Ho hum (and I'm being generous) version of a great song

Wow. A Depeche Mode song I can actually listen to from beginning to end. Not great, but better than much of their other music, IMHO.
pretty fruity version. I would imagine the kicks referred to here involve toe tappin in the mens room
Route 66 from space.

And the producer of Emergency! was Jack Webb, the former husband of Julie London circa the time of the album cover picture.

.ps...a nurse wearing lalse eye lashes to work -that always was good for a laugh

I like all the Depeche Mode that's been playing on RP recently
Oklahoma City looks oh-so-pretty?    I must never have been to the right part!

Julie London

Julie rocked in 70's "health care garb" as well!

Ooo - me too, me too!  (Can I wear my glow-in-the-dark earrings and my five-inch CFMP's?  'Course I won't be able to dance, but I'll look frellin' HOT.)

Sorry.  Caved in to the moment there.  I do like this song, however - a surprisingly good combination of elements, pulled together and seasoned with techno and hints of Jack Kerouac. Makes me wish I had an old four-door convertible land-yacht filled with five good friends, some music on the radio, and a loooong stretch of straight, two-lane highway in the middle of the desert, with no traffic and lots of junk-food.

Oh, geez - I think I just wrote the plot for "Fandango."

NEVER EVER THOUGHT THIS COULD BE "DM"

lovely interpretation!

love it!!!

"9"

interesting selection...you may not know it, but an NROL satellite launch happened this morning out of Lompoc, CA and the NROL number was 66!

Don't apologize.  Like the man said - There's no accounting for taste. (I think that applies here)

I'd never have guessed this for DM - sounds like Alien Sex Fiend. It's fun, though :o). 7 from the tickled Nottingham jury.
One of my favorite remixes of all time.  In retrospect, might this be considered one of the first mash-ups ever?
Probably! We are talking 20+yrs ago now

Certainly - there are lots of tunes that fit into both of those categories.

"Flag-stahf, Arizona...don't forget Wynona" I love it when the Brits unselfconsciously do American classics. Great song done by a great band.

I vote yes.

hmmm ... I usually champion cover versions that are done with a different twist on the originals ... but for some reason I am having trouble liking this one ... don't know why ... it just doesn't do it for me ...
Can a song be both creepy and catchy at the same time?
Wow! ... different and great! Cheahs! {#Cheers}

NEVER apologize for your musical likes and dislikes (I'm learning the hard way.) I like it, too - it's fun, and 180 degrees away from the original, which makes me like it for no other reason. Depeche Mode doesn't go under or over the bar - they just bend it a bit.

I don't usually like Depressed Modes other stuff but this is good...

Pah!
To the negativity!
Superb....then again as an 80's child headonist
am allowed to think so, no?
{#Ass}
I don't care what anyone says.  These guys have hung in there and keep pumping out great music since I was an insecure teenager (well over twenty years ago).
groovy
Well, that's different!

First time I ever heard both Bill & Rebecca on the air at the same time.
Happy Annivesary

DP,,not my kind of music,,but once in a while I can listen to this one,so next year again !?

I enjoy this comment. On par with Col. Sherman Potter's "Lower that a gopher's basement" hyperbole.

This is the part where everyone looks at me and suggests changing the channel to some crappy station... Please Bill... Pull Up! Pull Up!!!

Thought this was the B52s for a moment.  Route 66 a la New Wave?

Interesting but not sure that I really like it.

I almost hate to admit it, but,....It's ahead of its time. Is that Wolfman Jack shilling for the Selective Service?

This blows.  Truly.
And not often I say that about music.

This is a really awful, fey, spastic version of this great song. Pure 80s rubbish which belongs in a cut out bin.
I'm sure this will enrage my hippy friends (my apologies in advance - and, please, skip the link), but this song always reminds me of that awesome PS2 ad from a couple years ago.  My fellow video gamers will appreciate it.

I always thought this one was kinda dumb. Especially with little 'selective services' snippet in there. Was that supposed to make it edgy for the times or something?
Cover songs: the last bastion of artists who are out of new /creative ideas.  Why bother (1) covering this song, OR (2) recording it, OR (3) actually re-broadcasting it!?!?!  LAME

not a big depeche mode fan, but i always kinds liked this. maybe because, unlike most of their tunes, this one's a little fun. especially the snippets from "name that tune"  my eyes adored you! do that to me one more time!

what a bizarre cover! I can't imagine DM ever having made the trip to Kingman, AZ, personally
OOOooh nice {#Dancingbanana} The megamix of Behind the Wheel and Route 66 also rocks very hard... The limited 12" of which the Beatmasters remix of Route 66 is taken from has a rather "heavy" (not in metal sense) remix of Behind The Wheel remixed by Shep Pettibone on the A side. Highly recommended!

I bough a book recently that had over 800 pages. While reading it, I noticed that one of them was page 666. Obviously the book was possessed by Satan, so I immediately threw it into the incinerator. Please pray for me.
actually, one of the better / more unique versions of this song!
-which has been re-made by "thousands" since Nat King Cole original....

  Saw a thing on cable about that.  Apparently, many accidents have happened on that stretch of highway, which I think is called "the devil's highway" or something in Spanish.

LOVE IT!!!!

Thanks BillG!
I like DM, but have never heard this version. I like this much, much better!! {#Motor}
to my surprise, I like this version a lot.  Although, I can see where if I heard it too much, I might get tired of it.
well f*** me is right! flashback... a good one
Well, f*** me! I'd never have twigged this as Depeche Mode, and I'm a big DM fan. I've never heard this before, and it reminded me of Colour Box with all the sampling. Very likeable, though, and an interesting departure from DM's usual electro-pop-goth output. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Aak! It got my attention...but not in a good way.
Love me a crazy cross-genre cover!
Pretty cool....
Outstanding!

Very original arrangement - absolutely love it far more than the original
I think I actually like this better then the original, very nice work.
This is a very groovy version of a classic. Dig.
Nice!
Rather un-Depeche Modeish, yet good all the same. Pleasantly unexpected surprise. {#Mrgreen}
sah-weet!
Yeah!  Love this one!
