I'm an Uncle Tupelo fan from way back but I'd completely forgotten about this one. I was listening to this and thinking "Those guys from the freecreditreport.com commercials do a pretty good Uncle Tupelo impersonation." But it's the real thing.
the comments about the set are SO right on. someone was either just IN THE GROOVE or REALLY worked on these song-to-song transitions with a lot of thought. nicely done, RP.
this song in particular is touching a chord. been listening to a lot of wilco and a lot of son volt lately, and it's so sweet to remember what their ingredients tasted like before they'd separated out, so to speak. :)
A great Tweedy sung song from Uncle T.'s first album. even if my wife is sick of this cut and "Whiskey Bottle". It really does sound like they recorded it out on their porch while rollin' a fatty.

I like the Uncle Tupleo Jeff almost as much as I like the Wilco Jeff.

It's called a Slice of Life song. Highlighting finding joy in small things. Belleville Illinois is a decidedly middle-class suburban city. I know I was there from ages 1-9 in the 60s/70s.
