feeling the burn
All strung out, I finally learn that
Trapped in you can't do a thing because you're
Locked down
Stitched up, out of my mind
Feeling strung out, laggin' behind
All trapped in, I can't do a thing because I'm
Locked down
Stitched up, feeling the burn
All strung out, I finally learn that
Trapped in you can't do a thing because you're
Locked down
Locked down
Stitch me up, string me out
Trap me in, lock me down
Stitch me up, string me out
Trap me in, lock me down
I don't wanna be
Stitch me up, string me out
Trap me in, lock me down
Stitch me up, string me out
Trap me in, lock me down
Because I'm down and down and down
