(Knowledge is power)

Sometimes it gets so hard to listen
Hard for me to use my eyes
And all around the gold is glistening
Making sure it keeps me down to size

I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know a thing about evil
Only wanna know about love

(Knowledge is power)

I'm waitin' for the planes to tumble
Waitin' for the towns to fall
I'm waitin' for the cities to crumble
Waitin' till I see you crawl

I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know a thing about evil

Only wanna know about love

I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love

And yes it's getting hard to listen
Hard for me to use my eyes
And all around the gold is glistening
Making sure it keeps us hyp-n-o-tized

I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know a thing about evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know a thing about evil
Only wanna know about love
I don't wanna know 'bout evil
Only wanna know about love...

It's a mantra.  Sing along.  Remember it.  Or psd.  Which is what I did.  Song idea: 7.  Song itself: 4.  What's the average?
Dammit Bill!  Way to get me to like a song only to know that it's nowhere to be found other than on cd from 1993.  ARRRRRRGHHHHH.      :)

This has gotta be a William Orbit production by the sound of it.
One paragraph in the lyrics speaks loudly to the state of the USA

Wow! You just insulted both of them!

How could you even imagine that John Martyn wouldn't respect Beth Orton, and vice versa?!
Not a BO fan, but this track is very good.
what a insult to John Martyn!!!
Only wanna know about PSD button...
More William Orbit please
Go, Beth! She has such a genius feel for the beat, and always manifests her imagination in the very best and sexiest waveforms. Her sweet voice grabs me by the ears and pulls me in for the nectar, every single time...

Still in love with this song and her voice!
Sometimes it's tough to turn a deaf ear
Tough for me to close my eyes
And all around, shadows are lurking
And I feel compelled to tell a bunch of lies

I don't wanna know about love
Only wanna know about evil
I don't wanna know about love
Only wanna know about evil

I wonder what Weird Al Yankovic would do with this song.

I am blinded by the brilliance of conversations on RP.
Lyricist and performers of this song are directed to The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg, by Mark Twain.

As am I and I prefer listening to this by him although nothin' wrong with Bet's rendition. Haha Just became a member of this community and
that was my first coment on here! Been listening to RP for a while now and lovin' it!!  Thanks all!
A lifeless cover of a wonderful song.  I just don't get the love for Beth Orton, but I also accept that's probably my loss.

Ya know, I have to agree about the repeats. It's a good-sounding song, but way, way repetitive.

A repeating chorus?!?!?  Sacrilege!
"And yes it's getting hard to listen"
Prefer John Martyn tbh
Any idea what she wants to know about? She's not being very clear on the subject.
I'm a huge John Martyn fan and I like this a lot.
very good just about as good as John martyn
A nice adaption. John Martyn's original is a great favourite of mine.

Dunno about a car chase - more like a leisurely drive in the country...
Is that William Orbit backing?

It's a pretty standard, programmable,  electronic back beat which was probably used in hundreds of recordings.
Great track murdered.
I think. .....she doesn't want to know about evil and only wants to know about love...but I'd need to hear it for another 10 minutes until I'm sure
Jon Secada called, he wants the beat back from his hit, 'Just Another Day'.
Good, but not exactly the All on Along the Watchtower conversion of another's song
Another endlessly repetitive banality begging to be muted! Sign of the times?
A very bland and poor pastiche of the original with no new interpretation.
So great !!!

You can't have one without the other.
It takes way too long to get to the actual lyrics.  If the vocal arrangement had been better thought out this could have been really good.
I really want to like this song. It has a really nice trance thing going and is really relaxing but it does get too repetitious. It needs some more verses. Her voice is fine, I like Beth when she is not H overdosing. Maybe too much of a good thing?
I don't like this at all and I normally like her work.
This is awful.

I guess if you're gonna be up all night, you might as well right a song, eh?
Thanx Beth.

That synthy triangle jangling around the periphery of this track is very early 2000s to me. Still a nice tune if not a little too long {#Whistle}

Having watched JM perform the original, BO stinks.

OK that's too harsh, she is redolent of mediocrity. At least she isn't aspirating every word with an H.

Y'know, I keep waiting for her to bring it all to the table..........I do think she has the talent.

This is the only version I've heard so it takes the top! {#Biggrin}

What I have with this track is one of my favourite vocalists singing one of my favourite artists songs and combining to create a decidedly mediocre cover.
This is just a guess on my part, but I don't think she wants to know about evil.

Buy the girl some lyrics.

Nice chill vibe, and Beth's voice is more silky smooth than usual. Agreed a bit repetitive, which can often bug me, but it doesn't so much on this track.

Big JM fan here, and i like this one too.
I really liked the start of this song, then Beth Orton's voice (surprisingly as I usually like her singing) put me off.  But it started picking up as the song went on.  Not sure what to think of this, except I definitely prefer John Martyn's original.

Ask John Martyn, he wrote it.  Heaven forbid a piece of music have repetition.
Someone needs to buy her more lyrics for Christmas.

Nowhere as good as the John Martin version
Hypnotic bliss with an angelic voice. Perfect song for starting my Saturday morning.
Don't read THIS  !  It's bad news.

The Milgram experiment
, with its chilling results, occurred in the early '60's.
Have things changed since the Milgram experiment?
Lest readers still think such events are flukes, current psychology research evidence also supports the idea that people are still basically about as obedient to authority as they were in the 1960's.
It’s inspired songs by Peter Gabriel (lyrics: “We do what we’re told/We do what we’re told/Told to do”) and Dar Williams (“When I knew it was wrong, I played it just like a game/I pressed the buzzer”);

You may wake up to,  Err?

 That's funny as hell

Not bad but Beth...a bit heavy on the fuzz there ain't it?

No real criticism but me thinks I like John Martyn's version a bit better....

quite nice!
Too nuanced and subtle for me. Just not sure what she wanna know 'bout.

Not John but very good.
Shocked it was Beth Orton,
Why not?
i think i get the point
Ok, Nice flow to the song...but I tell ya, ITS ALL EVIL....and we don't don't really know what LOVE is anyway...not living under the laws of man in the human condition. No no....
I like Beth Orton but I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy this album.
I'd like the 12th floor, please.

The album information says "featuring William Orbit from Japanese only album "Superpinkymandy". Someone has a sense of humor...

Love the original, had more conviction somehow, this is a bit smooth? Ok though 5
very smooth track. excellent

Nice textures. My elevator sounds great!

(And I like where it takes me.)
Elevator music. Doesn't even touch John Martyn's original.
It's not nice to relentlessly repeat yourself.

I've never heard this before - love at first listen - it's not even done yet! I hear Annie Lennox in here, but with more layers.
Never heard of this album. Love Beth!
This is a very nice cover but I think I like the John Martyn original better.

Orton is one of the most intriguing artists around today.

Thanks for playing, RP!
